Newcastle Are Close To Signing One Of Our Top Summer Targets – Deal Has Just Been Agreed!

There will be an announcement soon that Newcastle’s 21-year-old right-back Harrison Ashby will move to Swansea on loan for the coming season and wear the number 30 shirt for The Swans. the same number he wears on Tyneside.

That will be a good move for Ashby as the lad needs games to become a better and more experienced player at Newcastle.

Newcastle have seemed willing to let Ashby leave and that begs the question of whether things are looking up for our long summer pursuit of Southampton 20-year-old right-back Tino Livramento.

The recruitment team at Newcastle are meticulous and would hardly let Ashby leave unless someone else was coming in to fill the gap.

We do of course have Emil Krafth coming back from an ACL injury and he was outstanding for us in the second half of the season before last, when Kieran Trippier was out injured.

The Swedish International played so well in that famous run-in to that season when we escaped relegation and finished in 11th place.

In our final 18 games of the season from 22nd January, we won 12 and drew one for a massive 37 points, – unbelievable given we had only 7 points (7 draws) from our first 14 games.

Did I say it was just unbelievable!

And news today that Tino Livramento is not expected to travel for the Saints’ first Championship game at Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow night.

So maybe we will soon have a breakthrough in our pursuit of the very talented right back who is highly thought of by Newcaste’s Sporting Director Dan Ashworth.

Dan is nothing if not persistent when he wants to sign a player.

News is that the Saints want around £50M for their player and Newcastle recently had a £30M bid turned down so perhaps something closer to £40M can be agreed to – by both clubs?

We will have to wait and see, but it’s clear Newcastle think this lad can become an excellent player for us if we can get him in and under the coaching of Eddie Howe.

And in fact as I finished the article news is coming through from a number of sources that Newcastle have indeed agreed a deal for Livramento, who was very keen to join our club.

Sky Sports have just reported that a deal has been agreed between Newcastle and the Saints for Tino Livramento.

The agreed to fee is somewhere between £35M and £40M, so he doesn’t come cheap.

And that means that Sandro Tonali (£52M), Harvey Barnes (£38M) and now Tino Lavramento (let’s say £40M) have cost Newcastle around £130M this summer.

What do you think about all of this?

Comments are always welcome.

I haven’t written off Spurs either. Good manager Postecoglou. Modern and a serial winner, and they are reshaping, with his type of players, and will either have Kane, or 90 million to spend to replace him.

FtC, totally agree on not being disappointed. We are now a firmly established PL team. Period. We’re coming off over a decade of worrying about relegation. Would I be disappointed if we dropped out of the top-10? Sure, a bit. I don’t see it happening.

We’re building a side 22 players deep. The owners are clearly committed. We can easily win a cup this year, given the depth we’ve built. I also have pretty reasonable hopes that we will spring some surprising CL results. We were the 4th best team in the world’s best league. There’s no reason we’ll be outclassed in the CL.

I believe we’ll finish top-4 again. But I won’t be disappointed if we don’t – unless it’s due to unfortunate injuries, which we can’t control.

I think there have been some Geordies doing fellow Geordies a disservice today. The north east (and especially Newcastle) is a fabulous place to live and visit with many lovely and warm people but it has its bad areas and bad people like anywhere else. It’s also not for everyone. This “everyone is out to get us” attitude that some people have is just unbecoming.

You think you get a feel for what people think of you from living in Newcastle and reading articles about Newcastle or Newcastle United that you found on NewsNow? Absolute bollox. Ask someone who doesn’t live in Newcastle what real people think of our club, Newcastle, or the north east. Sure, there will be some who don’t know much about the culture up there but many who do.

Of course some in the media will be against Newcastle United because we’re competition for their club. Just as there’s loads of anti Man Utd or Liverpool stuff said on Toon sites. Go on the BBC Sport Newcastle United page and see how many positive or negative articles there are about us in the last year…

TDS – you were not born and bred in this area -so your views on whether some people (note some -not all as you have twisted) is quite frankly irrelevant/not honestly informed.

