Below is the team Eddie Howe has named for this evening’s pivotal match against Arsenal at St. James’ Park. This lineup features one change from the 3-1 win against Southampton last weekend with Alexander Isak in for Anthony Gordon.

Eddie Howe has started with the dynamic duo of Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak. Presumably, the system won’t change with Isak playing on the left. The bench gets a boost with the return of Allan Saint-Maximin though Sean Longstaff remains unavailable.
Here is who Mikel Arteta has selected for the Gunners.

Newcastle have another chance of enhancing their claim for Champions League football next season. It is shaping up to be a tight race for the final two coveted spots in the top four.
This match also holds implications in the title race. Arsenal may have to take all three points for any lingering hope of their first Premier League title in two decades. This is one massive match in May at St. James’ Park.

Comment #11Very difficult game. We struggle against teams who are play good football. We are lucky most teams in the league are not that’s why are sitting 3rd as we win them with gritty full blooded display instead of intricate football.
Villa, Brighton are example why we struggle against teams who play football in a certain way.
Arsenal are a great footballing side. We will absolutely struggle today especially against martinelli and saka.
Newcastle 1 arsenal 3.

Comment #13Be very interesting to see how it plays out with starting both Wilson and Isak from the get go. Hope it works as well as bringing one off the bench.
Shame Longstaff wasn’t fit enough as think he’d have been a huge bonus. Still confident we can get a result regardless though!

It’s a logical move especially with Longstaff out.
Maxi, Miggy and Anderson on the bench, not too shabby at all.

Comment #20So Sean wasn`t fit enough to even make the bench today, although it looks like we are really going for it today with both Isak and Wilson in from the start, this could be a very attacking high scoring match today HWTL.

Anyone want to start the prediction game in advance of tomorrow…
I predict that Ilovetoon8788 will turn up before kick off stating that Arsenal are much better than us and we are certain to lose and ultimately won’t finish in the top 4 as a result. I reckon he will go 3-1 or 4-0 to Arsenal.
The more interesting prediction is what time will he sod off? I am going with around the 80 minute mark. I will say 83 minutes into the game.

Comment #29I’ve been right far too often.
We don’t do well against teams who play football and not try to get physical and grind.
Arsenal will easily out pass our press. And our defence have been leaky recently. Especially over the top balls. Odegaard will have a field day especially saka and martinelli whose movement is elite.
Can’t see anything other than a loss today unfortunately.

I’d say a lot was learned, analysed and analysed again after the Villa defeat and no Longstaff. They’ll have prepared all week for it and Joelinton will fill the role perfectly. I also think that they’ve played them together from the off to exploit the weakness in Arsenal defence, if we get off to a good start the crowd will be immense.

Comment #33I think this Arsenal team are going to lose their heads if we are a few goals up, are dominating, and time is runnning out.
It would be like Arsenal to end their title hunt with a red card.
