Magpie Withdraws From International Duty With Minor Injury

Newcastle are the walking wounded as they begin their training camp in Dubai. After the win at Nottingham Forest, Eddie Howe detailed the injuries afflicting his squad. Those struggling at the moment are Fabian Schar, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, and Allan Saint-Maximin.

The quartet could be available when Manchester United come to St. James’ Park to kick off a congested April. Newcastle will have navigate next month without leading goalscorer Miguel Almiron, who is out for six weeks with a thigh injury.

There is now news that another prominent member of the squad has picked up an injury. The Athletic is reporting that Nick Pope has dropped out of the England squad with an injury suffered prior to Friday’s win. Former Magpie and local lad Fraser Foster has been called up by Gareth Southgate to replace Pope.

Pope reportedly missed training last week with the undisclosed injury but managed to start and play the entirety of the 2-1 win at Forest. The 30-year-old’s withdrawal appears to be precautionary and he should be available to face the Red Devils in two weeks.

I don’t think my list was over ambitious or the players rubbish either.

Your list was realistic Raj with the possible exception of one or two of the price tags. Not sure about the £300M upfront from Saudia either but might be possible I suppose.

There was an article this morning saying Diaby was £65M that what I based it on. I honestly think Maddison will be £40M as well unless Man City want him.

U missed the point i was getting at.

Whether he said acting or using language, both are equally as bad, because it detracts from the message he was trying to convey. You will never win any argument by saying lies. The language used in Germany in the 30s lead to the 2nd world war, and if you think what they are saying is the equivalent, then you need help.

The players on your list were great….the prices you specified that we would pay were perhaps a tad naive… 😉

Osimhen currently plays for one of the most exciting teams in European football, and will be subject to mega money bids from clubs with more FFP wriggle room than we will have.

Gvardiol has also been attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in world football and will likely also be outside our price range. I don’t see having an honest assessment of our chances of signing either as pessimism. Botman signed for £30m, Gvardiol will likely cost twice that. Isak signed for £67m, Osimhen will likely leave Napoli for considerably more than that too.

I’d personally rather we get someone under the radar and unearth them as an lesser known gem rather than compete with other CL clubs in a bidding war.

My worry about Maddison comes more from Man U rather than City. I thought I saw he supports them? They need him more than City.

Ace@79 – Exactly and both Osihmen and Gvardiol are at clubs that were in the CL this season and will be next.

Technically the only regular CL player we have signed so far is Trippier. We are not yet at the level to attract players who expect CL footy over more established clubs.

    TTT,

I know Gvardiol is a left sided centre back, you can have 2 you know it is not against the law.

We might play 2 up front.

Isak has proven he can also play across a front 3!

GL can work for who ever he wants to work for, but please don’t take me for a fool, he made himself feel good with the speech, he could have said I’m not here for the money, i will give all the money i make from this to some charity, I’m here to highlight the atrocities that this country is committing, and compared Qatar to 1930s Germany.

Any single person that says one thing then does the opposite is a 2 faced liar.

    You have to see that.

Actions always speak louder than words.

I reckon we’ll sign a good right sided up-and-coming centre half to challenge and eventually replace Schär though he’s been performing at an incredibly high level this season and will likely be still good enough to be first choice next season. A priority for me is an attacking LB, a technical, press-resistent No 6 with a good range of passing, a 10 and a RW.

“Why do you think that about Maddison, Jane? The ‘big fish’ comment?”

midtable championship side at Norwich and midtable premier league at Leicester. Leicester currently 1 point and 1 place above the relegation places isn’t a good indicator. seems to me to be a bit of a luxury player scoring eye catching goals where as at Newcastle it would be about teamwork, hardwork and even pace which he is apparently lacking in. happy to be proved wrong though. England have not been interested.

Thanks Jane. I share some of those reservations re Maddison. His through ball for yesterday’s goal though is something we have been lacking. So, we need a ‘Maddison+’

Similar to Ruddy, whilst the big names would be nice to sign, I am as excited to see what youngsters we bring in to build for the future.

There are no guarantees that spending mega bucks on the likes of Osimhen would work, how many big name players have failed in the PL, too many to mention.
I don`t think you need to buy huge names all of the time to succeed, mix and match kinda thing really.
There are plenty more Botman`s and Bruno`s kicking about all over the world we could go for without having to spend earth shattering amounts of money for their services.

My view is the only two players that have played for NUFC in my lifetime that were truly World Class were Shearer and Keegan. I could perhaps make a case for Gazza too. Beardsley not far off from that level either.

Bruno, Botman and Isak will hopefully make that level but they are not there yet.
