Newcastle Get The Point – Qualify For Champions League – First Time Since 2003 – Fans In Dream World

There was a little frustration tonight at St. James’ Park that Newcastle couldn’t score the goal that would give us the win tonight.

But hey, Newcastle got the draw we needed, and we are now in the Champions League next season with a minimum of almost £30M guaranteed.

The bad news is that we couldn’t score – but Newcastle hit the woodwork 3 times – the good news is that we kept our first clean sheet in 7 games.

There was a blip just before the game when Joelinton picked up a knock in the warm-up and that gave Elliot Anderson a start.

It was a game we dominated, but we couldn’t convert the chances we created.

And a great save in stoppage time by Nick Pope from Castagne prevented Leicester from getting a shock 1-0 win.

That would have been really hard to take indeed.

What an absolute fabulous season we have had and as my brother Rod said yesterday on our phone call it’s like Roy and the Rovers.

Or maybe don’t use them as inverted wingers and have them swap sides. Maxi can cross with his left when forced to, though all I can say about Almiron is that he can stand using his right leg.

One or both may find themselves surprisingly upgraded this summer. We’ll see. Enough time for that sort of stuff in the next week few weeks

Question of the day/night – How on God’s earth did Bruno miss with that header against the post??? I didn’t believe it was possible to miss from there.

Clearly our destiny was to qualify, but give ManU 3rd – whassup?

Dan burn and Trippier were very poor tonight. Gave the ball away countless times.

Excellent point needed to make sure liVARfool cant catch up and champs league next season.

Almiron and isak aswel as bruno were brilliant today, wilson not so much, frustrating for schar and botman, popes save was top notch. Longstaff and anderson looked good. St maxi made a difference when came on.

Soin as miggy off the dynamic changed and we sat back as gordon offered nothing.

    Ref was a joke again.

Murphy listening to oppo team tactics is quality shithousery

    2nd question of the day/night…

Have we ever won when the Chairman’s been in the ground??

I think he’s a major jinx and needs upgrading, but not until he’s signed off on the Summer budget. 😆

This ownership has very real designs on making us the best club in the world. We’ve had 4 excellent and thoughtful windows under them, but this one coming up will be next level. It’s a truly mouthwatering prospect for the fan base, and a just reward for the quality of the support we give.

Awful game – painful frustrating to watch

Two teams that did not want to lose
    Man of the March
Pope for the save at the end when we were farting around
Bruno – could of easily ha a red for his follow through with studs up early

    Bob,

Good point I actually don’t think we’ve won when Yasir has been in the ground 😳

However, seeing him out on the pitch soaking up the atmosphere and getting to the CL next season he looked so happy, we are at least 3-4 years ahead of the programme/curve and it’s just unbelievable. Pinch yourself, it’s actually happening. We are in the Champions League again after 20 years. Hopefully Yasir brings better luck next season 😉

Well, that had potential banana skin written all over it, but we got through it. My arse was twitching like a rabbits nose when they had that one shot, but his Popiness was all over it like white on rice.
What a tremendous season of football!
What a team! What an achievement! What a time to be alive!

I hope you’re all in your happy places right now, I raise a glass to you all. Skol!

Have to say I found the whole game such an anti-climax. It was like watching someone bang their head against a brick wall for 90 minutes.
I don’t think we’d have scored if we’d played all night.
Thankfully our super and totally focussed keeper at the end was responsible for preventing the biggest smash and grab of all time.
I appreciate some of our players are tired after their magnificent exertions this season and others are carrying a variety of knocks but, forgetting the excessive amount of play and slick passing movement we showed tonight, the lack of creativity and imagination was disturbing. This transfer window is going to be crucial. More quality and players with vision ACROSS the board is vital if we are to maintain our progress next season.
I wanted to be entertained and excited with a winning team on this special night and occasion but it didn’t happen and though I am delighted with and proud of the clubs immense efforts this season to get into the Champions League the whole evening, I have to admit, left me a little flat.

What a fantastic season, what a brilliant team, what an incredible leader. Left me in tears. Incredibly fitting that it was sealed at home too. Just AMAZING!
