Newcastle Are Close To Signing One Of Our Top Summer Targets – Deal Has Just Been Agreed!

There will be an announcement soon that Newcastle’s 21-year-old right-back Harrison Ashby will move to Swansea on loan for the coming season and wear the number 30 shirt for The Swans. the same number he wears on Tyneside.

That will be a good move for Ashby as the lad needs games to become a better and more experienced player at Newcastle.

Newcastle have seemed willing to let Ashby leave and that begs the question of whether things are looking up for our long summer pursuit of Southampton 20-year-old right-back Tino Livramento.

The recruitment team at Newcastle are meticulous and would hardly let Ashby leave unless someone else was coming in to fill the gap.

We do of course have Emil Krafth coming back from an ACL injury and he was outstanding for us in the second half of the season before last, when Kieran Trippier was out injured.

The Swedish International played so well in that famous run-in to that season when we escaped relegation and finished in 11th place.

In our final 18 games of the season from 22nd January, we won 12 and drew one for a massive 37 points, – unbelievable given we had only 7 points (7 draws) from our first 14 games.

Did I say it was just unbelievable!

And news today that Tino Livramento is not expected to travel for the Saints’ first Championship game at Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night.

So maybe we will soon have a breakthrough in our pursuit of the very talented right back who is highly thought of by Newcaste’s Sporting Director Dan Ashworth.

Dan is nothing if not persistent when he wants to sign a player.

News is that the Saints want around £50M for their player and Newcastle recently had a £30M bid turned down so perhaps something closer to £40M can be agreed to – by both clubs?

We will have to wait and see, but it’s clear Newcastle think this lad can become an excellent player for us if we can get him in and under the coaching of Eddie Howe.

And in fact as I finished the article news is coming through from a number of sources that Newcastle have indeed agreed a deal for Livramento, who was very keen to join our club.

Sky Sports have just reported that a deal has been agreed between Newcastle and the Saints for Tino Livramento.

The agreed to fee is somewhere between £35M and £40M, so he doesn’t come cheap.

And that means that Sandro Tonali (£52M), Harvey Barnes (£38M) and now Tino Lavramento (let’s say £40M) have cost Newcastle around £130M this summer.

What do you think about all of this?

Comments are always welcome.

Livramento is an exciting signing, if true.

If not for his injuries he would be a top RB in the league. He had impressive athleticism and skill. Real pace coming up the flank and could defend. With Tripps age looming larger, Tino is a good eventual replacement. Fitness is the question mark but this could be a real winner for us.

Blah. If you consider every deal that is reported as close to signing, then we’d have signed Botman 6 months earlier, signed Ekitike, Maddison, Tierney, Diaby and loads of others. It’s easy being cocky in hindsight after you repeat the media line that a signing is “close” and then actually happens.

Bottom line is that we can all read. Share links by all means but don’t try and take credit for being an ITK when all you’re doing is sharing publicly available information.

Agreed, and preferably one with some pace and a left foot. Full backs have to be able to cross from the byline to provide some width.

Hahahahaha tremendous hypocrisy and comedy blogging today.

Moanster predicts the signing of Livramento and he get abused by the usual suspects who believe the blog is theirs.

Ed predicts the same signing and surprise surprise – nothing said at all.

This new dictat that nobody else can predict or speculate apart from said culprits – astonishing.

Every time I have watched this boy he has impressed me

It wouldn’t surprise me to eventually see him settle as an attacking winger as he develops

With his injury history it might actually suit him to be rotation with us this season whereas if he plays at Southampton they will have him playing every game which is why a lot of their fans said Ralph ended up getting him injured as he needed a rest

It didn’t seem like a player we defo needed but he is just a player that if you can sign him and he wants to come you get him now before he proves his fitness and becomes 50 or 60 million worth

    Clint,
We will react the same way as we always have! – I still hate Callum McManaman and that was years ago!

What I would say is that the changes will just bring more inconsistency which is not a good thing especially as other countries league will not have the same changes so European games will be very interesting in that they won’t be reff’d by people trying to follow these instructions. It is going to be chaotic.

