Magpie Withdraws From International Duty With Minor Injury

Newcastle are the walking wounded as they begin their training camp in Dubai. After the win at Nottingham Forest, Eddie Howe detailed the injuries afflicting his squad. Those struggling at the moment are Fabian Schar, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, and Allan Saint-Maximin.

The quartet could be available when Manchester United come to St. James’ Park to kick off a congested April. Newcastle will have navigate next month without leading goalscorer Miguel Almiron, who is out for six weeks with a thigh injury.

There is now news that another prominent member of the squad has picked up an injury. The Athletic is reporting that Nick Pope has dropped out of the England squad with an injury suffered prior to Friday’s win. Former Magpie and local lad Fraser Foster has been called up by Gareth Southgate to replace Pope.

Pope reportedly missed training last week with the undisclosed injury but managed to start and play the entirety of the 2-1 win at Forest. The 30-year-old’s withdrawal appears to be precautionary and he should be available to face the Red Devils in two weeks.

Repost, I wouldn’t be surprised that these injuries to our international players are a set up so Eddie has as many of them in Dubai planning ahead for the final games of the season 😉

Our boys who are not on international duty will go to Dubal on cloud 9 and wind in their sails. Eddie will get them really focused for the final lap of the season. It is critical that they really get focused on the last remaining games. We have manure up next (must win) and we will be well and truly prepared and up for this battle straight after the international break. I can see a huge win to really get us prepared and up for the remaining games left of the season.

If we get a good win against manure I can see us finishing above them and spuds as we will have the momentum and also I can see us beating spuds @ SJP. I think a top 4 finish is our destiny and in our hands, it’s why I believe with the dressing room togetherness and harmony will get us over the line. Then the summer transfer window will be like no other IMO, it will be enough to have a squad depth to have us battling on 4 fronts. Great times are ahead of us that I’m convinced about. 🙂

My Forest buddy thought Felipe was their best player. I thought he was poor enough.

    Any thoughts?

It would be class if the whole squad just said they’re injured, however I think the game time for Sweden will do Isak the world of good, I hope Eddie H is in their managers ear telling him to keep an eye on his minutes though.

    Munster,
My valuations were based on £10M for Bakker, £20M for Salisu, £65M for Diaby, £30M for Pedro, £30M for Gallagher and around £40M for Maddison. I think I must have left one out in my maths.

Really good cup tie between Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers here. Two sides who play good football, create decent chances, press with intensity etc.

Been keeping an eye on Sander Berge in midfield for Sheffield United who we had a look at in the summer, very pacy and powerful runner on the ball, pops up in dangerous pockets of space as well.

Also, good to see former Toon striker Jon Dahl Tomasson doing a good job there.

Catchy – you’re way off base. Firstly, Lineker didn’t say that our government is behaving like the German government in the 30s, he said they were using language like they used in 1930s Germany which is demonstrably true!

Secondly, Lineker was very critical of Qatar for the World Cup, it was his opening statement! I see no more reason for Lineker to be criticised for doing his job in Qatar than any of us should be criticised for supporting a club owned by the Saudis. I can be critical of the Saudi’s human rights record while also supporting the club that I love.

No way are any of our players feigning injury for a competitive international match. That would be grossly unprofessional and I don’t believe for a minute that Howe would condone that kind of behaviour. There’s a process they have to follow these days and I’m sure they’ll follow it.

I think it’s insulting to suggest that Eddie and any players would lie to deceive their international managers and their fans.

Been an absolute cracker, Doyle’s strike there for what looks like the winner was lovely, think keeper needs to do better. Think JDT got the tactics wrong in sitting back at 2-1, invited Sheffield United onto them, and they’ve been punished. Think they were playing the better football in this second half and deservedly went 2-1 up. Proper cup tie this. Well done both.

Taco, yesterday you were talking about Anderson. I saw him live at the Atlanta friendly start of the season. He played in the middle as we had friendlies two days on the bounce. He started a bit tentatively for first 10 mins (nerves in front of a sell-out crowd first t8me) but after that he really got into it. He is clearly good technically/tactically but I really like his confidence (after those first 10 mins) and thought he will do very well for us this season. Clearly he has had some niggly, stupid injuries which has made his season stop-start so far but now Eddie has him fit. As long as Eddie can ensure he is mentally sound, he will be a valuable asset to this team for years – similar to a James Milner who someone else mentioned.

The poster who posted #24 insults all of the toon supporters who post on and read this fine blog when he is disgracefully championing the fat slug/leech (who sadly once owned our amazing club), LiVARfool, Manure, Spuds…

Championing all the above mentioned on an NUFC Blog is highly insulting. The Wally needs to get off his high horse and stop talking a load of bollix constantly.

Hmm, so Adamn (who claimed he was ignoring his FPL team) made 16pts worth of transfers before playing me.

Sorry Adam – I played my wildcard!!

    😉

You could still win if Martinelli (who I note you captained) can get you 25 pts more than Ben White gets me.

    🙂

Nick Pope trains all week and plays on Friday and is suddenly injured before supposedly going on intl duty so it’s understandable why some would put 2+2 together. He’s England’s 3rd choice keeper, so honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if an internal discussion was had within the club that Pope would be better suited withdrawing from the squad and join the lads in Dubai. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pope himself suggested he would much rather be with the lads than sitting on the bench on international duty. Personally I don’t care, nor would I see it as unprofessional either. Selfishly, our run in is more important than a qualification game he won’t even play in.

I do think Pope will have a genuine injury but one that could be played through. As Ruddy points out though, why ‘play’ through it in training forEngland and sitting on the bench, when he can do better recovery with his team mates and get ready for the run-in. Similar with Schar as well.

Yeah Ace when I have seen him he looks good technically and will grow in confidence as he gains experience.

I think one issue is some people place huge expectations on our youngsters and are then shocked when they don’t immediately meet those expectations. Same thing with Kuol from some of our fans.

It is not just young players either. It seems to me some people judge players only based upon rolling 5 minute intervals. One minute someone is a world beater, then if they make a mistake they “will never cut the mustard at NUFC”

Ruddy – they need to prove they’re injured now. So they’d literally need to fake an injury report for someone in the England medical team to approve. Or Howe/Pope literally asked Southgate to release him and that was approved. They can’t just say he’s injured without proof and he’s released.

Didn’t Fraser miss a Scottish call up though because he was allegedly injured, but it turned out he just wanted to be involved in first team training to try and establish himself in the team.
