There was a little frustration tonight at St. James’ Park that Newcastle couldn’t score the goal that would give us the win tonight.
But hey, Newcastle got the draw we needed, and we are now in the Champions League next season with a minimum of almost £30M guaranteed.
The bad news is that we couldn’t score – but Newcastle hit the woodwork 3 times – the good news is that we kept our first clean sheet in 7 games.
There was a blip just before the game when Joelinton picked up a knock in the warm-up and that gave Elliot Anderson a start.
It was a game we dominated, but we couldn’t convert the chances we created.
And a great save in stoppage time by Nick Pope from Castagne prevented Leicester from getting a shock 1-0 win.
That would have been really hard to take indeed.
What an absolute fabulous season we have had and as my brother Rod said yesterday on our phone call it’s like Roy and the Rovers.

Comment #9Just got in and had to watch on the phone but so happy for all the fans there and the team. Can hitting the post 3 times count for at least one goal? 😉 I heard the broadcaster here mention we have hit the post 17 times this year.
Nervy at the end but they did it!!!! Champions League nights under the lights!

Comment #11Going to be an interesting summer, getting CL massive for revenue foundations given FFP. On that not FFP is an absolute joke tbh, all it does is ensures the biggest teams/biggest revenues at the time it had come in/enforced, become incredibly hard to catch – nothing fair or pro competition about it

Comment #13Dr Ed mentions the Joe Linton knock. I thought Anderson did ok, didn’t really look out of place, but I think with big Joe on the pitch we would have powered through and won the game.
Hindsight obviously, but I think Big Joe would have brought a bit more to the party with his power and intent.

Comment #17Sorry repost – missed the bus – I should have known!
Well that was a game…….
I’m not sure why….. but I feel disappointed that we didn’t win! But it’s certainly better than worrying at the other end of the division.
We’ll need a big slice of luck and hope that Man U drop points but at the same time if we’d been offered 4th at the start of this season I would have grabbed it with both hands.
Overall a fantastic achievement by Eddie Howe and all the team involved.
Well done to everyone involved and thanks for all the effort put in….. let’s go to Stamford Bridge and finish on a high note eh?

Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohammed Salisu, Mohammed Kudus, Maddison. Thurman and Diaby.
Just a few we’ve been linked with, for me Szoboszai and Diaby are the ones with Kudus. Those three change our goal scoring numbers.
If many haven’t heard of Kudus, he can play in several positions.

Comment #27We are top of the league say we are top of the league.
In this season’s Premier League, Newcastle have hit the frame of the goal 24 times – five more than any other side.

Comment #28MOTM….We all looked good and solid again, controlled the game, kept pressing, snuffed out most everything they tried to get going, so many close ones. But in the end that save by Pope saved the point we needed. MOTM for that alone.

Comment #32OMG had turn the JA and Razer off near the end, and had to tell me husband to shut up, because he was agreeing with them. Hitting the bar constantly missing easy chances, Longstaff forever slipping.
My nerves, and I drank nearly a half bottle of Bailey’s.
But we’re there don’t care if we’re fourth, what an achievement.
WELL DONE MY TEAM.
well done Eddie Howe.
I remember going to an away game last time we were in Europe.
Who knows I may get to another one
Hope it’s the final.

Comment #33Started to get twitchy flashbacks to that Cantona goal, but thankfully didn’t happen, Phew!
We had something like 92% possession and hammered them 1st half. Still can’t believe we didn’t score.
Target achieved, 2 yrs min ahead of schedule, now we have to plan how to stay in top 4 while playing in CL and still win a domestic trophy. Easy peasy 😆

Comment #35Yep…low block is an effective set up against us in our current shape…we need a couple or three purples who can do the number 10 role effectively and Miggy needs to learn to cross right footed and ASM needs to learn to cross left footed.

Comment #37One small point about Leicester tonight.
They were superbly drilled in what needed to be done to defend. Given how much pressure they were under it was amazing how few free kicks they gave away, and none in dangerous situations.
Unfortunately their attacking coach has had his flip flops on all week and is now on the beach.

So much truth in those last 2 lines, I nearly pulled out what little hair I have left every time Miggy cut back inside instead of whipping a cross in, the ASM came on and did exactly the same from opposite side – Aaargh!!! 😉

Comment #39We’ve done it ladies and gents, although not in the fashion we mostly thought. To be fair to Leicester, they came with a game plan and OMG it nearly come off, although Wor Pope had other ideas. That would have been a sickening sucker punch.
As we know it’s a game of fine margins and we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net, but it just shows you how far we’ve come in a very short space of time, as Leicester used to be head and shoulders above us, now they came to SJP with a low block I’ve not witnessed since the fake Geordie days…
Anyway what a season, what a team, what a club, what a fanbase, what great special owners, and last but certainly not least, what a manager and coaching staff. We are absolutely blessed to have all this laid out upon us. Enjoy it, we are in the champions league next season. Bring on the summer transfer window, get the right players in that will fit that in with that amazing squad of warriors and take us up a level to take on Europes elite. Here we go, and watch our club really take off like a rocket.
Onwards and upwards,
HWTL!!!! X
