Eddie Howe will have Anthony Gordon available for Sunday’s match against Manchester United according to Luke Edwards with The Telegraph. The winger will make his return after being sidelined for the previous two fixtures with an ankle injury.
Gordon made his full Newcastle debut in the defeat at Manchester City. During that match, he injured his ankle forcing him to miss the two recent 2-1 wins. He’ll now come back into the fold on Sunday.
The 22-year-old’s return is timely with Miguel Almiron out of action for most of April, a month of seven fixtures for The Magpies. Eddie Howe started Jacob Murphy on the right for the two victories.
It’s likely Murphy retains his place against the Red Devils, though Gordon is an option on both flanks. Left wing is an area of intrigue this week after Elliot Anderson’s star turn at the City Ground.
Allan Saint-Maximin was withdrawn at halftime against Forest paving the way for Anderson’s outstanding display. Saint-Maximin has likely recovered from his minor muscle issue with the possibility he keeps his place this weekend.
The jury is out on the availability of Sven Botman. The defender was forced to withdraw from the Dutch camp with an illness. Edwards believes it’s touch and go for Sven against Man United. It apparently was a case of food poisoning that delayed his debut for the Netherlands.

Comment #42…. also, was ASM just hooked at halftime against forest or is he crocked? I’m sure I read something about a minor hamstring strain, any updates?

Comment #43Really worrying having these 3 games in 6 days. We don’t have the personnel to make big changes so hope we don’t pick up more injuries.
The Man Utd game is huuuuuuuuge!!!!!! What a statement it would make to beat them. Everyone will be worried about playing us. Hopefully our blip is over and we continue our winning run.
Id like to see a front line of – Isak, Joelinton and Gordon. With a midfield of Willock, Bruno and longstaff.
Wilso, ASM, Murphy and Anderson as good options from the bench.

Comment #44Davyan, Howe said ASM had a ‘tight’ hamstring and so they took him off to protect him. Could be totally true. Or, saw that ASM wasn’t doing great and thought they would get more from EA and that ‘line’ saves ASM’s blushes. Either way, I would be very surprised if ASM was with us at the end of the summer transfer window.

Comment #45Ace50, I second that, I can’t see ASM here by the end of the summer window, and I for one wouldn’t be sad to see him leave, the club and the teams footballing mentality has went beyond what he’s capable of.

Comment #46Agree. Amazing player on his day, but those days are far too infrequent and he doesn’t contribute to the overall team performance (defensively as well as attacking) for where we are right now, or where we are going. He would go with our support for him intact.

Comment #48I still fail to comprehend the anti-Maxi crowd.
– Is he perfect? – no
– Is he a good option? – IMO yes.
– Can he be a game changer and give opponents something to think about? – yes
– If he is as crap as some people seem to suggest will we get much cold hard cash for him? – no
Given our lack of squad depth surely it is logical to keep Maxi unless he either wants to go or we get an offer NUFC cannot refuse.
There are a dozen players that should be moved on before Maxi imo.
First things first.

Comment #49Another unglorious french victory, was very poor and Ireland deserved better for they were brave and also for their great finish.
Well at least, we have confirmation Maignan is one of the best keepers in the world.
What a save he made at the end of the game…

Comment #50So so proud of the Irish lads tonight against for me the best international team in world football, we were by far the best team in the second half and only two absolutely world class saves by the french keeper prevented our lads from getting a deserved draw.

He played for Lille and now for Milan. He was expected to replace Lloris since years and many people here think he should have played the world cup.
Unfortunatly, he was injured, but Deschamps would have probably keep Lloris nonetheless.
Anyway, don’t see us signing him, for it would cost 50+ millions i think…

Comment #54TTT – not anti-Maxi but there’s 2 main reasons I think he will be gone:
1 – I do not think he will be a first team player if he stays, and I don’t think Maxi the type who wants to be a squad player
2 – whilst he is definitely enigmatic and wondrous, it’s too sporadic and does not offer the consistent performance (in all aspects) that EH will want.

Comment #55Meant to add a sneaky 3rd – ASM is one of a few saleable assets that we would likely sell. We could do with the £ to support moving to next step.
Could be totally wrong, but that’s my opinion.

I just don’t see why there is a sudden rush to ditch Maxi, and it is relatively sudden.
Same with Wilson.
Exactly how many players we can replace? Why not buy a whole new squad in the summer?
Alternative opinions are available.

Comment #64I’m not even slightly anti-Maxi. The reason I think he’ll go in the summer is because I think he needs to be the main man. I think he needs to feel the love. I suspect he’ll be sold but I’ll be happy if he stays and continues to fight for his place.

Comment #67To be fair all people made good points about Maxi, but we don’t know what EH thinks about Maxi.
If Maxi want to be a first team starter where is that? – Is that better than here and not necessarily starting anyway?
Sure, we would get some cash for him if EH wanted him gone or he wanted to go.
I just think Maxi is not as terrible as he has been made out to be recently and the club have a ton of work to do to improve the squad irrespective of he goes or not.
How much does a replacement for Maxi cost on top of everything else?
I just feel that adding to the list of players that require replacing in a squad (where different options are needed) is a mistake.
Ace,
I admit I cannot quote someone who said Maxi was “crap” but I don’t have time to scroll all the matchday posts.

Comment #68Taco – I agree. If you just think about football and ignore the money Maxi could fetch + that he might want to move to be a first choice, there are many players ahead of him in the queue to leave the club.
I will never understand why fans call for a player to leave the club. The more players to contribute the better!

Comment #69Also good points Taco. It will be an interesting run in to see how ASM is used, especially if all of Willock, Gordon, Murphy, Anderson, and Miggy are fit (after April). That will give an indication.
By all accounts, he seems a genuinely nice guy off the pitch. I hope I have it wrong and he is fine being a non-starter mostly. Let’s see.

.,………………….Pope,
.Trippier…..Schar…..Botman…..Burn, …………………….Bruno,

Very strong starting 11, with plenty of good attacking options off the bench. Predicting a 3-1 home win, in a big big game for us.

Jupiter, Venus, the Moon, and Mars should all be easily visible, however Mercury will be more of a challenge for the naked eye.
For those hoping for a glimpse of Uranus, stay up late, you never know, the Jedi might re-appear.
