Eddie Howe Provides Fitness Update As Break Begins

Newcastle have departed to Dubai for a warm-weather training camp after the 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Friday. The international break has come at a good time with many Magpies struggling with injury concerns.

The latest casualty is Miguel Almiron who suffered a thigh injury in training. The Athletic is reporting that Almiron will be lost for six weeks with the injury. Newcastle will have to soldier on through a congested April without their leading goalscorer.

Eddie Howe spoke on the injury concerns plaguing his squad after yesterday’s victory. He revealed that Allan Saint-Maximin was withdrawn at halftime with a tight hamstring. He also touched on why he didn’t introduce Callum Wilson in the second half saying:

“Allan wasn’t quite right today, physically, I didn’t think. He’s been carrying a tight hamstring. I don’t think it’s a pull, it’s just a little bit of tightness. For me, it was obvious during that first half that he probably wouldn’t be able to carry on.

“I didn’t want to expose Callum today, he hasn’t done a lot of training, so I decided to go with Elliot and he repaid me, he did really well. Hopefully, we’ll have Callum and Maxi fit and available after the international break.

“Fabian’s been carrying lots of different things in the last few weeks. He’s been carrying a foot problem and also had concussion, so I think it’s just a chance for him to rest his body and go again.”

Fabian Schar took a nasty challenge in the opening minutes yesterday but was able to see out the match. The defender has been a warrior this season and pulled out of the Swiss squad to get some rest for a lingering foot problem.

For Wilson, he’s struggled with illness numerous times this season. Howe added that he is also carrying some muscle tightness so it makes sense he stuck with Alexander Isak to the end at the City Ground.

He is some more from Howe on Wilson:

“He [Wilson] had a small bout of illness and then just a little bit of tightness, general tightness, no injury.

“But with Callum, I think we have to be very careful with him and make sure he’s available for the rest of the season.

“Callum’s a top professional. And he is driven more than anybody that I’ve ever worked with, so he will see Alex performing as he has done tonight and he’ll be delighted for Alex and the team.

“But it’ll only make his resolve even stronger to fight for that place.”

Hopefully, for the massive match against Manchester United at St. James’ Park after the break Howe will only be without Emil Krafth and Almiron. Getting Anthony Gordon, Wilson, Saint-Maximin, and Schar fully fit for April could be key.

They could if they wanted and Mbappe would accept the wage structure. I would say they are frustrated if their hands were tied that they can’t get anyone in last Jan window.

i think there are no teams adrift at the bottom of the Premier league because the Premier league is strong this season which has contributed to some top teams under performing. even Arsenal and Man City aren’t winning every match like Liverpool and Man City did a few seasons ago.

I know it wasn’t aimed at me the thatcher post, but have you thought that it is possible to vote for one party, because they have the best policies at that time then vote for a different party because they now have the policies you agree with.

I would not have voted for thatcher in the 80s, i thought what she did was wrong and punished the working class.

But now I have voted for the Conservatives for a while now, and the main reason for that was Tony Blair, what he did In Iraq was terrible, 1 million innocent people killed, so the USA could take the oil., Blair went against both sides of the isle and sided with the US. Not good.

Then with Corbin, it wasn’t so much him, but the people like Diane Abbott he surrounded himself with, it seems like Labour now care more about skin color or sexual preferences than what is right for the masses.

Next time I’m not voting for Labour or Conservative, i will vote for a different party.

    Catchy

Can we take it that you’re sheltered from objective news reporting? It’s become apparent from recent leaks of emails and comments that the Beeb has been getting leant on to toe the Tory party line for years.

Might you wonder why Johnson appointed the Beeb’s chairman? Might it be that Sharp’s been a party donor for years, a party member and oh, fixer him up with a guarantor for an £800k loan.

Like it or not, Linaker’s embarrassed the Beeb and confirmed it’s lack of neutrality.

Don’t waste your vote – use it for any party that’ll help unseat or defeat the Tory.

Now that is enough from me.

    No, i don’t believe so.

I honestly believe that who ever is in power will try to get the state news broadcaster to lean their way.

I think since the inception of the BBC, it’s been there to be propaganda, tell people what they want to hear.

I have no doubt, Blair did it for the Iraq invasion.

I think the world needs honest reporters who tell it as it is, i like WikiLeaks, or the Edward Snowden is this world.

I want a fair and just world for us all.

I don’t like that out current PM has an investment company that put 700 million into shares of Moderna, then advised everyone to take a vaccine, he should be disqualified from holding office for doing so.

I’m not left or right, i like to think of myself as an independent, but at this time i lean mor to the right on policies.

In old Rome, the “proletarii” were people who own very few things.

    In latin, “proles” mean offspring.

Those people weren’t submitted to military service, so from a military point of view, their only duty was to be “producer of offspring”.

So according to the roman, it refer to people whom the only wealth was their own children.

The word “proletariat” refer, according to Karl Marx, to people who own no stock or means of production and generaly no lands or house.

Nowaday, the definition is more complex.

According to modern sociology, the “working class” could refer to people who are only employees, but, with low wages and no assets of their own.

But it’s a little bit more complicated and would be long to explain…

In fact, most french don’t retire at 64 but far later.

Cause, if you want a reasonable retirement pension, you must justify of 43 years of work.

So as most people now begin to work after college, so somewhere around 22, they generaly go to 65 or more.

But, we still have people who start working early, and for them, this is really unfair, cause they generaly have tough work, and if they can’t retire before 64, it meant they will have to work more than 43 years…

Hence the anger in our beloved France.

Talking of doing things the French way, I very much enjoyed ‘Call my Agent’ and found the British version a bit drab. I wonder if the humour in a recent UK TV success translates over, the original (not the USA) BBC version of ‘Ghosts’ is a family favourite. Plus, one of the characters is a burning women

Catchy for the record. There was a vote in the commons to decide if we went to war in Iraq in 2003.
Just about all, 88%, of the Conservative MPs voted in favour of the war.
More Labour MPs voted against the war than Tories. If the Tories voted against the government, the motion would have been lost.
Therefore if you vote Conservative because of our involvement in the Iraq war, I think you need to think again.

On the subject of liking clubs or liking the way they play, I have to agree with TDS.
While I despise the sneaky, slimy six clubs who were prepared to join in the startup of the ESL, there are times when I’ve sat watching Man.City (especially last season) and Arsenal, at times this season, with admiration at the quality of their football.
I’m very hopeful now that it won’t be long before we are playing that style of the beautiful game. There have certainly been moments this season when we have.

    Morning lads and lasses,

Sidestepping the political chat, I reckon we’re in for a decent squad overhaul in the summer. While I’d love to see star power added to the first team, I’m just as keen to bid a fond farewell to the likes of Dummett, Ritchie, Manquillo, Lewis etc. While they have been solid servants of the club, are now very far from the quality we need around the first team if we’re to truly raise standards at the club.

Add to that the many players still in contract at the club on loan, it appears we’ve a big job on our hands again in the summer to lighten the wage bill before we go on any significant spend on improving the first team.

That being said, I think we make a number of signings in the summer, mainly an attacking LB, a young rightsided centre half, an out-and-out DM, a 10, and a RW. Possibly even a CF too. This sounds more of a wishlist than genuine targets, but I think we won’t be far away come start of next season with those targets.

Agree, there will be a lot of work but I trust the owners to make it happen and we have a solid foundationen to build on. When the season starts I think we will have a quality squad of 25 +3 or 4 under 21s like Anderson. If we Get CL or EL we need a big squad.
