Tbh, I turned of the match when it was 2-1. Too much stress for me. Checked the blog here and there. Turned the tv back on with a few minutes to go. Wow! What a finish. I already said we would win our last three and still stand by that. Manure and Liverpool should be worried. We’re ok. One of them won’t make it.

I’m sure this point has already been made:

Sky’s colour commentator last night was dreadfully biased against Newcastle. Hardly anything he said was in praise of the lads. He accused Wilson of looking for the penalty. He said one of our strikers should have aimed for the goalkeeper’s near post. Hellfire, he’s a former professional.

It must have stuck in his craw, when Wilson was not given offside near the end!

Bruno in the ref’s face when he was booked complaining it was his first foul. it doesn’t matter if it’s your first foul. it never changes the ref’s mind anyway.

Talking of that trip on Wilson, well it most definitely looked like a trip from where I was sitting and had a good view and I was convinced it would be given by VAR. for it to be chalked off as not a penalty, does anyone know why it wasn’t given at all? As the VAR decision was made very quickly as a non penalty.

Taco – I second what you said earlier. What I said was not specifically aimed at DKillers at all! To be honest, I can’t remember who said all of the negative stuff as I tried to scroll past it but it was just overwhelming with the negativity and also the responses to the negativity.

The only 2 I remember for sure were IrishRob who persisted throughout and very soon after the final whistle was continuing his theme by posting about Willock being injured and Harley who was worried we would bottle it but certainly had the good grace to admit he was being a negative ninny after the game was over. Respect to Harley for that. Not so much the people who are unapologetic for ruining the match experience on this blog for many others.

The referee in yesterdays game was terrible. He wasn’t given anything our way whatsoever and at one point the whole stadium let him know and sang in unison to let him know too. Funny after that, the decision making was a wee bit fairer. The 12th man let him know and he knew 😉

Fenham – to be fair, the penalty shout for a foul on Wilson wasn’t 100% clear on any of the replays I saw. He obviously went over the outstretched leg but no angle I saw showed definite contact. So the VAR couldn’t categorically say that Wilson was tripped rather than hurdled the leg.

I think it was one of those that if the on-field ref had given it then VAR also couldn’t prove that there definitely wasn’t contact and Wilson had just hurdled the leg.

That’s why I said at the time that if you want to blame anyone for not giving that as a pen, blame the on-field ref. I think VAR did its job from what I saw. Of course if there’s another angle I didn’t see…that’s a different story.

    Jane,

I don’t think that Bruno challenge warranted a yellow considering some of the other challenges that went unpunished imo. Bit pointless whingeing to to ref when he’s already brandished the yellow mind 😆

    TDS,

I was thinking was it something else as to why it was not awarded like an offside or foul as the linesman had flagged. But like I said I had a very clear view and it was 100% a trip. If there was nothing wrong with anything else in the build up I cannot for the life of me understand why it wasn’t. Not just me but everyone around me were celebrating as we all thought the ref would be advised to check the monitor again and give it. Never mind we still won didn’t we 😉

He lacked a bit of consistency the ref did I reckon. It was a good job our tactics, effort and gameplay won out and refs decisions now become somewhat moot.

    Jane,

It didn’t look like a dive from my angle, he was caught by the players boot and he tripped. The check was over quickly and I was gobsmacked it was t given. I liked you much better as Amber 😉

    Bill,

I’m glad someone else saw it that way re the clear trip on Wilson. By the way the referee was very suspect by so much of his decision making. I was left scratching my head on so many of the decisions. It really got to the point where the whole stadium let him know exactly what we thought of him.

    DKillers,

Don’t have an issue with your in match observations pal, while they were coming across as pretty negative considering the stage of the game I thought they did have some merit, albeit not enough for me to comment on.

I can understand IrishRob’s mindset in general, think the worst and everything is a bonus. I use that mindset for stuff now and again in the real world, however I’m not sure it should be applied here this season. It annoys me, but I sought of get where he’s coming from.

    As for Ilovetoon,
If he’s a Toon fan he really needs to look at his terminology as he comes across as anything but. Maybe wor Tuff can help him in this regard utilising Peppa pig books or whatever he witters on about!

Ref was fine…he tried to minimise stoppages and let play continue after a foul if we still had possesion, and the wilson dive was exactly that.

Bruno’s yellow was deserved…he is a bit dirty on the quiet and buys free kicks all over the park…but aint that why we love him!

Its the modern game. Like it or not.

Yeah no more doubting from me this season! Even with no midfield we’re gonna rip through Leicester.

I actually have a feeling Villa will get something at Anfield, making Monday a 90 minute party!!

The pressure is completely on Liverpool now.

Evening all, another epic catch up slowed down by a rare (for me) hangover. Totally worth it though. Some thoughts.

The game was proof of Eddie’s tactical nous and the team delivered. I thought the crowd was magnificent and can understand the quieter moments. This is due the fact you cannot shout and cheer none stop for the whole match. That’s why so many woke up this morning with no voice.

As for the match day comments, the point has been well made already. The comments in real time reflect what happens in every house, pub and even at the ground. In my experience at least.

To coin a phrase, I’m still buzzing and seriously considering the hair of the dog.

    Pun not intended! 😆

it looked like Wilson saw the leg out and as the ball was rolling away from goal he made unnatural effort to make contact / try and make contact and then flung his arms out theoratrically in a headlong dive. it’s much easier to see things clearly on TV replays than only once in real time from a seat in the stands.

Wilson did the standard striker dive thing by leaving his leg in. He didnt really complain cos he didnt fancy the yellow for diving.

But being as this is a 100 inch pizza, the biggest pizza in the world, and would blow your bellies clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Do I feel lucky?” Well, do ya, punk?

But let’s put it this way. LiVARpool would have had that penalty though that’s for sure. The referee was terrible his officiating was abysmal, not sure why he was so bad for a huge chunk of the game. Maybe he should be in the new spec savers advert.

    DKillers,
I had no intention of reading the matchday comments and especially after avoiding them at the time. When a few different posters commented on the negativity I couldn’t believe how so I took a quick look. I posted the most negative in that twenty minutes we were absolutely all over them. I do not agree at all that these a real time comments. If the crowd sat moaning about set pieces etc while we were battering them, there wouldn’t be any time to get behind the team.

    Harley,

With us winning yesterday will have knocked the wind out of the scousers. I’m pretty sure Klopp would have been targeting mainly us as in their eyes we were potentially faltering only getting 1 point in 2x games. Although we were mainly focused and confident of a toon win yesterday. As we win so convincingly yesterday. Lfc will definitely have the wind punched out of them and on that note they are playing Villa right at the wrong time. I actually believe that Villa could well spring a surprise tomorrow, probably a draw but it wouldn’t surprise me if they won. Here’s hoping as I’d love it, just love it (coining the KK phrase) if lfc couldn’t make the top 4 after all this nonsense and shenanigans.

I must say I was very disappointed and surprised at your reaction to The Bard. When I very politely pointed out to you we were trying to ignore a particular troll you replied he doesn’t bother you, you then implied that he bothers me (which he doesn’t) and that I should just ignore him and skip his posts while you pretty much encouraged him. Despite your nonchalant advice you then reacted like that when someone poked fun at you 😕

Our return from set pieces has been poor this season, especially as we have someone as good as Trips taking them. So it was good that we actually got two yesterday.

    Deserved criticism!
