Video – Goalkeeping Master Class With Newcastle Star Shay Given

Shay Given is one of Newcastle’s best ever goalkeepers, and he made a total of 462 appearances for Newcastle and 134 appearances for the Republic of Ireland.

And Shay has kept in tough with his former club and like many former players is a stauch supporter of the club.

Eddie Howe has often said he wants the former great players to keep in touch with the club, and he recently welcomed Shay back as he worked with Newcastle’s other goalkeepers in a goalkeeping master class.

You can feel to camaraderie at Benton as Shay gets to work.

And of course they make goalkeepers bigger and taller these days, with Shay at 6ft 1ins and Nick Pope at 6ft 7ins – must be those hamburgers with all the protein in them.

This is a very entertaining video and we hope you enjoy it.

Any Toon; They have been in a play off final before, in 2014.

I guess time wasting isn’t allowed against Liverpool.

The one-on-one that Almirón botched wasn’t actually straightforward.

Yes…I do love VAR when it suits us! Haha actually the other day I was reading where all teams would be if it wasn’t for VAR, Liverpool without VAR would have had 6 less points, the biggest delta in the league, we’d have had one less apparently

It is def unusual on an offside for red to go to monitor..I’ve not seen it but maybe debate was whether interfering?

Not liking Villa’s play here. It’s almost like they’re down to 10 men.

Dias looked off when the first ball was played in. That wasn’t checked. The offside call against van Dijk was harsh.
They got it right but it seemed a strange one.
Carragher can work it out. 🙂

Novo, totally agree. The first ball into the box in the build-up was clearly offside. Somehow VAR looked at the wrong ball….but got the decision right somehow. So weird.

    DKillers,

VAR bottled it I reckon mate. Coz it hit the Villa player does it constitute a new phase of play would have been the confusion. All part of the same attacking phase of play even though it hit the Villa player surely so initially offside.
Fortunate the VAR passed it back to the ref I suppose.
Howard Webb’s message getting through maybe, it’s not to be re-refereed as the man on the pitch is in charge.

Novo again, definitely not liking Villa’s play for the last 15-20 minutes. As I said, you’d think they are down to 10 men…desperate defending, zero possession. There’s no way they’ll hold on with play like this.

The thing is, if Dias left the ball van Dijk was onside from the original cross.
