This is the team Eddie Howe has named for tonight’s important game against 6th-placed Brighton at St. James’ Park.
It looks like an unchanged side following last time out at Leeds United, as we had expected.
And here is the team that manager Roberto de Zerbi has selected for Brighton.
Not sure why Alexis Mac Allister is on the bench – maybe slight injury?
Newcastle can make a big leap forward towards Champions League qualification with a win tonight, but we will have to be at our best to beat a Brighton side that took apart Arsenal away 3-0 last weekend and were much the better side.
We have to get two wins in our final 3 games to ensure Champions League football for next season.
The remaining games after tonight’s match are against struggling Leicester City at home next Monday night and then Chelsea away on the final day of the season – a week on Sunday, May 28th.
So even without the win tonight, we can still win our final two games – let’s stay positive.
Only slightly more than 60% of fans think we will win this game tonight, which is a little bit of a surprise.

Howay The Bonnie Lads!

Comment #9Brighton resting 4, Mac Allister and Enciso 2 of those dropped, I can’t think that’s a good decision tbh, that plays into our hands big time imo

Comment #10I don’t rate Gilmore and Gross is a makeshift RB, so there are areas of weakness we can attack. But Mitoma is going to be a handful for Tripps. This match is massive.

Comment #15Yeah mitoma a handful. Brighton thinking we are a bit tired and wanted quality off bench for later in game…hopefully just means we wrap it up by then!

Comment #16Brighton have a weird team out although it does allow them to bring on players later in the game if we get tired
Surprised we have gone for the same team but hoping lessons were learned from Leeds when we switched to a 4231 and looked much better with Isak as the no 10 which is where we got our first penalty

What concerns me regarding Klopps ban is the weak level of punishment for essentially calling the honesty of the game into question. That is effectively why Toney now has a ban of 8 month – A different offence and quantity of offenses I admit. But the punishment for Klopp is still too weak IMO. I don’t say this because I think NUFC would gain some advantage but someone like Klopp cannot keep getting off so mildly. He called into question they very integrity of a referee. FA far to soft IMO.

Comment #22Would love to see Isak tuck in behind Wilson a bit today. He is getting crowded when he is out wide (against Arsenal and Leeds). Teams now recognize his threat very clearly. Would also love to see him recreate those Joelinton runs when he was picked out by Schar, etc.

Comment #25That Brighton team is still a quality side who will dominate possession and game today. We will see very little of the ball. Our leaky defence will continue to leak with mitoma against trippier.
Bruno and Joe have been off the pace for this run in, and we will struggle as expected.
Too much Brighton quality from the bench.
Newcastle 0 Brighton 2.

Comment #27DKillers – 100% on those runs, so many times I thought if we had a natural finisher there we’d have had a hatful, they haven’t happened with isak there…yet!

Comment #29Interesting, most people didnt want to see Isak and Wilson again, but say nothing when the team is announced?
I’ll stick with 2-2 and pray I am wrong
Eddie will get them revved up and the crowd will be up for it ( I hope as big as the Arsenal game? ie smaller club , not a man u visiting etc ) but we need patience too
This is the most press resistant team, along with City, in English football
Lets hope the fans keep calm, when they need to be calm
Now go and fkin rip into them lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ignore ilovetoon – he is hardly ever right and he certainly does not support NUFC. He always predicts we will lose and he is chuffed when he is correct. Says it all.
He is wrong in general and statistically.

Comment #34This Isak /Wilson conundrum’s got me thinking about when we had Ba and Cisse.. Papis was in outrageous goalscoring form as I recall, and we stuck him out wide to accommodate Ba. It basically knacked Cisse’s goalscoring.
I hope this situation we have now doesn’t wreck wor Isak.

We seriously need to win here.

The other way around, I believe. Ba, after a great 1st half of the season was moved to the side to accomodate Cisse, who to be fair, did his job great
