Newcastle Overcome Brighton For A Fabulous 4-1 Win And 69 points

Newcastle put in a great display tonight at St. James Park and moved a giant step towards Champions League qualification with an excellent 4-1 win over high-flying Brighton.

Brighton weren’t the team that mauled Arsenal 3-0 over the weekend, but this Newcastle team were determined tonight and the urge to win this game was there for all to see.

First half goals from Deniz Undav (own goal – 22 mins) and a towering header from Dan Burn 4 minutes into first half stoppage time saw the home side 2-0 up at the half.

But then Undav scored after 51 minutes – this time for Brighton – to make it a nervy 2-1.

That was before Callum Wilson after 89 minutes scored his 18th goal of the season having been set up by Almiron and then Callum set up Bruno Guimaraes within a couple of minutes to make the score a good 4-1 for Newcastle United.

The win brings our goal difference to +35 which is currently 7 better than Liverpool and 25 better than Manchester United.

A win against Leicester City on Monday night will assure Newcastle a first Champions League place since Sir Bobby Robson was manager back in the 2003-2004 season.

The crowd was a very good 52,122 and boy there will be some celebrating before many fans arrive home tonight.

Here’s how the league table stands after today’s game.

Definitely dropping in the FPL points league though…was 50/50 between Isak and Wilson and definitely picked the wrong one! Made a big difference this week.

IrishRob – this is why I think you’re a tw*t. You’re just horribly selfish. You are happy with coming onto a blog and ruining the blog match time experience and you don’t care because you had fun? You’re a selfish tw*t is what you are.

I’m all for people finding themselves and finding their way to be happy in their own skin but that doesn’t give you the right to be selfish and take joy from other people.

    We need one more win
Liverpool will score loads against Hammers and Soton.
I thought we would win fine against Brighton.
The Leicester game is the tricky one. We should win but fatigue and njuries and expecting a win could leave the team under par. And Leicester will be desperate.I would take 1 nil now.
A draw and we need to win at Chelsea. And Eddie will do that
