Newcastle are plotting a summer swoop for long-term target Scott McTominay according to an exclusive from Luke Edwards in The Telegraph.
Edwards has revealed that Eddie Howe, sporting director Dan Ashworth, and head of recruitment Steve Nickson all believe the 26-year-old would be a perfect fit in Howe’s midfield.
McTominay has been scouted extensively over the past 12 months. Newcastle reportedly were rebuffed in their attempts to add the defensive midfielder in each of the last two windows.
However, the trio is banking on Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag being more amenable to a sale this summer. While McTominay has made 32 appearances this season, he has found starts very difficult to come by.
Ten Hag could sanction a sale to increase his summer budget. The midfielder would command a decent fee as he will have two years plus a club option left on his contract. McTominay is reportedly open to moving to St. James’ Park.
Edwards also confirms that Leicester City’s James Maddison remains a wanted man at Newcastle. However, he is reporting that the England international may want to join a club already established as a Premier League title contender.

Comment #81From their own disciplinary guide it says the starting point for Mitro would be 112 days before mitigating circumstances were taken into account. Not sure there are any.
“Threatening behaviour: 101.1 suspension from all football activity for a period of between 56 days and 182 days. The recommended entry point, prior to considering any mitigating or aggravating factors, is 112 days. 101.2 a fine of up to £100, with a mandatory minimum fine of £50. 101.3 an order that the Participant completes an education programme before the time-based suspension is served.
Physical contact or attempted physical contact: 101.4 suspension from all football activities for a period of between 112 days and 2 years. The recommended entry point, prior to considering any mitigating or aggravating factors is 182 days. 101.5 a fine of up to £150, with a mandatory minimum fine of £75. 101.6 an order that the Participant completes an education programme before the time-based suspension is served or within 28 days of the Disciplinary Commission’s decision, whichever is the later.”

I think there was people at the club feeding the ITK’s with odd bits of information which fuelled LOTS of other wannabees, they’re running a very tight ship now and the ITK’s have seemed to have stopped bothering. I for one am glad, I don’t like hearing any news that isn’t 100% genuine, I could and still can’t understand why people enjoyed listening to fabricated stories, you can read the Daily Star for that.

Comment #87Sure I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again anyway. No to McTominay. He’d be a Steve Bruce type signing. Standing still rather than progressing. I’d pick Longstaff, Big Joe or Willock over him every time, and I don’t think Bruno will be sweat on his place on this link?

Comment #91That Mackem season ticket ‘advert’ is like it was an amateur entry in a competition.
And we all know, if you want to win a competition with integrity, then just send £10 to Wor B – usual address 😉

Comment #92Mctominey is a smoke screen and a journo wind up. He’s like to end up at Everton or Leeds, somewhere in that part of the Midlands.
Maddison wants to be part of a club going places, challenging the establishment and will have seen the decisions of Trippier, Targett Pope , Botman and Bruno to join NUFC as the future

Haha yes, I shoulda looked first, we’ve got more than a bit of wriggle room on the home-grown player front!
At the beginning of the season, only Bournemouth had more home-grown players, with 18 to our 15. 🙂

Comment #105If Ten hag’s relaxed about letting McTominy go but wants a hefty fee for him, then the way to approach that one is to offer something like a £100k for the lad.

Comment #106One’d expect Conte to be sacked and it’s no surprise. I said when his name was bandied about for us, that he’d be a bad fit as he’s high maintenence and blames everyone but himself for failure.
But, Sperz’ll not sack him without a successor in place….. now who could that be? How’s about Tim Sherwood for a few months?
Just a thought.

Comment #113It’s a shame Conte will be sacked, if things are as bad as being made out under him then it might rejuvenate them. However, like him or loathe him, Conte is a serial winner, as was Mourinho, something tells me that their problems run deeper than the choice of manager they keep hiring.

Comment #115For the people saying that McTominay isn’t good enough for us, i think they need to give their heads a shake. Hes a solid midfielder who Howe would probably improve, he’d fit the bill for us 100% in physicality, ability, mobility & importantly the budget.
I cant believe some would rather we went for foreign players over home-grown experience, a huge risk that usually ends in tears.
Its a yes from me.
