Callum Wilson has been in magnificent since early April, scoring 11 goals and in 29 PL appearances this season, he has taken his goal tally up to 18 with 5 assists.
Callum had a difficult time after the World Cup but has come roaring back to form at the right time.
And with his contract running out next June, we would expect the 31 year-old will get a contract extension for at least a couple of years this summer.
It was a great 4-1 win over Brighton last Thursday night, and it was good to see the Seasiders beat the Saints, and they will be in European competition for the first time ever next season.
The Brighton fans deserve that.
Going into the important game against Lecsisyer tomorrow night we need only a draw to guarantee Champions League football.
And while this may look like an almost certain win, nothing is ever easy in the Premier League, and we expect Eddie Howe to demand two good performances and two win in our last two games.
In our final game a week today we are at Chelsea and could win that game too.
Here is the current PL table after today’s games.
Club | Matches | Goal Diff. | Points | |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Man City | 38 | 61 | 89 |
2 | Arsenal | 38 | 45 | 84 |
3 | Man United | 38 | 15 | 75 |
4 | Newcastle | 38 | 35 | 71 |
5 | Liverpool | 38 | 28 | 67 |
6 | Brighton | 38 | 19 | 62 |
7 | Aston Villa | 38 | 5 | 61 |
8 | Tottenham | 38 | 7 | 60 |
9 | Brentford | 38 | 12 | 59 |
10 | Fulham | 38 | 2 | 52 |

Comment #81Great news from Ed, what a man.
But back to the big story, who could forget Phileas Fogg: First Class Snacks from Medomsley Road, Consett?

I don’t know about everyone else, but my mind still hasn’t fully accepted the enormity of what we have achieved in such a breathless season!
I’m sure that once it’s all done and dusted and the close season is here it will all be real.
However, right now I’m just enjoying every moment in the now. 🙂
I was just reading Eddie talking about the prospect of bring ruthless when he had to be. Sadly some players that have been part of the journey will go. Tough decisions..

Comment #83Consett was my birthplace and I grew up there. There were a fair few people I knew and was at school with went to make Phileas Fog crisps when it opened in the wake of the Thatcher apocalypse. Much needed employer when there wasn’t much work around locally.

No unfortunately I won’t be at the game tonight. I have a cup match to play, scheduled for tonight months ago (darts league 3 man team knockout) Can’t let the other 2 lads down) and I can’t even sit down in front of the TV and focus on the match! 🙁
The game is on 3 tellys around the club though. I don’t think think there will be too much focus on the arras tonight haha

Comment #86You can’t talk about crisps without giving a mention to the horrendous and despicable chocolate flavoured made by Walkers, trialled in the NE for a short time and never to be seen or heard of again 😕

Comment #89On the pronunciation of foreign names, my mate’s dad (sadly no longer with us) always struggled with the more exotic or unfamiliar players’ names.
After many failed attempts, Mitrovic became “thon Sorb”. He still retains that name in our circle. 🙂

“Wow, has it changed since last night?”
Wor B… “No dear, but it is a thing of beauty and deserving of my gaze.”
It’ll serve her right if I get a poster-size printout of the league table and hang it at the top of the stairs. 😆

Comment #97Wor B…thats proper class mate…and a brilliant business idea…a huge poster sized final league table placings poster will sell at least half a million and become the biggest selling christmas stocking filler for this coming xmas.
Can I place my order and send the usual £10 to the usual address??

Comment #99There will of course be a scratch and sniff element to the poster. Each team will have its own unique aroma.
I’d advise against using your finger nail when you get to Man Ure.

Comment #100Been on a golfing weekend and then travelled to Düsseldorf so haven’t had any time for the blog the last few days. Was playing golf with a Man Utd fan so we both followed the 3pm Saturday matches and couldn’t believe we were so close to guaranteed CL football only for Liverpool to score a late goal. Still…maybe the VAR conspiracy theorists didn’t have much to say when they got a goal disallowed by VAR that seems like it was tight.
The chance of us failing to qualify for the CL now are tiny. We’ll surely stuff Leicester tonight anyway. I’ve already told colleagues that I’m finding a sports bar.

Comment #102On the other news that I just read, great news that Ed will keep the blog open! As I said before, any change (even changing ownership of this blog as it is) would result in some people leaving so the best way to keep as many of us as possible together is this.
Ed, I’m sure there will be those amongst us who would be happy to chip in with an article from time to time if you’re open to that.
Thanks for keeping this great blog going, especially during a very challenging time for you!

Buzzing for tonight – sadly not at the game but will be watching and drinking in the atmosphere, hope everyone has a great night, hopefully FtC gets a ticket too
What a season it’s been, gonna be a lot of people with sour heads tomorrow … me included …
Wonder if ilovetoon will give us a showing tonight to say how we’re not going to qualify for CL and Leicester are the better team 😉

“Coral price this game as follows:
NUFC win 4/1
The draw 21/5
LCFC win 7/1”

Comment #108ToonDarnSarf: min odds 4/1 on 3 outcomes.
Spread the stake evenly over all 3 and you’re quids in. Min 33% return and that’s on a home win.

Comment #110Morning all and what a beautiful morning it is. The final home game this season is upon us and the extended Geordie nation is set to party. Leicester must try and win which will suit us just fine. We will get the win, confirm Champions League, confound all of the critics and send a very clear message. Be afraid, you ain’t seen nothing yet!

It’s a typo. I’ve checked. I’m not actually a gambling guy, but often have to carry out statistical analysis and figures come to me naturally. When I see stuff like this, it sticks out like a dog’s d**k to me 🙂

Comment #115Why I think Szoboszlai will adapt to EPL is because his willingness to do the defensive works and get tackles in. On the other hand Chelsea might get Timo Werner 2.0 hopefully, which is Nkunku, but I think Nkunku is a better finisher.

Comment #120Taco – we’re coming up with the ideas and they’re making money from them??? 😉
I think it makes sense to keep Dummett and sign one of those 2 as a backup keeper. Why have Gillespie and lose a spot when we could have Forster and have that extra spot?
