Comment #81You can see why Soton wanted top dollar for Livramento if they have to give a massive chunk of it to Chelsea, £15m apparently. He’s never even played for Chelsea.
These “sell on” clauses that allow clubs like Chelsea to effectively still partly own a player that they have sold to another club need to be looked at. It’s essentially inflating the price of players and not really helping the smaller clubs get full value.

Ripon is north, maybe.
Leeds is south…i tell my mates from there, that they can apply for ‘honourary’ membership.
Mancs hate it when they realise that they’re north midlanders…scousers normally laugh and agree. 😀

Comment #84Potts, if not then the smaller club could not afford to buy them. Essentially a loan period with option to buy. Works for both clubs or one wouldn’t do it.

Comment #95Charlie…you seem to be forgetting the only real measure as to whether someone has joined us or not is the CHAPS measure…and I transferred 8 million yesterday…so yes…he’s now a toon player…signed, sealed and delivered courtesy of LS
You heard it here last 😉
sheikh rattle and thanks to ASM!
£15 million left to spend…so that’s between £60-70 million of buying power.

Comment #98TCPN – most of the things you’ve said about the NE are generally more attractive to older people rather than wealthy 20 somethings. It’s been said by me and others today that it’s each to their own. There will be plenty of young footballers who want the buzz of London or perhaps the music scene and club history of Man Utd or Liverpool. As also pointed out, some will want proximity to other top footballers and I don’t think that any Sunderland or Boro players count these days…
Some people on here are forgetting that the job isn’t convincing people from the NE that Newcastle is a great place to live, it’s convincing people from Milan, Eindhoven, or Seville that the NE is a great place to be. This isn’t a challenge because some football pundits point out that it’s a challenge, it’s a challenge because of the reality of the situation.
Something our owners said when they took over was that they wanted to use their ownership of the club to help develop the area. Bloody fantastic.

Obvious questions here.
1. Do you have binoculars (L7) and some money?
2. Do you have a little money but can nearly see the pitch?
3. Do you have no money left but have a good view?
I am happy you got a ticket. It should have been issued last week or even earlier to allow us “foreigners” to book cheaper transport and hotels.
I see no reason they can’t do the ballot for the whole season now. People drop out, the ticket goes into the pool.

Comment #111I’ve done lots of work in Factories in the North East over the years and just about every large industrial estate to the west of the A19 is pretty much toon territory…with maybe the bit between Nissan and Washington an exception…but everything south of there to Harrogate is all toon territory.
Everyone south of there are of course southern Jessies!…except of course Sir P! 😉

Comment #116The way Newcastle are timing their announcements makes me believe they are being ultra transparent with their transfer and FFP dealings and won’t announce new players until a current player has been shipped out.
Now that Ashby move to Swansea is official, Livramento announcement will follow shortly

Being down in Surrey, they consider Watford in the far north. So I respond with anything south of the Tyne as being the far south. No intentional annoyance to we who live or were born south of the Tyne (Toon General for me). It is astonishing how many people in Surrey don’t even know where Newcastle is. (Clue? New South Wales) lol. I have done that several times.

It’s all tacit prejudice against the NE, isn’t it?
..and actually, decades outta date shoite, at that!
As someone whose lived away from the area most of my life now, i’m always pleasantly surprised how lovely, lively, and liveable it is these days.
So these old fashioned stereotypes about this area or that are fair game to be shot down, imv. The music scene in the north midlands is dull as £@&k, btw.
Also, all the best and coolest parts of LDN aren’t what they were, either.
As someone that travels between Toon/NE, Manc, Brum, among others, while living in C LDN, i have a pretty up to date view of said places.

Comment #119Arguing that Botman apparently chose us over Milan (we have no idea if that’s true as we don’t know what Milan actually offered) is no more an argument to say players are happy to choose Newcastle over more “glamorous” cities than arguing that Ekitike choosing Parks ahead of Newcastle proves the opposite.
Such a silly argument as it’s demonstrably true that players sometimes go to other clubs because they prefer the city it’s based in or because of the greater history of its football club. Face it, Liverpool and Man Utd have that greater pull because they’re massive global names. London, Paris, Madrid etc. all have greater pull because they’re massive cities. There’s also the weather to consider!
Don’t understand the problem some people have with this. The owners and the recruitment team will know the selling points and the challenges when they’re going after players.
