An almost second Newcastle 11 side managed to come away with a 2-1 win in the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey against Brighton last night, with both goals coming from the so impressive 20 year-old Elliot Anderson, who was born in Whitley Bay: he looks to be a star of the future.
This lad can score goals and surely on the evidence of this American tour, he must be pushing to start games this season?
Comparisons have been made with Paul Gascoigne, which of course are complimentary, but this tour has shown we have youngsters coming through who will only get better this season under the guidance of our star coach Eddie Howe.
Anthony Gordon, Elliot Anderson, and 17 year-old Jamie Miley will be pushing hard this coming season and it shows just how good Eddie Howe is at coaching young footballers.
Here are the highlights from NBC Sports.
Newcastle didn’t play well in the first half and another sloppy goal conceded, but it’s never say die for this Newcastle side.
And they continue to be praised by football pundits for the way they play the game – going forward and attacking all the time.
Love it!
Next up for Newcastle are two friendly games in quick succession starting next Saturday as part of the inaugural ‘Sela Cup, presented by VisitMalta’.
Italian club Fiorentina, French club Nice, and Spanish club Villarreal are the other clubs particiating in the mini-tournament.
It’s been a good preseason for Newcatsle, but we still need a couple of first-team players brought in so we are well equipped to play in four competitions this year, the Premier League, the two local cups, and the Champions League.
It should be another exciting and positive season for Newcastle fans.
🙂

Comment #1721Clint…Agreed. I get it too, we qualify for CL, of course we all want to push on. Whilst the club will try, I do wonder what their targets for the season are? That would be key to assessing whether we’re prepared or not.
There is a strategy in place for sure and so far, they haven’t let us down, so for me, they definitely get to the end of the window…but come September 1st… 🙂

Comment #1722Nobody, (or very few) thought we would get a Champions league place in such a short period of time.
The Sauds will not go beyond fair play, so we have to move forward slower than the clubs momentum which is not ideal.
We are way behind the other clubs that have been well funded for years. We are playing catch up as I suggested it’s not ideal.
The good thing is that we have improved the playing staff and we are blessed with one of the best coaches in the league.
I am sure the club will be going full throttle to achieve similar or better results this time round, with the support of the best supporters in the league they have an excellent chance.

We shall see but a dangerous tackle is still a dangerous tackle and should be punished as such. I think what it should reduce is 6 ft growns flying though the air like a super hero before hurling themselves to the floor because someones little finger touched their back. I guess we will find out in a little over a week. The first few games are going to be really interesting as we see what actually takes shape.

Fenham’s hard at work (harumph) keeping our railways safe. We can be assured he’ll pop in soon when he’s finished for the day.

Mate, sooooo many only compare historical behaviour. Not what abd how we are changing to be successful.
We’ve shown different, innovative ways, that have already gained massively.
Yet people still don’t believe, understand or care to add 2+2.
WE ARE NOT GOING DOWN THE SPEND GAZILLIONS ROUTE…at least, not yet, as we are hamstring by ffp(fat fuq parsimony).

They are allowing dangerous tackling by slackening the sanction…no taking a broken leg back… Psychology 101!

Say something, it’s out there!
Open to interpretation, and stretching the boundaries again… Dumb-ass move!

Comment #1729Clint…Whilst i get the frustrations etc, i’m personally enjoying the fact that we’re not just throwing endless money at it. I get we want success and winning by spending loads probably would still be fantastic, but I like the idea of winning within your means, which is why I gave the last lump in charge way longer than I should have.

Yes, PIF won’t push the boat out and risk drawing attention to spend as long as the small matter of Everton’s SEEMING FFP overspend remains to be addressed.

”Windows been a joke Munster only added 1 to r squad from last year”
Maths not a strong point then as I’m pretty sure Tonali and Barnes are 2 people, not to mention Minteh. Munster reckons we have Livramento too.
Bed wetters like this giving our owners abuse is frankly ridiculous. FFP is been explained to death and those who think they always know better just won’t listen or fail to understand.
Did we even really need Barnes with Joel, Willock Gordon, Anderson on the LW and Murphy and Almiron on the right. We certainly don’t need any more wingers and midfielders as I personally want to see Miley and Anderson get game time.
Yes a quick RCB and a LB would be great but you make it sound like they’ve been sat on their proverbials doing nowt,. which I think couldn’t be further from the truth.

Comment #1738A bad tackle will remain a bad tackle and punished accordingly. Taco’s got it right, no more going down as if poleaxed for the slightest touch. It’s poor form. It should be fun to watch.

Comment #1741Clint but they are not slackening the actual rules or the sanctions for breaking the rules. What they are doing is asking refs be more lenient about physical contact in order the reduce the game getting stopped for really minor stuff. If a tackle endangers an opponent it is the same rule as last season.
You might be right that a minority of players (Vinny Jones types) may see this as free license to go around kicking the crap out of anything that moves but ultimately they are not going to get away with that so I don’t see it as a big issue.