Your views on any bias towards this area or the club really can only be those of a visiting tourist.
I really fail to see why you want to dispute/argue this point when really you have never experienced it as you are not an innate Tynesider/Geordie/Northumbrian etc whilst still being a Toon fan.

Mister Tuff – ever considered how biased you might be FOR the area and therefore fair and balanced articles come across as biased against? I’m obviously biased towards Newcastle United and I do really like Newcastle and the north east though.

It’s unbecoming because most people I meet are happy for Toon fans and think the north east is a beautiful place but some on here prefer to make out that the majority are against our club and think the north east is a backwater. It’s simply not true.

I have a feeling Livramento will be our last signing or at least we wont see another over 21 signing without another first team outgoing… As we have 25 over 21 players if you exclude, fraser, hayden and hendrick. If that’s the case I think its fair enough and we have a strong enough squad to compete.

Delighted with another signing but have we spent too much on 3 players? €151m on 3 players 2 of which wont start every game is a lot.

If we could sign 3 more players a RW, LB,CB then id be confident we could hold onto 4th spot. But i just cant see where the rest of the money is going to come from.

Relying on Burn/Targett and Miggy/Murphy for another season is a big ask imo.

I think it’s fair to say that the vast majority of posters, Geordies, Northumberland, Mackems and whatever other north-easterners get why you’re saying what you’re saying.

Yes, the world at large does speak highly of the North East of England and its people but and this is a BIG BUT (upper case especially for you Vask and Pug), but I’d suggest that you and the rest of the country doesn’t get is that the area and its people still feel the effect of years of neglect. We’re sick of being the country’s wasteland. Newcastle United is flying the flag for the Geordie nation and it’s causing ripples among those who have been used to being at the UK’s top table.

Newcastle United has arrived so the rest of the country best get used to it and show the good people of the area that we’ve every reason to be proud.of it.

We’ve all got an opinion on how Livramento ties in with Trips. Mine is that Trips will play all the CL games and we’ll start to see him withdrawn around 55/60 mins in league games, Tino will start the odd game. I don’t think Trips will start mantra at LB snd I don’t think it’s the plan to have him as a LB going forward. (Note I haven’t said anyone who thinks that needs to blah blah) it’s just my opinion and time will tell.

I think yer right Raj. By all accounts the kid is happy to play second fiddle and slowly get over his injury. Tripps is partial to the odd stinker so when this does happen you bring on the kiddo.

Would like to see Tonali take deadballs in this Sela cup, he has a wicked delivery. Better than Tripps.

At the highest price level (think this will give most chance if getting one) if anyone on the blog wants to supply membership number and second name i could add to my friends and family if one spare ever comes up. TDS,

I never once mentioned news now (assuming I am lumped in to your post). I clearly said I’ve heard commentators, and “respected” journalists push the narrative about big players never wanting to come to Newcastle because of the North East. It’s happened for years, and still happens now.

These are people responsible for communicating with a mass audience pushing a negative narrative about the region, not a bunch of tourists that have actually been here before.

Manchester and Liverpool are the last places you would want to play football. The players mostly live in isolation in Cheshire and then turn up at the grounds which are like second rate airports.

London is part tourist central, part grimey, polluted sprawling suburbs.

At least in Newcastle players and their families can be part of a community and have a quality of life few places can match, but their wages makes a difference wherever they choose to live.

Dazzler – but there will be players who don’t want to go to the north east. It’s a different lifestyle there and so many wealthy young men will prefer to be in a bigger city, especially London. Think about kids growing up in other countries 20 years ago, they’d see London on the TV a lot and they’d be aware of globally huge football clubs in Man Utd and Liverpool but they wouldn’t hear much about Newcastle or Newcastle United. Now, perhaps that’s different for kids growing up now…they’ll see us in the CL and that will expose them to our club and also the city.

If you ask the majority of young men whether they’d prefer to live in London, Paris, Rome, or Madrid as opposed to Newcastle or an equivalent in those countries, they’d pick the capital city.

That’s just reality. Lesh is right with his earlier post, Newcastle United can be a flagship to sell the virtues of the area as well as the club. But it’s not for everyone and that’s just fine by me.