One thing that still irritates me (sort of related) is why the PL didn’t implement the same rules as UEFA regarding club-trained players years ago. Had they done that all English clubs would have had to invest in their academies in order to name a 25 man squad and we would not be looking at fielding a 23 man CL squad.

I think if Chelsea didn’t have Reece James you would see Tino as their RB. They only sold him to Soton because they had James ahead of him for years to come and no doubt Tino wanted to play.

No mate, you’re misunderstanding, I’m afraid, on this one.
Refs can and should already be yellow carding for cheating.
I’m talking about players being hurt because they’ve cheapened the ‘rules’. Any card after an injury does not take the injury away.
How can you not see that?
“Oh! He’s been carded! All good!”
No… someone is injured, cards aren’t medicine!
    Eh?

Personally I didn’t criticise Munster I just said I have heard this before as he made the same claim a couple of weeks ago.

Pleased that it looks like we are betting Livramento though, a good signing and as others have mentioned he can provide quality cover for Trips or allow Trips to play on the left should EH desire/need to do that in certain games. He is certainly an upgrade on both Krafth and Manq.

Very interesting signing if this completes and a wonderful backup to Trips. Surely means that Ashby is off and probably Manq too. We already have Burn, Targett, Dummett, and even Trips to play at left back.

Intriguing to see what happens to Krafth if this lad signs. I still think we need better cover at centre back.

    TDS,
The thing as that you can look at LB/CB from lots of angles. You can equally say that Krafth and Dummett as well as Burn and Lascelles can provide cover at CB. As you said earlier it looks like Lascelles is going nowhere this season (but out of contract in summer) so it looks like something else has to give now to bring anyone else in (beyond the obvious players that we will be trying to shift)

Also while it is based on very limited evidence I was high impressed with young Alex Murphy in pre-season so there is the possibility that he can provide cover at LB and LCB and won’t need a squad place for the PL. I do know he is very highly rated by the club, so I would not be surprised to see a bit more of him this season, perhaps in the some domestic cup games.

In order to be successful we can’t really on just signing players, we need to bring some through the ranks too, and I think both Howe and Ashworth know this very well.

    This lad is real quality.
    Any reservation?
Well he has not played for a year so the medical must be thorough.
I would prefer a left back and centre back before a right back.
But the squad is improving massively.
A top left back and centre back and it’s a terrific window. One of those and it’s still very good.
Good enough to challenge top 4 and run in CL.
Put it another way. This squad last season would have had a shot at the league

Mund you misread things constantly. Where have I slagged our signings. Where have a slagged off the owners?

I pointed out the same balls up as others like Jail and said congrats when the reacted so quick.

But if you think I won’t point so.ething as I see as wrong or a flaw in a player whilst still praising or not praising, you’re got the wrong man.

Looks like we go into the season with BDB as left back. He does a great job in the best defence in the league.

Its nothing to get stressed about that’s for sure. All other positions well covered.

    Roll on the new season.

Wallop Villa and snaffle something from Man City and away we go again.

Mund – love that clip of Eddie.
Ten Haag being a pratt getting called out. Fcuk that nob i say. Him, Klipp and Arteta are classless individuals.

Munster – I don’t care about the nationality, that doesn’t make much sense to me. We’ve all read rumours about that too but there were rumours about Maddison and Diaby and they came to nothing.

It’s possible that a top centre half is signed who can replace Schar once he’s bedded into the team (i.e. this season) but I’ll also be very happy if we sign a more promising centre half who can slot in when needed and compete to take Schar’s place later on.

ACL rebuilds are tough. They take a bit of hamstring. 2 things to note:-
    1. you are slightly slower
    2. You are more likely to get a hamstring injury.

Yes, I did have one. I will await his medical and then see him in a Toon Army strip at St. James’. Anything else is still speculation.

Taco – if we sign this guy, I don’t think it changes anything from the PL squad as I don’t think he needs to be registered. But he would for Europe so there’s complexities there for sure. I don’t think Howe will want any of our top players missing out on the CL squad so I suspect that will be for players like Ritchie, Krafth, and maybe even Lascelles.
