This suits Juve down to the ground mate..

They never wanted to be in the Conference and have stated this.
Now they can concentrate on the league and be straight back in the CL next year…

What makes the Juventus situation worse is that the European ban wasn’t supposed to come in to effect until 24/25 season.
Juventus requested for the ban to be brought forward to the 23/24 season, which UEFA agreed.

I agree with what Taco said earlier, I think it’s a bit off for people to be complaining so much about punishments when they don’t fully understand they extremity of the offences. I do think that punishments should be deterrents but I also don’t think they should punish clubs too much for minor accounting offences.

Pretty sure that our fans wouldn’t be very happy if we for a serious punishment for a minor offence…

As long as there’s consistency on punishments and clarity of any changes to the rules for new seasons.

    Ash,
How would it suit Juve more than being in the CL next season? (which they would have been were it not for the points deduction serie A handed out)

Frankly I don’t care if Juve are corrupt, it is hardly surprising, them getting straight back to the CL in a year is far from guaranteed also.

One less team in the CL wearing black and white is good though.

The actual point I was making overall is that rival fans jump all over stuff like this (which is why I was against the Maxi to PIF deal) Would you think it is fair if we broke a rule and had the harshest punishments possible?

For example, according to widespread reports, Chelsea got fined because they proactively reported something wrong in their books to UEFA under the previous ownership. Would you feel the same about punishments if our owners had to do the same having looked into and found a mistake unders Ashley’s regime?

UEFA being corrupt is not news though. It is well known. Money talks and there is a lot of self interest going on. The only thing that has changed really is that NUFC are at that table now and technically have the biggest chequebook of all.

I know I will get slated for saying that but it is true, and in my defence I did come up with the best way to cheat FFP so far.

    I said UEFA were corrupt,by the way…

How the hell can Juve get their ban brought forward a year, just because they aren’t in the CL this year???

On your FFP theory,my invoice for my membership was numbered 2,555,$%&

Can’t remember the exact number but it was over two and a half mill.

Whether this has any relevance, who knows?

    Ash,
I didn’t say it wasn’t corrupt and I understand that you think it is too. I thought I explained my point was slightly different to the typical “they are cheating narrative” when you put yourself in other people’s shoes.

If you don’t get where I am coming from that is fine too.

There’s always an appeal process for any punishment or judgement, that’s how things work. We appealed the refusal to allow the takeover by the PIF didn’t we?

Ash – why is it an advantage? Any European football is a good thing and they could always have played the fringe players if they didn’t want to take it too seriously.

It’s just part of the appeals process. Big companies with decent legal teams always find loopholes in the rules. Don’t you think that our club is doing exactly the same thing with looking for loopholes in the rules?

TDS; The original ban was for the 24/25 season because it was recognised that Juventus would not qualify for the Champions League for the 23/24 season.
Juventus did not appeal to UEFA, they negotiated a deal to bring the ban forward.

I’d certainly have taken our club winning be Europa Conference League this season if it was the one we qualified for!

Just don’t know why you’re getting upset. They also got points punishments and missed out on the CL because of that. Seems like a solid punishment to me.

Negotiation/appeal whatever. Just don’t know why some people get so upset about clubs just going through the correct process with the authorities.

Punishment for Juventus isn’t massive but points deductions, fines, and exclusion for Europe is still definitely a punishment that should serve as a deterrent to others, right?

TDS; The EPL never refused the takeover. PIF withdrew from the process. That was the official line.
There wasn’t an appeal as the EPL hadn’t formally rejected the deal.
Ashley was, allegedly, pursuing a case against the EPL because of a violation of competition laws, based on information that clubs within the EPL had unlawfully lobbied to block the deal.
The EPL’ s defence was that they hadn’t blocked the deal and that PIF withdrew from the process.
Ashley’s case was dropped when the EPL sanctioned the deal which they only did once Saudi allowed Bein sports to transmit the Premier League in Saudi and pay damages to Bein sports.

What Juve are doing (IMO) is just trying to delay further issues.

    – Will their best players stay with no Europe next season?
    – are they in a position where they might need to sell their best players?
    – Are they under significant scrutiny (from rivals, the media, sponsors, other clubs looking to snap up players etc etc)?
    – does the fine also hinder them going forward?

I would guess this will be damaging to Juve overall for at least a couple of seasons.

Novo – I was using the term loosely. We’ll never know the truth about the TO as we’re talking about intricacies of very large business deals between companies worth billions.

From what I recall, the official line from the PL was that they were waiting for clarification from the PIF regarding the proposed ownership of our club. Regardless, the processes were followed and now they own our club. It was a business deal and not a football deal.

Taco – the fine does hinder them going forward for sure. They will have to be perfect with their financial planning for the next few years and clearly don’t have any wiggle room with FFP. No Europe this season, restricted finances, reputation damage…

TDS @55, so if Trump uses delay and the appeal process hoping to get re-elected and then pardon himself, that’s okay? PIF took on the PGA and ended up taking them over as PGA didn’t have deep enough pockets to take them on in court. I accept that is two US examples but it makes my point anywhere in the world. “Justice” is for sale.

Okay lads n lasses, time for me to sling my hook. Early start in the morn and I’m driving. Only a couple of snifters anarl, precious cargo and all that. Enjoy the match, I’ll have to get it on catch up. 🙂

    TDS,
Yep, that is exactly what I think. It is a hinderance.

The problem is that people don’t look at things from an alternative point of view. Most fans (of any team) are fine with cheating as long as it favours the team they support. I still find that difficult to reconcile in the grand scheme of things. Despite I came up with the best way to cheat FFP that I ever heard.

TDS; you asked “We appealed the refusal to allow the takeover by the PIF didn’t we?”
    I’m only clarifying what happened.
I would to add I’m not upset about the Chelsea of Juventus situations but their punishments do highlight that FFP regulations have nothing to do with fair play or creating a level playing field or preventing clubs from spending money they don’t have.
It is surprising the level of sanctions applied given the punishments handed out in the Football League for example.
It also appears that the punishments handed down by UEFA are arbitrary and not based on any legislation.

Fines would count towards FFP in some ways given it comes off a clubs books as a pure loss.

I think the more interesting question is “what do UEFA or any domestic league actually do with the cash they collect from fines?” That question really intreagues me.
