Liverpool Equalize In The Last Minute Against Villa – But Newcastle Could Already Have Qualified For Top Four Finish

Aston Villa took the lead against Liverpool at Anfield after 27 minutes through Ramsey, and as it looked like Villa would win the game and Newcastle would therefore officially qualify for the top four, Firmino equalized after 89 minutes.

But with Liverpool drawing 1-1, that now means that Newcastle only need to draw on Monday night: we in fact need one point in the last 2 games to ensure we qualify for Champions League.

But even if Liverpool can win their last game, at bottom of the league Southampton, and we lose our final 2 games, we could still top the Reds on goal difference.

And even though the referee played a ridiculous 10 minutes of added time to let the Reds score the winner, they didn’t do that.

Here is the latest Premier League table after today’s games, where Manchester United won at Bournemouth with a goal from Casemiro after 9 minutes.

ClubMatchesGoal Diff.Points
1Man City386189
2Arsenal384584
3Man United381575
4Newcastle383571
5Liverpool382867
6Brighton381962
7Aston Villa38561
8Tottenham38760
9Brentford381259
10Fulham38252

We are sure that Eddie Howe will say we need to beat Leicester on Monday night to make absolutely sure – and why not on our last home game of this magnificent season.

In fact, Eddie Howe will desperately want to win our final two games, with the last game being at Chelsea on Sunday, 28th May.

And why not, indeed.

🙂

Also, if we win our final two games, we will finish 3rd top above Manchester United on goal difference, even if the Red Devils also win their final two games.

HWTL!

    Uncertain,
I suspect Citeh will strengthen.they won’t sit around and do nothing. The question is who they go for in my mind.

    Taco,

They just need good accountants which I imagine they have in place. The wage structure is important granted. You buy a 50 mill player over 5 years on 150 grand/week he costs you 17.5 mill/year. That’s considerable given our previous losses.

Yeah Guardiola just doesn’t let up. They’ll strengthen. But the other big clubs will also do the same, and Villa too. They all know the importance of finishing in the European places, all are more than capable, and this will be their main focus next term. We are now one of 8 clubs, who will be doing their damndest to finish top 6 minimum. You can’t let up.

They probably don’t need to this year. And they’ll probably win their court case!

That is exactly my point though, transfer fees can be spread across the lifetime of a players contract. Wages can’t because £10M per year is still £10M per year. There is no other way to account for it.

That is something that Todd Boehly is hopefully going to work out over the next few years.

All the way back to 2005, only one non-Big-6 team has finished in the top-4…..Leicester when they won the league. That is the level of what we’re on the verge of accomplishing this season – becoming only the second team in 18 years not named Man City, ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, or Tottenham to finish top-4.

It is truly amazing. Great owners, great head man in Eddie, great staff behind Eddie, numerous scouts added along with Ashworth, Eales in place to get sponsorship money galore. And young players like Bruno, Botman, Gordon, Isak, Willock (add Joelinton and ASM at only 26 years old).

So much to look forward to…

Still some work to do of course. We lose our final two, and Liverpool win their last by a handsome margin, which we know they can and we are frankly spectacularly undone at the death.

Most likely scenario though, we blow Leicester away in the first thirty minutes in front of a delirious home crowd.

I do hope Joel and Trippier are fit though, and wouldn’t mind this starting 11….
    …………………….Pope.
    Trippier……Schar…..Botman….Burn.
    ………………Bruno…..Joel.
    …….Miggy……….Isak………St Max.
    …………………..Wilson….

433 with Anderson in as a direct replacement for Willock more likely I suppose, and fair enough.

    Dane,
Unfortunately you’ve got little to no chance of getting a ticket in the away end for the Chelsea match, try a Facebook site called nufc face value spares, there is scammers on there but luckily they get fished out quite early, don’t reply to anyone who can’t use correct grammar or wants to send you electronic tickets, they don’t exist.

I was talking to my Italian friend today as he likes Forest too but is an AC supporter as he is from Trieste. Anyway speaking of corruption and shady accounting he was saying Juventus was looking at maybe a 15 point deduction as they have been selling the likes of a 3rd string GK and low class players to 3rd division teams for 20-30 million to make the books look good with the money coming from who knows where.

I’ve never really gone along with the claim that Liverpool and Man United get preferential treatment from the officials, but watching the match last I see no other way to explain the number of fouls on Villa players that the ref let go.
It’s great to see refs doing their best to let play go on but surely it has to be in both directions?
A Villa player would have had to have a leg severed to get a foul yesterday and even then only after a VAR review.
I guess you only notice it when the results affects you.
    Disgraceful
