After the heroics and excitement of last night’s terrific 4-1 win at home to Brighton last night Eddie Howe, after going home last night and watching the game on TV – our top head coach was back in front of the cameras for his press conference this morning, for the home game against Leicester City on Monday night.
A win in that game will get Newcastle into the Champions League for the first time since Sir Bobby’s last full season at Newcastle in the 2003-2004 season.
This would be unbelievable.
We will probably be missing Joe Willock for the season with a hamstring injury, and maybe it will also be too soon for Jacob Murphy and Sean Longstaff, but we do have some youngsters to come in for the last couple of games – they deserve their chance.
Another interesting press conference from the humble and modest Eddie Howe this morning – we are so blessed to have this man at the club.
Comments welcome.

Comment #5Eddie mentioned nowt about his new game plan/tactic – getting Pope to kick the ball out of play or upfield so the opposition cannot attack us.
Must be keeping it secret to use in our next game.

Comment #12Taco – best season ever? Probably in my lifetime. Enjoyed the season more than any Keegan and Bobby year.
Must be close based on exceeding general expectations.
Can next year be better….

Comment #17Yeah Check, probably my favourite season ever too. There were some great seasons under Keegan and Robson but this eclipses them for me especially watching other big sides falter as well as how well we have done.

Comment #18It will be years before we have 2 equal 11s, arguably Man City dont even have that yet (but they are damn close to it)

Comment #20You’ve got nothing to say regarding all of your glaring grammatical/punctuational errors then Tuff?
Might I suggest a nice pop up book, or one of those Old McDonald books where the animals make a noise when you press the buttons?
It’s just that I fear those Peppa Pig books you love so much might be a bit too advanced for you. I know you like those pretty little pictures, but it’s not going to help if you can’t comprehend the words. You’ll get there though, I believe in you.

This or 95/96 for me. The only difference being this season isn’t ending in bitter disappointment like it did in 96.
The KK season did have Euro 96 immediately after it though which was a quality tournament.

Comment #23Villa win and we are in, Villa draw and we are closer.
The draw still mean Liverpool can catch us on goal difference but highly unlikely being seven ahead.
Simple solution, win our last two games of the season and finish on 75 points.
Last time we hit 75 points in the premier was back in 95-96 season.
Over 25 years ago, how time fly’s. 😉

Comment #25I preferred a couple of seasons under Keegan I think we finished third the first year up with Cole breaking records. It was especially good as we’d been struggling in Division Two for a while. Suddenly we had an ex player managing, Beardsley returning, and playing great football with a squad full of young local players and cheap buys. Then there were the two seasons we could have won.
I’d say I prefer these players to Robsons because they were written off and turned their career around. Everyone loves a zero to hero story and we have several. Robson had a few with questionable attitudes.

I found it difficult to enjoy these past few weeks. Experienced more anxiety than enjoyment to be honest. It’s has been an incredible season and I’ll enjoy more when it’s over in truth. Hopefully this is the beginning of a prolonged period of success where many of us can learn to enjoy success again after the many difficult years we’ve had to endure.
Howay the lads!

I bloody new it – a tart/fanny. Should have guessed it with all the knicker wetting and hissy fits.

Comment #29The whole season has been unreal.
Still pisses a bit that Man Utd lifted that cup.
We are better than them, they caught us at a bad time. Would whoop em now.
But hopefully Ten Haag continues to be a pratt and slowly lose the confidence of his fans and players.

Comment #32ZG – yep, was my favorite year of Keegans era the first year.
Andy Cole and Beardsley, Scott Sellers and Bracewell. Great bunch.
Eddie is all about character and lads joining the club will hopefully be mint, similar to Bruno, Botman and Isak.
I do think we will get Rice if we want him. He may have to concede some salary demands tho.

I was listening to a pod on sponsorship rules. So champs league qualifications will allow us to get sponsorship from Saudi sources in and around the current rates current PL/CL teams get. Will be a massive boost that’ll enable our owners to pump more and more in so our FFP budget will increase. Exciting times.

Comment #34Pat it is not as simple as that. Yes we can get a big shirt sponsorship deal (but that won’t be as big as any of the big 6 yet) and other deals (eg stadium and training ground training kit sponsor) The owners can’t just pump money in as you can only lose so much in a 3 year cycle and we already recored losses in 2 of the last 3 seasons.
Also the man rule with will hold us back from huge spending is the new UEFA rule on wages vs turnover. Since you cannot amortise wage like you can with transfer fees over the life of a players contract.

Comment #35And I forgot to add that we are stuck with the crappy kit deal that Mike Ashley signed with Castore for 3 more years unless we can find a clever way out of it. We are missing out on £10-20 million per year from that deal.
