Newcastle depends what you want out of life
Which other city offers you within half an hour – beaches, Hadrians Wall, Northumberland, Durham- easy City to get in and out by car – metro system – loads of excellent eating and drinking establishments, Metro Centre Posh hoooses for the players to live rent ie Darras Hall
    What more do you want
Pity Northumberland Street is a mess why the coooooncil let the utility companies dig up the pavements then fill the hole and tarmac it instead of replacing the pavements.

Check – I was born and brought up in the north so you can stick that in your pipe and smoke it. 😉

I don’t give a stuff about any of this north/south divide though. Some northerners don’t shut up about how crap the south is and some southerners don’t shut up about how crap the north is. All utter garbage. Both and south are both fantastic areas to live in, just depends on the specific area and what you want from life. I bloody loved living in London in my late 20s but was very glad to leave in my early 30s and can’t envisage moving back there. Still a great place to visit though. Would I move back to Newcastle? I’d certainly not rule that out, though I do like the warmer weather darn sarf…better for golf! 🙂

I remember oasis coming to the Riverside, then proclaiming to be the hardest band in the world… Guess what happened next?

    Oh! How we laughed!

    😀

One of ’ems ex-p weller guitars didn’t make it, either.
More southerners forgetting to be polite in a proper northern Toon.

Neither condemning nor condoning, just regaling.

TDS, I am thinking of Whitley Bay and links golf. How it should be played. In winter with horizontal hail coming at you.

The Rabbit is hell bent on moving there, I just haven’t told her that there is a golf course right behind 🙂

Turbine still in the Exhibition Park? Is that still there. I used to go there and the Hancock Museum all the time. When I wasn’t in a swimming pool or library.

Even went through the ehm! channels in Vindoolanda. It was a hot day. I was told it was for grain storage. I know better now!

Despite the many good things about Tyneside and its neighbouring areas, there aren’t too many top top players living here compared with the number of big names living in or around Manchester, Liverpool and London.

Big name players probably want to mix with others and thus may find living in those areas more attractive.

thats because they have been buying the leagues since the 60s though, remember they are the ones who are trying there best to keep us in check into buying our own title

end of the day all clubs buy players to win the title just these days top so called toxic 6 dont want there house torn down do they

    Nashers

Whether their employing clubs have been buying the titles or not, top players likely want to mix with top players and if there’s a big pool to mix with, then they surely will want to.

Anyway, it’s hardly a major issue is it.

And….. since you mentioned John Holmes, he teamed up with Alphonse Reyrolle who’d come to Tyneside to make HV switchgear. As you said, CA Parsons was making turbines and the growth of Tyneside’s industrial base required electricity and it’s generation and control equipment. Hence the growth of what became major employers in Parsons and Reyrolle, each employing over 12,000 in their peak years. And then came Thatcher and the rest’s history.

Been to Liverpool a few times, its alright- scousers are friendly enough although I can’t understand a normal person wanting to live there ahead of Newcastle… bit of a shithole if you ask me.
I can understand players moving there or Manchester because of history of the clubs over the basket case that was newcastle united … things will turn once we’ve won the league and ECL a couple of times – we’re probably never going to have the pull of London for obvious reasons but we have a better city than Liverpool or Manchester… just having a history of the beatles ( who most young uns barely know ) is hardly cultural ..
    Anyway, my 2 pennorth

Referencing the likes of Manchester, Liverpool as the North has long got on my wick! Divide England into three portions and even then, they’re more mid country than north. For me, the north of England starts at about Leeds and thereabouts.

Legolas, you were lucky. I got a speeding ticket there, doing 60 in a 50 on an empty dual carriage way. Buggers had one mobile camera van, got past that, then another 1/2 mile down the road. Suckered!

2nd of September I get to survive 2 hours of sanctimonious rubbish. A speed awareness course? I knew how fast I was driving!

Much better having a day out there with nature as opposed to getting poisoned with car fumes in London.
