Newcastle In Advanced Negotiations To Fill Head Of Emerging Talent Position

Fabrizio Romano is exclusively reporting that Newcastle are in advanced talks to poach David Harrison from Manchester United to become the new Head of Emerging Talent. He is currently Head of Youth Recruitment at Old Trafford.

Harrison has been at Manchester United in his youth recruitment role since 2017. He previously was with cross-town rivals Manchester City since 2009. Before that he was Leeds’ chief scout.

Newcastle have made adding youth talent a priority. They added Paul Midgley from Manchester City late last year. Midgley made his name adding some of the outstanding talent at Leeds before moving to the Etihad.

Interestingly there are two David Harrisons at Manchester United. They appointed one David Harrison in February as Director of Football Operations. He had previously spent 28 years at Everton.

Your only Blog fwend, Fenham, appears to be missing and one must wonder whether your aggressive, boorish and boring posts have succeeded where all else has failed.

You might have done us all a favour – could you do us one more?

    Bonjour Niafron

Good to see you posting, I hope you are staying safe amidst the chaos in France right now? I must admit that I will be in the south of France over the Easter break (near Toulon) but it does seem as if the protests will roll on for a while.

On happier times, you must be delighted with the result against the Netherlands, mind you, the Irish will give you much tougher test on Monday…haha

Happy Birthday JohnJ, enjoy your lunch with your fellow bloggers mate.

I watched the Sweden game last night only because Isak got a start and although he looked sharp he wasn`t given much of an opportunity to hit the onion bag. Bearing in mind Isak still can`t be fully match fit i think he did ok.
The biggest cheer from the Swedish fans was when Zlatan came on for Wor Alex.

Seems as if it’s a quiet day today, so I’ll go on a wee ramble in case anyone fancies a chat. It’s great to see the club slowly but surely put the infrastructure in place that will see us become an elite institution for spotting, nurturing and developing emerging talent.

Not only will that enable us to give exciting young players a route to the first team thus helping us develop our squad in a cost-effective way, but it will also be a source of revenue in that we’ll be able to sell on youngsters who can’t crack into the first team which will give us more FFP wiggle room in the market.

Chelsea and Man City have been doing this excellently for years, and the likes of Benfica and Borussia Dortmund on the continent have impressive global infrastructures that spot unearthed gems whom they sell on for a tidy profit.

With respect to the two English teams I’ve mentioned, I do hope that we have much more success in carving routes to the first-team for the young players we bring through than they have. Chelsea only brought through the likes of Mount, Tomori, Reece James and Tammy Abraham because of their transfer embargo a few years back.

I do think that as far as the first team is concerned, Ashworth and the current scouting set up will have a big job in restructuring our squad to be able to compete on all fronts, and I hope they manage to pull it off. However, they may not pull it off and we could end up with a first team that is a bit too thin to compete across the various competitions we’re in next season, who knows?

However, what’s heartening is that this journey we’re currently on isn’t dependent on a few players sticking around nor does it revolve entirely around the views and values of a single manager like it did back in KKs or SBRs days wherein once they’d left the club, the wheels came off. No, this journey is a root-and-branch restructuring of the club that will firmly ensconce us at the top of English football for years to come. That’s what is the most exciting part of all of this for me.

Sorry for the ramble folks! 😆

There’s protest in many cities downtown, but you know, for most places and most of the time, it’s just as usual except for the strikes wich affect the public transports, the schools, etc… also it’s difficult to find gasoline at the moment.

So honnestly, except if you decide to go in a protest, you ll risk absolutely nothing, but your trip could disrupted by the strikes ( starting with those concerning airlines, airport and railways…).

Steve Clarke was brought in by Ruud Gullit as his assistant and stayed on as Caretake Manager, for one game, after Gullit resigned.

Unfortunately his one game in charge was against Manchester United which we lost 5-1.

Toon1892 is a great site for statistics covering everything related to NUFC; it’s run by Kenneth Scott and there are some really good NUFC books, which are written by him, available too!

The Under 18’s just beaten 7-2 at home to Sunderland, The Under 21’s languishing at the bottom of the table.
No wonder the PIF are busy recruiting all these high profile youth recruitment experts from Man. City, Man. Utd, Chelsea and Southampton as well as junior talent spotters across the whole world in selected areas.
We should get rid of all the dross in both age limits and start again.
Which promising starlet is going to want to come here and play with these miserable outfits? These new appointments are going to have to work hard to sell the dream to these top rated youngsters and bring in as many as possible.
They will form the lifeblood of the club in later years and alleviate the need to spend vast fortunes each window on quantities of ready made stars.
All this recruitment will also be outside the Financial Fair Play Rules too I’d imagine.

Ace50 – I said Burn has been ok at left back and I think that’s fair. There have been lots on here calling for Targett to replace Burn and more calling for replacement left back to be signed this summer.

People have been going on about signing a player based on form and then calling for 30 year old defender to be called up for his first cap at centre back when he’s played left back all season. Makes no sense to me.

Thanks for the insight mate. I’m going to visit my partner’s family who all live just outside Toulon so we’ll have access to a vehicle during our time there so it should be fine. Stay safe bud.

Thank you all for appreciating my ramblings haha seems all the more relevant when looking at the recent hammering our lads received at the hands of our local rivals. Rome wasn’t built in a day though. Man City were taken over in 2008 yet Foden didn’t break through until a few seasons ago. It’ll be a long process that we need to be patient with.

I must admit to being one who while anticipating the need for remedial work following years of Ashley neglect, but hadn’t anticipated the amount required to bring the club’s infrastructure up to some level of functionality.

One can only hope that our new owners’ pre-purchase due-diligence had identified what was needed and they’ve had no major surprises. I think the way they appear to be tackling the remedial work in a methodical and professional manner, suggests that they’ve not been deterred by what they’ve found and are in it for the long haul.

I’d suggest that the fact that they’re investing in long term projects speaks volumes but we mustn’t expect instant success. Patience is a must.

Just got home from the Whitley Bay blog meetup. Lovely to meet everyone. All truly wonderful people.

When my Wife asked where I was going today and I said “I’m am off to meet a few people from the internet” she thought I was insane. It probably didn’t help that when she asked “so what are these people called?” I replied “Peter the Pug, Jessica Rabbit, Martoon and his better half, JohnJ and Raj/Jail”

As I said though, all really nice people. It was a pleasure to have met you all.

Hopefully will see many of you at the D&P next month.

Ruddy, those that assume instant success are in all probability in for a shock. It is almost as if they forget all our false dawns and have the memory span of a goldfish.

The owners are clear that this is a project and will take time. They mean it. They know it won’t be easy. We should all know it won’t be easy. But we are chipping away at it and we will get there.
