Winger Ready To Return Against The Red Devils – Report

Eddie Howe will have Anthony Gordon available for Sunday’s match against Manchester United according to Luke Edwards with The Telegraph. The winger will make his return after being sidelined for the previous two fixtures with an ankle injury.

Gordon made his full Newcastle debut in the defeat at Manchester City. During that match, he injured his ankle forcing him to miss the two recent 2-1 wins. He’ll now come back into the fold on Sunday.

The 22-year-old’s return is timely with Miguel Almiron out of action for most of April, a month of seven fixtures for The Magpies. Eddie Howe started Jacob Murphy on the right for the two victories.

It’s likely Murphy retains his place against the Red Devils, though Gordon is an option on both flanks. Left wing is an area of intrigue this week after Elliot Anderson’s star turn at the City Ground.

Allan Saint-Maximin was withdrawn at halftime against Forest paving the way for Anderson’s outstanding display. Saint-Maximin has likely recovered from his minor muscle issue with the possibility he keeps his place this weekend.

The jury is out on the availability of Sven Botman. The defender was forced to withdraw from the Dutch camp with an illness. Edwards believes it’s touch and go for Sven against Man United. It apparently was a case of food poisoning that delayed his debut for the Netherlands.

Hopefully true as he would add another attacking option to EH and his plans. Although I feel Murphy hasn’t let us down with his recent performances and will start on Sunday.

When do Southampton tickets go on sale? I’ll need as much notice as possible so I can have a free hour or two from work meetings to try to get a ticket.

Niafron – I see the next rounds in the Euro’s are not until mid June.
A long bloody time to keep teams in limbo/without knowledge of who may/will progress.

Is this player a winger? I mean he’s played all kinds of positions:

    https://www.footballcritic.com/anthony-gordon/player-positions/226756

I’d say, he’s versatile, can play any attacking position bar CF.

Think he’ll feature next Sunday, on in the second half, at 60′. Will replace whoever isn’t doing his thing.

Joel back in, ASM left, Murphy right, Isak in the middle. Wilson? He’ll feature too.

Man u won’t know what hit them.

    Mister Tuff,
I’m starting to feel a bit sorry for you, you’ve always been a bit, shall we say eccentric but your behaviour of late is just getting a bit sad, on a serious note, I think you should go and see someone as there clearly something not right with you.

Did someone say earlier Gakpo was sent away with the virus as well yet he’s lining up on the bench, I hope there’s nothing wrong with him, he’d be a big miss at the weekend.

Spurs don’t have a new manager just an upgraded coach in a holding position until next season when they poach a big name as they perceive it.

Hardly likely to inspire their players and with Kane wanting out confidence is still going to be poor

    cyprus,
I don’t think Gordon will start, I’d say he keeps the same team that started Forest with Joelinton coming in for ASM, Lascelles or Targett for Botman if he’s out

To be fair, EA deserves the start and make it Jo’s place to win back, not sure if that’ll happen.

I agree. I’m expecting a lot more from Gordon, we’ll need him in the run in. He hasn’t peak performed yet.

We’ll need everyone to turn up, but I think they will.

Trippi stating outright that they’re going for it is good. They’ve set the bar high so there’s no doubt they will be giving it a right go.

I hope lady luck has bought an nufc ticket for the rest of the season.

    She’ll be entertained.

Caught up. So topics of today…

    Safe Standing –
It is good that the club trial this, many fans prefer to stand. If it is successful it will be expanded. As others have said though it does nothing to change change capacity as it is a 1:1 ratio vs if it was seated. That could change to 1.8:1 if proven successful across the PL however personally I am not sure clubs will go that far as it is a trade off and they will consider other events stadiums can and do host combined with how much more toy can charge for a seat vs standing. To me 1:1 ratio is likely to be around a while

    On season defining games,
Unless a team gets absolutely humiliated a single gam is rarely season defining. Fans think they are after a season has ended and then argue about which game cost us whatever the club didn’t achieve. Not getting a result out of a Man U will not define our season. Let’s humiliate them anyway though.

    On Spurs,
Last night I said candidates may wait until summer and assess their options rather than go to Spurs now. That is exactly what SSN are now saying about Nagelsmann and Poch. This should benefit us. Sure, the current incumbants might do a decent job and people point to how Contes assistant did in his absence but the question I would have is “do you believe Conte wasn’t constantly on the phone telling him what to do?” If you do it is contrary to what they said at the time. I stand by my belief that the lack of certainty at Spurs is beneficial to us, both right now and possibly next season. After all which manager comes in Summer if they don’t finish top 4?

Oh and good to have Gordon available, I suspect Botman will be available too..it all seems to have come down to a chicken curry rather than a serious illness – in fact it was me that first posted the chicken curry story on here.

On Spurs, I’ll be shocked if they bring in the manager they should never have fired. I think their director is too proud to admit he seriously fxxxxd up.

    https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1749320/Tottenham-Fabio-Paratici-Daniel-Levy-Mauricio-Pochettino

Anyway, the onus is on us, excuse the pun. We need to find 66 points total somewhere.

Doable? Yes. But, I can see many teams in the bottom half taking points off the top half teams. It’s a scrap down there and none of them seems resigned to take the fall.

    Expect fireworks. Best season ever?

Are they? Maybe. I admit I like their manager. Always humble and a hard worker.

I just know there are nine good teams (9!!) fighting it out down thete. Pretty crazy.

And then, like five fighting for top four.

    Good stuff.

    Raj,
Could be. If you consider the options why would 5 players leave, 3 come back and 2 not?

1 .Some recovered quicker than others (from whatever made them ill)
    2. They had different illnesses at the same time.
    3. 2 player had their own reasons for choosing not to return.

Might be just me but 1 or 3 seems most likely.

Im shocked how fast that Ogbene lad who plays gor ireland is, he seems to be able to skin Hernandez for pace the chances he’s had and Hernandez himself is quite fast.

He must be the second fastest player on the pitch after Mbappe.

I’d guess we will see revert back to having Willock / Joelinton rotate between centre mid and left wing with both fit / available / in form, Murphy has earned his place, especially with Miggy unavailable for another 4-5 weeks, good to have Gordon back though to have an extra attacking option who also provides us with the energy and tenacity Howe wants from his players.

Another point, having continued to lurk, it would appear that we’ve had some peace and harmony on the blog lately with the absence of certain folks, which is nice to see, long may it continue.
