If Man U win on Thursday you’d have to think they’ll beat Fulham as well, maybe time to give Ashby and Miley a start.

The achievement this season has to be recognised first, what a season we have had. The team and Howe have been fantastic. They have massively over performed given the small squad and integration of new players. It’s been truly special and the ground is going to be rocking for the champions league games next season.

The game itself was difficult last night. We made good chances and hit the woodwork three times. Another night, one of those goes in and Leicester need to open up, allowing us to get at them.

I’d like to see Miley get some minutes at least given he was withdrawn from the England U17s Euro squad to stay behind.

Shackles off against Chelski, I hope we absolutely hammer them. Two of the big six sitting 8th and 12th, Brighton in Europe for the first time ever NUFC back in the Champions league. Best season for a long long time and all despite the best efforts of Masters and VAR. Sweet!

Not a fan of the “massively over-performed” narrative, like.
    Have we?
Eddie came in, got everyone fit, built a team mentality, showed everyone what they could achieve, from bottom to half way last season… The players did the rest, with most of the fan base buying in.
I bet most on here thought top 8 up before the start of the season…
    😉

Chelsea will be a good game. At home they will definitely want to play but they have a tactically inept manager and a mis-matched squad with a fair few desperate to leave this summer.

We have no pressure, shackles off, so we’ll definitely get at them. The question is, will we have 100% intensity knowing the job is done.

Player of the season a tough one.
Trippier, Botman, Pope, Joelinton, Bruno and Wilson.

I think Trippier just ahead of Bruno.

I guess we can discuss the scale of the overachievement but I’d say it is a massive over achievement.

Players like Joelinton and Longstaff started to turn things around last season but you have others like Murphy who didn’t really get a look in until after the work cup stepping up.

We’ve got a thin squad in terms of those Howe knows he can trust and for good parts of the season we were without Isak, ASM and Wilson. We also had shorter spells without Miggy and Bruno for different reasons.

Howe may have unleashed their potential in a great tactical system, as opposed to magically improving bad players, but to get where we are in such a short pace of time is very special and I’d say an over achievement given the levels of our rival for these positions.

It is these type of games at home where teams sit back which have cost us a shot at the title.
We struggle to break down packed defences. No way would Foxes have got a draw at City.
The team has been great under the best manager but 3 or 4 first teamers need upgrading if we are to challenge the very best. Some do not score enough goals and/or do not flourish with the ball in tight situations.
The defence needs more pace as we are playing higher up the pitch
Have Botman or Schar ever got their head on a corner?
This is me thinking next season and looking to improve. But this has been a terrific season.
Let’s spend sensibly but a marquee player would set the sewing circle talking. No Neymar types and not too many to upset the team spirit.
    Brilliant

I have no doubt Eddie will push them to be 100%, it’s just whether the players with all their niggles and fatigue can get that last 5% out of themselves in a game which is relatively meaningless. I don’t doubt they’ll try but their bodies may not let them.

Consistently performs at a level that is all in… he’s given nowt away all season…scored a few crucial goals, assisted and brought an attitude to die for… against all odds, on the back of complete ridicule, even from our own fans!

But, like crownie says: everyone at the club, really!

That’s definitely the next step and something I’m sure the club will target over the summer. Very few teams do it well. You either need somebody like a Salah who nearly always seems to find a way to cut in and shoot, despite defenders knowing he’ll do it, or you need players who can deliver the ball in or through teams like De Bruyne.

I’m sure we’ll look to find players of that quality to supplement what we have now and I’m also sure Howe will be working to tweak things to help give us more chances. Remember last night we were fractions away from goals when hitting the wood work and having chances cleared off the line.

Yet somehow we were still winning, gaining points, not losing games…which proves that our squad IS better than is GIVEN credit for.

Perception is not necessarily reality, is it?

All I’m saying mate, is that just ‘cos the names on the squad sheet aren’t fashionable, don’t mean those players are over achieving.
They’ve been woken up, ‘woke’, if you will?
    😀
    Believed in, that’s all!

But, gotta say: there weren’t many Toon fans that do and have supported every player, come what may! Have there?

Maybe the ‘fans’ are ‘Woke’ now, too?

    Omgosh!
    That will never do!
    Keep(or get) the Faith!

aye brunos ankle needs a full recovery plan done no doubt the clubs sorting that out, this brings me to we need between 6 to 8 players brought in during the summer, like eddie howe said to combat the league, champions league, the cups you need a good squad of players to cope with it

id be after another top striker, 3 top midfielders which includes a no 10, 2 defenders and a goalie

It’s a difficult one to judge. The players have definitely been underrated by many, including myself at various times. So that is definitely a part of it.

I suppose next season will be a good test of them too. I’m not saying you can dismiss one season as lucky but seeing consistency over multiple seasons will show that it wasn’t just a season where everyone got carried along and “overperformed” but this genuinely is there level.

I think if you discount City as they have a solid group of 19/20 who alongside a great manager are streets ahead in terms of consistency and their top level, we probably aren’t that far off other teams.

I think you can make a case for players like Kane, Salah, Odegaard and Alison to probably improve the team but other than that, there are good players who you can argue the toss over but very few that would really improve our 11.

I don’t disagree that mentally the players will be on it, just whether they physically can given what they’ve put into this campaign and the feeling of “crossing the finish line” with getting top 4. Will the adrenaline still kick in when the muscles and bones ache.

But then again it’s Chelsea who are shockingly bad, so you never know. 50% might do it against them.
