Sven Botman has been forced to withdraw from The Netherlands’ squad as a virus has impacted their camp. The 23-year-old is one of five Dutchmen forced to withdraw per the following official announcement on Twitter.
? ???? ??????? ????? ???????? ????.
? Sven Botman, Cody Gakpo, Matthijs de Ligt, Joey Veerman & Bart Verbruggen left our training camp this morning. They are suffering from a virus infection. Get well soon, boys. ?

This could be a big blow for Sven, who had received the surprise call-up ahead of Euro 2024 qualifiers against France and Gibraltar. There is still hope Botman can make his debut as he is currently only ruled out for Friday’s match at France.
The squad will be reviewed after that match with some chance the withdrawn players will be available for the match against Gibraltar on Monday. Though it is looking somewhat tenuous at the moment. The illness should not affect Botman’s availability for Newcastle’s match against Manchester United after the break.
Botman has been a sensational addition at St. James’ Park since joining from Lille over the summer. It didn’t take long for him to cement himself into Eddie Howe’s backline. While he missed out on the World Cup late last year, he has now moved ever closing to getting his first cap.

Comment #9In my opinion if Rice comes in and Bruno moves to Longstaffs position that actually improves our midfield significantly. What we should be looking for is an anchor in midfield to give Bruno a box to box. Doesn’t have to be Rice though. Could be kante alvarez kone

Bruno is a box to box in his current role anyway. He’s constantly getting in and around the box when we attack. It’s just that his defensive work is brilliant too. He’s technically our defensive midfielder but I think the midfield we currently use, it’s in name only. When we defend, all 3 of our midfield press and cover the ground. It’s just Bruno is the best reader of the game so pops up in those essential defensive areas to get the ball back.
When we attack, all 3 midfielders push up and get around the penalty area. How many times have we seen Bruno on the edge of the box linking with Miggy and Trippier?
We don’t lose any of Bruno’s box to box abilities with him playing in his current role in my opinion.

Comment #13So it looks like Botman has got the “C” bug . Hopefully he did not catch it from anybody at the Toon.
Latest advice here I think is to isolate for 5 days. So hopefully he is OK at the end of that time period and will be available for our next games.

What bollox.
The VAR adjuciator saw the incident as did world wide TV and he decided ‘nothing to report here, move along please’
Get a grip folks, the Gazette is better than this level of cheap reporting.
The incident wasn’t ‘missed’ it was ‘irrelevant’

Comment #15Morning all. Magic from previous bus, 3 potential starters and 3 to develop or as back up is how I see it too. I can see everyone on expiring contracts being thanked and let go. I can see the argument for a massive clear out in the Summer, especially if we get CL. But it’s difficult to reconcile that with the club’s stated aim of evolution, not revolution.
After that it becomes tricky. A starting left back and a right winger is a definite need while strengthening the midfield would be nice especially if it means Bruno operating further forward.
Of course everything depends on where we finish and the cash available, as I said yesterday. It’s going to be a fun ride. 🙂

Comment #17Loch, that article is Chronicle level terrible. Not a clear and obvious error, VAR worked as designed. Nothing to see here. https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-star-escapes-four-match-ban-after-independent-review-into-incident-var-missed-4074630 if you think it’s worth the click.
Off to pick up SWMBO, back soon.

Comment #18That is shocking reporting about Pope. So they deemed it should have been given as a foul but VAR worked correctly? That doesn’t make sense.
They can say that it could have been given as a foul, that VAR wouldn’t have overturned it if had been given, that it would have been given 8/9 times out of 10, and that we got a little lucky there though. All of those I’d agree with. But borderline decisions happen in every game, the only time you can say that a decision should have been given differently is either where it‘s a clear and obvious error or VAR intervened when it’s NOT a clear and obvious error (like Anderson’s goal).

Comment #19Talk about old news. That report is from a week old Mail article that even then said it “understands” blah blah with no actual quotes from said panel.

Comment #20With regards to Pope, It wouldn’t have been a 4 match ban either. It’s a 3 match ban for violent conduct with an additional 1 match if it a players second offence. It wasn’t violent conduct, therefore a 1 match ban. He nay have received an additional 1 match ban for his second sending off but I doubt it.
It is debatable whether it was red card as Pope didn’t deliberately foul him.

Comment #21Pope did not foul Jimenez, var checked, saw that he jumped into Pope to try and win a pen.
Then pundits tried to make something of it, after the event…now, ‘cos there’s no real football…this pap!

Good day Sir, it`s good to see at least one blogger agrees with my prognosis when it comes to how many players we will likely sign in the next transfer window, the problem with signing beyond 4 players in one window is successfully integrating them into the team and squad without disrupting the whole team spirit and comradery which is one of our strongest and main strengths at the moment mate, it`s certainly the way i see it AGM.
