Magpie Withdraws From International Duty With Minor Injury

Newcastle are the walking wounded as they begin their training camp in Dubai. After the win at Nottingham Forest, Eddie Howe detailed the injuries afflicting his squad. Those struggling at the moment are Fabian Schar, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, and Allan Saint-Maximin.

The quartet could be available when Manchester United come to St. James’ Park to kick off a congested April. Newcastle will have navigate next month without leading goalscorer Miguel Almiron, who is out for six weeks with a thigh injury.

There is now news that another prominent member of the squad has picked up an injury. The Athletic is reporting that Nick Pope has dropped out of the England squad with an injury suffered prior to Friday’s win. Former Magpie and local lad Fraser Foster has been called up by Gareth Southgate to replace Pope.

Pope reportedly missed training last week with the undisclosed injury but managed to start and play the entirety of the 2-1 win at Forest. The 30-year-old’s withdrawal appears to be precautionary and he should be available to face the Red Devils in two weeks.

So if Joselu or Riviere supported Newcastle United growing up we’d have a different view of how rubbish they were for the club? Ok, good to know.

Ace50 – hehe. I’ve no problem with a discussion about players being world class or not. Not for me but each to their own. I do object to someone who tells others that they don’t know what they’re talking about and know nothing about football just because they don’t agree that a player is world class…

    🙂

    Ruddy,
If that comment was in response to mine then here is my answer…

No, it does make a difference really in terms of how I evaluate a footballer. But I do like that Mitro supports NUFC alongside his home club.

    The more fans the better.

Selling both Mitro and Toney were the right decisions at the time. I’d happily have Toney in the squad now but he needed time away from us to develop. Mitro is a nutter though. He’s passionate and he can score goals but he’s a ticking time bomb too. I wouldn’t have him in the squad this season.

Watching that clip of Trippier it looks like the ref was threatening to give their keeper a second yello for being a dick.

    Seemed appropriate.

Nah not to you TTT, moreso to Catchys comment about Mitro being a Geordie. He was a fan: great. He was also rubbish for us. I’d much rather have had Michael Carrick, or Dimitar Berbatov playing for us than Mitro if we’re picking players based on whether they supported us or not 😆

Manure are there for the taking. They were there for the taking in the final.
We will beat them this time.
Well it ain’t a cup final is it?

Ruddy, Berbatov and Modric back in those days 100%

In fact when people suggest players coming to the end of their career that NUFC should sign. I would go with Modric every time. Very special player. Truly world class.

    Munster
Ireland would have won15 v 15 but the sending off is a joke.
Steward stopped and was static when the winger ran into him. A joke decision. It’s a contact game and the refs are killing it

I suspect that a lot of players lose their allegiance to their childhood club once they start playing for a different club. For example if you grow up as a Villa fan but end up on the books of Southampton age 12, in West Ham’s youth team age 16 and maybe your debut for Blackburn age 19, I think your allegiances will be a little muddled by then.

    Pug,
Apologies but I am still interested in this list of world class players NUFC has/had that Flurzinho and others refuse to debate…

Keegan is a given (hence I named him) he won the Ballon D’or twice and a significant number of other trophies…

Shearer is less clear cut. But world record signing at the time and 3rd in Ballon D’or behind Sammer and Ronaldo in 96. Record PL scorer too.

At least it keeps us off politics eh?

Ref in the Fulham game gets 3 decisons right yet allows 4 or 5 mancs surroundd him, finger jabbing and gooby trying to pressurise his decision making. They’ve been fined at least twice this season for such antics, I’d presume the FA will do so again ?

That apart how bad was the ref in our game to not send off two Forest players for leg breaker tackles and then succumb to the expectation of reversing a decision on the sat so off incompetent and biased VAR officials. Lee Mason lost his job in similar circumstances. Friday’s official must be fearing the same.

If we are naming players I would still choose:

Chiesa (I would push the the boat out to sign him)

Isaksen (relatively cheap and highly experienced given his age)

Chiesa might be damaged permanently. He came off today after 10 mins. He cant seem to stay fit since his acl. Only lasts under 20 mins before another niggling injury. Since his come back an injury every other game even though he comes on as a sub only
