Newcastle played well this afternoon and beat a very decent Fiorentina side 2-0 in the Sela Cup and we have the video highlights of what turned out to be a good performance from the lads.
It was good to get a clean sheet with Martin Dubravka in goal for the whole game.
Here is the team Newcastle started today:
Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka; Kieran Trippier, Alex Murphy, Sven Botman, Matt Targett; Lewis Miley, Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson; Miguel Almirón, Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon.
Substitutes: Mark Gillespie, Jude Smith, Remi Savage, Charlie McArthur, Jordan Hackett, Nathan Carlyon, Jamie Miley, Lucas De Bolle, James Huntley, Jay Turner-Cooke, Ben Parkinson, Amadou Diallo, Michael Ndiweni.
Newcastle had some chances in the first half and finally went ahead with a goal in the 38th minute.
That man Miguel Almiron scored again, after some great work from Alexander Isak, who looks like he will start up front against Aston Villa next weekend, at the expense of Callum Wilson.
On another day we could have had more goals but we finally went further ahead late in the game, after 82 minutes, when Isak headed home strongly to give Newcastle a very good 2-0 win.
One good thing about today’s game is that both Lewis Miley and Elliot Anderson had good games in central midfiled, and that’s a massive bonus for Eddie Howe.
The central three – with Italaian Internationa Sandro Tonali, played very well in the engine room.
And I would be surprised if Newcastle bring in another central midiflder this summer, we hardly need one.
We do need a pacey right footed center-back, however.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting today Newcastle are now interested in signing center back Joachim Anderson from Crystal POalace, after we sign Tino Lavramento, who is now in Newcastle – hopefully signing along the bottom line soon.
Lavramento was in the Director’s box today watchuing the game.
Cetsral Palace’s center-back Anderson very rarely gives the ball away and the reliable 27-year-old Danish International, who stands 6ft 4ins tall, can play either left or right central defense.
A game against Villareal tomorrow is next on the agenda, so it’s all go this weekend for Eddie Howe’s PL squad.
The Premier League season finally kicks off next weekend and we play at home to a strong looking Aston Villa side: it will be a tough opener for us.
Here are the highlights of today’s game.

Comment #125TPM, are you watching the Tony Bennett evening on BBC 2? If not it’s on iPlayer, TB at the Palladium, TB’s New York, TB sings his personal hit songbook, song stories and finally TB BBC Sessions.
In other news, still no sign of the match on Footyful.com. 🙁 Not a happy bunny.

Comment #126i don’t think Anderson and Gordon will be regular first choice picks as they haven’t quite got what it takes.

Comment #131Anderson, Miley, Murphy………………wow! How long is it since we had such riches coming through from youth? This is absolutely fabulous (and FFP can’t touch us for it!)
ps How much is FFP responsible for us keeping solid (but much lower-class) citizens Dummett and Ritchie on our books? Is this a ploy?

Comment #134DK This is great news. I knew a season or more back EA was the real deal (highly respected judge a Bristol Rovers fan, never misses) but Miley and Murphy on top sounds fantastic.
I’ve noticed most top clubs manage to bring real high-class talent through the ranks, and I’ve also noted, sadly, how NUFC have an appalling record in this respect. The wheel seems to be turning here – on top of all the stunning headlines – these are truly blessed times for us after all we’ve had to put up with – hurrah!

Comment #136My predicted lineup for tomorrow would be…
Pope
Manquillo – Lacelles – Burn/Dummett – Dummett/Burn
Longstaff – Bruno – Joelinton
Murphy Wilson Barnes
Though Ritchie might well drop into it either left back or midfield.

Comment #137We probably have plenty of talent over here. One of my neighbours kids was fkin brilliant and he went to Burnley but hasn’t come through yet, but I heard that Murphy was noted as a calm player here, tough physically, but articulate and intelligent. The bonkers thing is that if Ireland didn’t have the GAA taking so many players from soccer and rugby, we’d be punching higher again. But the GAA is mega here, and wonderful.

Comment #138I also think our Premier league 25 man squad is pretty much nailed on…. as excluding hayden, hendricks and fraser we have 25 over 21 years players. Though we do have 4 goal keepers in that which is a bit excessive. However it seems that Karius and Gillespie are happy to take a back seat for the time being. Though with 3 cup competitions there might be opportunities.
Eddie mention in the press conference the other day 2 more in. Tino is one so the other if over 21 might push Gillespie out of the premier league squad, however I feel he knows his place and is just happy to be part of his boyhood team.
There may also be another sanctioned exit which isn’t one of the exiles. I could see Manquillo going potentially or also there was rumours of Lacelles heading out.

Sorry, but Eddie has already stated, that Lascelles will be club captain for the upcoming season.
I know he’s a bit of a fibber in his pressers but if we sell Lascelles in this window,I’m a fan of CH’s shite banta….

Comment #140Good results for a make shift team and not the starting eleven.
Happy to see Eddie giving some of the younger lads a chance to shine.
Good result for the Lady Mags may they go on and battle for the league.
Only game really on my radar is Villa, we win that and it’s off to the races, we owe them a beating.
Howay the Toon.
Good luck to all the FPL players.

Munsterlini had just about seen enough to talk about how this side was getting a reality check and wasn’t ready for Europe.
Meanwhile, Almiron scored a goal while he was typing.
IrishRob would have been proud of that foot-in-mouth moment.

I’ve seen your “I’m in” post but you don’t appear in Ed’s main league on FPL.
If you’re registered on FPL with a team name and/or a manager name that refers to your blog name, please join ‘Ed Harrison’s fantasy league’ using the code hm9r79
Once you’ve got that sorted we’ll try to get you in H2H D3

Comment #16036K in the end, not bad but Man U sold out their friendly yesterday. A mixture of two games in two days, digital ticketing and slight over pricing, still much better than the 22K-ish we got under Fatty.
