Here is Eddie Howe’s interview with Sky Sport’s reporter Keith Downie before tonight’s third and final game in the Premier League Summer Series in America against Brighton, who finished 6th top of the Premier League last season on 62 points.
The game will take place in the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from New York City.
It is the home stadium of the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer and NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women’s Soccer League.
It should be another close and interesting game tonibht with the kickoff set at 7:30pm local time – that’s 12:30am (Saturday) Newcastle time.

Comment #361Scott – Eddie himself said he wanted to field completely different teams to give every a run out. So rather than fielding an A team and then a B team, he mixed everything up. Good workout for everyone, especially some of the younger players. Job done.

On our wing play, I was wondering if we working on playing narrower in our game against Chelsea, Miggy and Gordon seemed to be playing further inside. If we are, it could be that we are trying to develop plays on the intricacies of unlocking flooded defences.

I summarised my view on the trip in post 324. You may have missed it cos there was a fishing post immediately afterwards. 🙂

What a truly brilliant video, best he’s ever done and he even gave Julie from Dubai mags a piece to camera.
That looks an epic day.

Comment #371Apologies to Max and SITC, I don’t plan on leaving the blog and wasn’t looking for support – but thank you anyway, that was nice 🙂
As Jail said, I was just highlighting that some people, in my perception, react / behave in a very short-sighted, incendiary way sometimes, and this is compounded during a match. This makes me think ‘why bother’.
Bills (and others) have captured my thoughts about pre-season. This summer series has been about meeting certain objectives (with winning this summer series way down the list) and Eddie will have largely achieved them.

Thanks for the memories.
Geordies will recall tales of being at SJP when you raised our heatbeats.
Love the way Eddie said that it was FFP rules that effectively forced the move. That way they have nothing to investigate other than Chelsea, Liverpool and ManU2 refusing £20m for Harry MacQuire – that’s outrageous, at least £19m to much

Comment #373To add to the above, last night was a unique game and any conclusions must be established with caution. We will very likely not play 2 games in around 48-hours (like the Chelsea and then Brighton game) for the rest of the season. Add to that it was pre-season in a hot/humid environment with travelling between games, then I am sure one of Eddie’s top objectives was, ‘just get everyone through the game unscathed’. Hopefully we have done that, and we still have Longstaff and Willock to come back. 🙂

I’ll miss his pirouettes but it looked like he has passed the skill on to Lewis Miley.

Comment #375I agree with EGB in that the young uns brought fresh energy and pressed really well which led to Brighton getting caught a few times
With it being a pre season game, the heat or under orders, I don’t think we were pressing earlier with the same verve as in a proper match. Some were definitely holding back.
I really like how Anderson gets himself into the box too.

Comment #377All rise for the Geordie Maradona
What a player we have on our hands! Been screaming it enough and glad he is now realising that potential and is establishing himself as a proper first team player and will have a big season ahead of him
A huge shout out to Eddie Howe and his coaching staff who have been absolutely incredible since coming in with showing us the development of the youngsters and the improvement of every single player in the group. Quite unbelievable with what they have achieved so far.
Anderson came back early and worked on his upper body strength and you can see he is even more of a unit than he was by the end of last season. The boy is hungry to succeed! And we have the best platform for him to do that.
It’s quite astonishing what is unfolding each day with the club with the emergent of some great young talent to come and grow and develop with a squad who have a great understanding and togetherness that is on an other level. I imagine there wouldn’t be a better place to be.

Comment #378Ace50 – I stay away from the blog during matches generally anyway. For the atmosphere to be the same during a friendly is just ridiculous. Would be great if there was a page on the blog specifically set aside for people to moan about an ongoing match, while the rest of us could talk normally.
You are not alone!

Comment #380Livramento I think the club just really like, so we are after him, because we sense the time s right to get him. It’s surely not because rb is a position of most priority, when we have Manq, to understudy Trippier who is clear first choice. Schar and Lascelles at rcb, and Targett, Burn and Dummett at lb, that’s not quite good enough though you’d probably think. Everywhere else though, I think we are good to go. I do think we’ll get Livramento though, if Southampton are reasonable about it, and he’d be a great addition, but rcb and lb are the greatest priority. We need more quality on the ball, and more pace in both positions.

Comment #381Yesterday’s sing-a-long seemed to go down well.
Thanks gentlemen.
Cbob, that Cool for Cats earworm affected me too !
It probably ended up as a bit of a hybrid.
🙂Â
As I said, another mauling of a Dury classic coming soon.
Meanwhile I’ll leave you with this….
It’s a very strange time, this transfer windowÂ
With some flip-flopping comments from those in the knowÂ
Players who were considered to be the perfect fit
Sign for another and are then labelled shit
We can take this all the way back to Jan
When we were certain that Madders would be our man Â
He had the key to unlock the doorÂ
He was going to be great, but alas, no more
Now that he’s signed for Spurs insteadÂ
His attitude’s wrong, he’s not right in the head
Then Moussa Diaby was the next big thingÂ
We got very excited by all that he’d bringÂ
But now that it’s Villa where he’s strutting his stuff
We’re told that he doesn’t work quite hard enough
Â
Next it was Slobby who became everyone’s pick
He could do no wrong, he was skilled and quick
But he went and signed for his hero, KloppÂ
Now he’s unproven and could well be a flop
Tonali is different, he’s now one of us
Everyone’s buzzing and making a fuss
Excepting for Munster, who thought for a bit
Then announced he was slow and a little bit shit !
😀
Banter Munster, I know you’re just casting your line
😉
