Newcastle loan duo Lucas De Bolle and Dylan Stephenson have collected silverware with Hamilton. The Accies downed Raith Rovers 1-0 to win the Scottish Challenge Cup. De Bolle played the entire match while Stephenson was an unused substitute.
Regan Tumulty scored the match’s only goal with a strike in the 30th minute. Hamilton had to see out the final 35 minutes after defender Dan O’Reilly picked up a straight red 10 minutes into the second half.
De Bolle recovered from a scary spell early in the campaign where he suffered lingering concussion symptoms. The midfielder has 16 appearances with a goal and an assist during his time at New Douglas Park.
Stephenson joined his Magpies teammate in January. The forward has 8 appearances while also contributing 1 goal and 1 assist. Like De Bolle, he has been utilized in numerous positions by Accies boss John Rankin.
Joe White joined Exeter in January. The midfielder has been a steady presence making 11 appearances for The Grecians. While not an automatic starter, White has featured in every match except one since his arrival.
Goalkeeper Dan Langley swapped Gateshead for Spennymoor Town in January. The local lad had started 12 straight for The Moors before an injury in mid-March has seen him miss the last three matches.
There is also news today that Newcastle will introduce safe standing for 1,800 supporters for the 2023/24 campaign. Further details can be found on the link below.
#NUFC can announce that safe standing will be introduced at St. James' Park as part of an initial trial period at the start of the 2023/24 season.
A designated licensed standing section with space for approximately 1,800 supporters will be installed in the South East corner.

Aye, the way it’s being licensed in the UK is one standing spot per seat, which is likely done to assuage the concerns that some groups, namely the Hillsborough family group, that issues of overcrowding won’t be a concern with these new regulations. After all, all-seater football arenas were introduced as a result of safety concerns regarding terraced arenas.
So the 1:1 ratio I hope will confirm that it can be done safely, before being expanded in future.

Think you hit the nail on the head in that this is likely a “proof of concept” approach to safe standing whereby the club wish to trial safe standing before determining how best to expand it if successful. You’re right that the rather low numbers is to minimise disruption for any fans who wish to move and not be in the safe standing area.
Personally, I think if it were to be expanded, I’d like to see a big chunk of the Gallowgate become a safe standing section. It’d be bouncing every game, and would be a formidable wall of noise akin to Borussia Dortmund’s ‘Yellow Wall’

Comment #15Sounds like La Liga are making up the rules as they go along to protect one of their “top” clubs.
If true, 3 years being statute of limitations on flagrant cheating by bribing refs. Is simply ridiculous.
So if we ignore FFP, but use delaying tactics (a la City) we could get away with anything we like and claim Barca’s case as precedent?? – I don’t think so. Whole thing stinks.

Comment #16The concerns of over crowding is relevant but if everyone has a designated standing area, which was not the case with terracing, it should be safe.
The noise from the South East corner quickly dissipates and does not project to the rest of the ground.
The Hillsborough’s group protestations used to get on my nerves. They regularly raised their voices against safe standing at grounds but the fans in the Anfield Kop constantly stand during games. I doubt they pushed their concerns with their own club.

Comment #24On the barcelona / gavi link … Barca need to reduce wage bill but more importantly could potentially docked points when they are found guilty of corruption as per below.
Barcelona face charges of corruption over payments the club made to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira – a former vice-president of Spain’s referees’ committee.
It emerged last month that Barca paid Negreira and a company he owns a reported total of 8.4m euros (£7.4m) between 2001 and 2018.

I’m down to five because I can’t link accounts with my mate because he’s in a strong relationship with his brother and kids. But he can get two adults, just means if he gets a decent number they won’t be next to my batch(if I get a decent number as well)

Comment #32Interesting that the odds for a win are slightly in our favour when you consider in our last five head to head we have 2 draws and 3 losses.
It’s only 3 points out of a remaining 36 but it feels super important.

Yeah why not haha You had some of them there before though, when you had your STs..?
I would have prioritised the Corner, but with queue number 7000+ I was always gonna be scrabbling round in the dust.
I should have a ticket for the Arsenal at home. The mussus’ Auntie is away cruising that week so I’ve thrown my hat in.
But keep me in mind if ever spare tix come up, I am at 30 second readiness at all times. 🙂

Comment #40Its certainly an acid test of our capability as a team? Manyoo have been on form lately, a lot of which I would say has been down to Casiamero. Be interesting to see how they get on against us without him? Got a feeling we’re giving them nothing from this one.
