Sandro Tonali has completed his medical in Romania and the next thing is for the announcement to be made – probably today or tomorrow.
The player will be on €7M/year wages on Tyneside, which is more than double what he was getting at Milan.
This is a terrific signing for Newcastle.
Here is the latest from Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano on the stellar transfer:
Sandro Tonali deal is completed but will not be announced today or this week as it takes time to complete formal details. ???? #NUFC
All documents are in place, the deal is done and sealed. No doubts. Contract will be valid for 6 years. https://t.co/FfbkzFsMiH

Newcastle are also reported to be interested in two other players to go after, now that we seem to have all but wrapped up the Tonali deal.
Gianluca Di Marzio is reporting, among other outlets, that Newcastle want to sign a double deal for forward Federico Chiesa of Juventus, and defender Theo Hernandez of AC Milan.
25 year-old Chiesa (shown above) is an Italian right winger who plays for Serie A club Juventus and the Italy national team – 42 caps and 5 goals.
25-year-old Theo Hernandez (shown above) is a Frenchman who plays as a left-back for Serie A club AC Milan and the France national team (17 caps 2 goals).
Hernandez is known for his speed, down the wing and his goalscoring ability, and is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the world.
These are two top players, and it shows that in this summer window Newcastle are interested in going after quality rather than quantity, and maybe three or four top players is all we need this summer?
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, on his Twitter account, no official offers have been made by Newcastle with both players being monitored by the Tyneside club:
?? @NUFC are also monitoring @juventusfc forward Federico #Chiesa and @acmilan left-bacm #TheoHernandez. No official negotiations in progress. @SkySport
— Gianluca Di Marzio (@DiMarzio) June 22, 2023
We have a number of targets at left-back, with Arsenal’s Scottish International Kieran Tierney the initial number one target at left back.
It seems that Newcastle have once again done their homework thoroughly, and have multiple choices lined for each position that needs to be strengthened this summer.
Let’s hope Newcastle can get good deals to bring in these two top players (and others) this summer.
Next up should be the announcement of Sandro Tonali – a top signing for our club.

Comment #6Munster, sure it is that Bruno is worth more now than we paid for him but that backs up my point. For the prices we have paid for Bruno and Tonali, even if Tonali turns out to be average then we will still have spent better than whoever pays £100m for Rice.

Comment #11Its massive bringing in a player of Tonali`s class, but i`ll show my ass in Burton`s window if we manage to pull the Hernandez deal off.
He is ranked as the best LB in the world atm.
We do have an advantage now though, we have signed his team mate.

Comment #12Wl toon some of the Irish nufc lads that I know don’t rate him as he wasn’t good at euros and was taken to the cleaners at the Aviva. I do rate him though
Although the photo doing the rounds is him getting blown by some bird on a boat and I’d say transfer thoughts are not on his mind 🙂

Comment #15Yeah, I cant see Hernandez coming for the kind of money they will want. If we are going to spend that kind of money on a left back I would go for Alphonso Davies from Bayern instead.

Davies recently came out saying that he doesn’t want to play left back and wants to play further forward!!
So there could be an opportunity for a team that offers that kind of role change

Hernandez would be a perfect fit for our style imo, I bet you are looking at 80m at least for his sig, maybe we will stick with Tierney after all.
Your right about him not focusing on any transfer if he is getting blown by a bird, but once Dan turns up flashing his eyelashes and a big contract he will kick the bird into the blue mate.

Interesting, I didn’t know that and watch a fair bit of Bundesliga. I am sure Eddie would set him straight – “If you want to play further forward then help the ball stay there”

The chairman’s either a bloody good actor or he really is chuffed with being with NUFC. I’ll go for the latter – he’s speaking from the heart.
