Newcastle Are Close To Signing One Of Our Top Summer Targets – Deal Has Just Been Agreed!

There will be an announcement soon that Newcastle’s 21-year-old right-back Harrison Ashby will move to Swansea on loan for the coming season and wear the number 30 shirt for The Swans. the same number he wears on Tyneside.

That will be a good move for Ashby as the lad needs games to become a better and more experienced player at Newcastle.

Newcastle have seemed willing to let Ashby leave and that begs the question of whether things are looking up for our long summer pursuit of Southampton 20-year-old right-back Tino Livramento.

The recruitment team at Newcastle are meticulous and would hardly let Ashby leave unless someone else was coming in to fill the gap.

We do of course have Emil Krafth coming back from an ACL injury and he was outstanding for us in the second half of the season before last, when Kieran Trippier was out injured.

The Swedish International played so well in that famous run-in to that season when we escaped relegation and finished in 11th place.

In our final 18 games of the season from 22nd January, we won 12 and drew one for a massive 37 points, – unbelievable given we had only 7 points (7 draws) from our first 14 games.

Did I say it was just unbelievable!

And news today that Tino Livramento is not expected to travel for the Saints’ first Championship game at Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night.

So maybe we will soon have a breakthrough in our pursuit of the very talented right back who is highly thought of by Newcaste’s Sporting Director Dan Ashworth.

Dan is nothing if not persistent when he wants to sign a player.

News is that the Saints want around £50M for their player and Newcastle recently had a £30M bid turned down so perhaps something closer to £40M can be agreed to – by both clubs?

We will have to wait and see, but it’s clear Newcastle think this lad can become an excellent player for us if we can get him in and under the coaching of Eddie Howe.

And in fact as I finished the article news is coming through from a number of sources that Newcastle have indeed agreed a deal for Livramento, who was very keen to join our club.

Sky Sports have just reported that a deal has been agreed between Newcastle and the Saints for Tino Livramento.

The agreed to fee is somewhere between £35M and £40M, so he doesn’t come cheap.

And that means that Sandro Tonali (£52M), Harvey Barnes (£38M) and now Tino Lavramento (let’s say £40M) have cost Newcastle around £130M this summer.

What do you think about all of this?

Comments are always welcome.

Livramento rhymes with cinquecento, which isn’t much use for a song…unless he drives one.

Jail…I disagree re your comment re Tripps…I think Tripps wants to play every game and showed last year he’s fit enough to play every game..he is still very hungry and will want that slot every game and in my opinion he’ll only get rested in early cup games and ‘easier’ league games if there is such a thing…or of course if he’s carrying a slight injury which last year he was forced to play through and this year he won’t have to

    IMO

I think Eddie has other ideas for Livvy and will be involved different than you think.

You heard it here last! 😉

    TDS,

Perhaps those kids 20 years ago listened to the trope that no big names want to go to the north east. A wealthy young player could live in Newcastle and go to London whenever they wanted by chartering a flight and it barely even scratching the surface of their wealth.

The above still has zero bearing on the fact that the narrative in football circles is that the North East is shite. It’ll change eventually, the more international players we bring in but as of right now and historically that is the narrative. I’ve heard it bandied about for years and even heard it during last season. “They’re never going to get Mbappe to move to Newcastle, no matter how successful they are, are they?” Etc.

I just don’t see Livramento at left back (though it is possible if Howe wants to change the position of this young player so I don’t rule it out) but it looks like he can play at RCB so he could potentially be extra cover for Schar.

Bloody fantastic that we’ve got these 3 major signings in before the season has even started.

dazzler – that attitude regarding the likes of Mbappe is from a small minority though and is similar to comments about Man City after they got their wealth. Some people think that players like Mbappe will only move to the clubs with the very biggest clubs in football. It’s nothing against us specifically.

The other thing for players like Mbappe is that they’re perceived as wanting to live in a major city alongside massive celebrities and the trappings that come from that.

I just don’t see the problem with any of this really. Newcastle and London are very different places so living and working in them will suit some players and not others. Also, far more players from abroad in their early 20s will have grown up not hearing too much about NUFC.

I just think some people are too sensitive about those comments. Haven’t we all seen comments about certain players perhaps not moving to London due to the temptations? It’s certainly ruined a few players’ careers.

    TDS,

Whilst I don’t necessarily disagree, I think you underestimate the reach that small minority has.

They push a narrative that there is nothing in the North East that would interest people when it comes to living here – despite themselves never living here – and most of the time they played/lived in the North West which isn’t even all that different to the North East – except you’re more likely to be robbed at knife/gunpoint, or burgled whilst you’re playing a game in the NW.

Even look at Ferguson and his “wee club up north” craic. It’s one person who carries/carried more respect in the sport than anyone (other than SBR arguably). He is a minority who can reach a majority, and that kind of mud sticks stronger than a gimp on Twitter (or X?) or Simon Jordan letting his wobbly jaw go off.

Also on the Mbappe thing TDS.

He’s been heavily linked to a loan move to Liverpool (I assume agent driven) until Klopp shut it down. That doesn’t strike me as living in the best city and rubbing shoulders with A listers.

Liverpool is no better/worse than Newcastle – yes they have a larger reach than us globally but the city isn’t exactly awash with Hollywood’s elite, and the fashion is still stuck in the velour trackies with “juicy” written on the arse in snide diamonds.

Real, everyday people who have met, lived with, loved Geordies know the craic. I meet them every week… people love Geordies and Geordieland… it’s the media, when it suits the narrative, all the old tropes and prejudices come out.
I find the other ‘extreme’ parts if the country suffer the same old crap… Cornwall being a prime example.

For this next season the parts I’m looking forward to more are:

    * Miley development.
    * Anderson kicking on hopefully.
    * a midfield trio at times being Sandro, Bruno and big Joe.

Obviously I’d love to see us kick on, whether that’s better 4th place finish or winning a cup final.

I will say I’m predicting 6th in the league and a decent cup run or two.
