Newcastle continue to be linked with pending free agent Marcus Thuram. A recent report claimed The Magpies were in pole position to sign the versatile Frenchman, who could make a decision on his next destination soon.
Thuram is not the only pending free agent Newcastle are tracking if a new report from The Mail is to be believed. Former England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also on the radar with his contract at Liverpool set to expire at the end of June.
While Newcastle did add Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood during the new regime’s first transfer window, their recent window have generally players with youth on their side targeted. Nick Pope is an exception but 30 is still young for a goalkeeper.
As Oxlade-Chamberlain approaches that transformational age, he has struggled to have much of an impact in recent seasons. Injuries have limited his availability with a hamstring problem delaying his start to this campaign until October.
This term the attacker has just 12 appearances with Liverpool making no attempt to keep him on board. There will be some interest in a player of his stature, experience, and versatility. It seems a strange link for Newcastle which may not have much in it.

I don’t suppose you could grab a spare ticket for the Soton game when they go on sale on Thursday, there’s plenty of people after a spare, John J needs one and if bloggers don’t take it, sparky55’s cousin is after one or two.

Comment #127Joselu was a steal for us, unfortunately though, the squad, as ever under Ashley, was just too thin. Just not enough depth, balance and quality, to achieve anything but survival……. until it didnt. It’s a big part of why Rafa was so revered. Everyone knew it. And why some of the players from that era have kicked on under the new ownership. There was always quality

Comment #128We’ll find out soon enough Munster, that game on Sunday is massive, if we lose that and Spurs beat Everton I think we can kiss it goodbye, however, should we win and I really think we’re favourites this time round, then I don’t think we can be stopped

Comment #129…….just not enough of it. Joselu was one of those players, and he’d be handy to have had in the squad now.

It’s easy to say that in hindsight and I was anything but a critic, like Chris Wood his confidence was shot here despite him playing his part. He was done here unfortunately and probably couldn’t wait to get away.

We’re 29/20 and they’re 9/5 so I think that makes us the bookies favourites.

Comment #141I think Sundays result will not define our season, if we don’t get a result from Man U it will be a setback but these are still plenty of points to play for and Spurs will drop points too along the way. Hope we thrash man U all the same though.

Maybe not but I think it would be a huge psychological blow if we lost to them again and narrows down that spot to about four teams chasing just one spot

Comment #145Jail, it isn’t hindsight. It was painfully obvious at the time. I used to defend Joselu on here, at least to some degree, just as I defended Joel, when he had that thankless task of leading the line for a side that defended so deep, and in so many numbers, leaving its sole attacker to most often toil away without a hint of support. Grim stuff. The only relief we got from it all, the fans and our center forward, was briefly with the 3 amigos, when we were really well drilled on the counter, and had the players to execute it. Thank God those days are over. Basically an attackers knackers yard, for much of Ashley’s tenure.

Comment #147It astounds me that so many pundits are amazed by the improved form of Joelinton, Longstaff, Schar, Miggy etc. Its not rocket science. Its just a natural result of a better deeper squad, and better preparation, allowing good players to show their true worth.

Joselu was showing nothing in the end to say we should have kept him, he was punching himself in the head at missed chances, the poir guy was having a nightmare. The only time it crossed anyone’s mind that we should have kept him was when Joelinton proved so ineffective as a striker and he could have took the pressure off him.

Comment #149I’m not saying we should have kept him Jail. I’m just saying he’d be a different player in our current set up, and very handy to have. I’m just using Joselu to make the point that we criminally underutilized the talent we had, because of Ashley’s short blanket policy. I’m very happy for Joselu’s current success, considering what he went through when he was with us.

Comment #151Remains to be seen if that will do anything for their confidence.
Clearly a holding operation until they can persuade Bruce or Harry Rednapp to take over next season.
Don’t think Kane will hang around now, the club is toxic
Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini will step up as head coach for the rest of the season, with former midfielder Ryan Mason his deputy

Comment #157Jail I am convinced we will beat Man U. And I think we will get 4th. But we have nasty away games coming up…West Ham etc. I think we will do it. I’ve even got bets on with some of my u13 players who are Man U fans. I’ve said I will give them a few quid each if Man U beat us. But if we beat them, I won’t take their money. They hate my confidence 🙂
