Newcastle jetted off to Dubai straight after the 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest. After a somewhat low-key week, The Magpies flew back on Friday. With the weekend over, the countdown to Sunday’s pivotal match against Manchester United begins.
The two clubs are vying for a Champions League place with Newcastle in fifth just three points behind the third-placed Red Devils. Sandwiched in between are Spurs who announced last night that Antonio Conte has left the club by mutual consent.
Tottenham have decided to keep the change as streamlined as possible. Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini will serve as interim manager for the remainder of the campaign aided by Ryan Mason as assistant head coach.
Here is a look at the league table for the final stretch of the campaign.
Club | Matches | Goal Diff. | Points | |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Man City | 38 | 61 | 89 |
2 | Arsenal | 38 | 45 | 84 |
3 | Man United | 38 | 15 | 75 |
4 | Newcastle | 38 | 35 | 71 |
5 | Liverpool | 38 | 28 | 67 |
6 | Brighton | 38 | 19 | 62 |
7 | Aston Villa | 38 | 5 | 61 |
8 | Tottenham | 38 | 7 | 60 |
9 | Brentford | 38 | 12 | 59 |
10 | Fulham | 38 | 2 | 52 |
Newcastle are in decent shape with a superior goal difference to everyone surrounding them. Only Arsenal and Man City top Newcaslte’s goal difference of 20. The Toon also have two matches in hand on Tottenham.
Newcastle hold their destiny in their hands and will eclipse Spurs by winning one of their matches in hand. Though Liverpool are a club to watch as they have shot up the table in recent weeks and are now in 6th.
April is a congested month with 7 fixtures. It begins on Sunday with Man United coming to St. James’ Park. A win and Newcastle will jump them in the table and return to the top four.

Comment #41With regards Kane, I think its a similar situation to those whom used to judge Shearer after a couple of significant injuries? Fans of other clubs used to say he was finished after Dr Steadman had fixed him, and every season he just kept proving them wrong. I think this is how most people perceive Kane too, as he’s knocking on 30, and had a couple of big injuries. I fully expect him to keep proving his doubters wrong too?

Fun fact, ‘años’ means “years” while ‘anos’ means “anus”, so I assume you mean ‘anos predator’
Yes folks, I speak a little French and Spanish, citizen of the world me 😉
On topic, it’s obvious anyone saying Kane is sh*te is a troll. I saw it this morning and didn’t engage for that reason. If I had, that wouldn’t have automatically made Raj and I Alts of each other.

Comment #43Apparently, if Barcelona can’t reduce their wage bill by July 1st then his contract extension is null and void and he can leave on a free

Comment #45Forgot to say, listened to the Athletic pod today(from last week) with Chris Waugh and Caulkin, he seems to think a few are coming in, mentioned that Neca Williams from Bilboa at LB, so that tells me that Lewis is definitely toast and BDB is getting early Europe and cup games next season.

Comment #46@Davas, think I’d seen they’d agreed to let a few 36 to 38 year olds go and La Liga were happy with that? May have just been paper talk mind?

How are we doing marra? Good to see you still lurking and posting. I agree, a little compilation album of all those win photos in the dressing room would be lush!
You planning on making it to the D&P next month when Magicmac54 and I are back over?

Comment #48G – except Kane’s performances haven’t dipped at all. Shearer had a couple of very serious injuries and had to change his style of play a lot to stay competitive at the top level. His stats and performances dropped off for sure. It was his experience and incredible will power that kept him at the top for so long.

Comment #49Davas – they’ll sort it out for sure. They’re getting extra investment too. Can’t believe for a minute that they’ll let one of the best young prospects in the world go on a free transfer, it just doesn’t seem realistic. Barcelona, their lawyers, and La Liga just won’t let it happen. They’ll find a way to keep him there.

Yeah, I guess that’s all they need to do but it’s nice to speculate 🙂

Comment #52Great to see safe standing finally getting the go ahead in SJP. Along with Supporters Direct and the FSF, the Trust have been big proponents of safe standing and had campaigned on this issue for as far back as I can remember. I hope it’s a roaring success and is extended across the ground. I’m sure it’ll add to what already is a cracking Matchday atmosphere at SJP.

Comment #53Unfortunately safe standing doesn’t equate to more attendance like a few people have assumed.

Comment #54Looks like we’re missing Almiron and Gordon on Saturday but nobody else apart from Krafth hopefully. Anyone seen any indications that Gordon might be fit? Wonder if Howe will go with Murphy and ASM again or change it up now Joelinton is available again.

Comment #55Shearer was stronger than Kane (physically), when his legs failed him he was able to become more of a poacher/target man because he could out muscle a lot of defenders. Although, I used to love it when he’d drift wide and would transform into the best crosser in our team.
We’d only really know if Kane had that ability to adapt if he got a series of similar injuries which I hope doesn’t happen. I like Kane as a player, just wish he played for us / shite against us.

Comment #56By rights Barca should be getting relegated to the fourth division if this ref scandal is proven.

They should be but won’t apparently La Liga have said the statute of limitations is 3 years, so they won’t be done for this at all.

Safe standing, if used to its full potential, could theoretically equate to greater attendance. Some estimates suggest that proper safe standing could result in 1.8 supporters in a standing area for every 1 seat. However, the way in which this has been licensed in the UK has been on a 1:1 ratio.
This is progress in the sense that standing in UK football stadiums would have been seen as impossible even 10-15 years ago. My hope is that once proven as a safe concept, the premise will be allowed to be expanded to its full potential.

Comment #60Wouldn’t want to be standing on Level 7 mind? Was up there for a cup game? If crowd surged forward for a goal / scoring opportunity I would be screaming like a child if I was at the front!

Comment #61Good news about safe standing however the club should have been a bit more ambitious with the amount of spaces available. Something like 3k would almost guarantee a raucos atmosphere at every home game akin to away games.
I’m not having a go, no doubt it will be extended in the future.
Some fans will not want to be in a safe standing area therefore there has to be a level of transition.
