Eddie Howe’s Press Conference And Heartfelt Message To The People Of Newcastle After A Successful Preseason

Eddie Howe held his press conference after the excellent 4-0 win over Villareal this afternoon at home, and that’s 3 wins in a row in our last 3 games of the preseason, during which we didn’t lose a game.

In 7 preseason games, we won four and drew three.

We also won both Sela Cup games yesterday (against Fiorentina) and today to win the inaugural Sela Cup.

Here’s the video of Howe’s press conference in which he says the deal for Tino Lavramento is still not done.

Howe also says he is determined to win something for the people of Newcastle – that’s at around 8 minutes 40 seconds of the video.

A good press conference from the Newcastle coach, who seems to improve so many of our players due to his excellent coaching and motivational skills.

Comments are always welcome.

Just watched the highlights, some good goals.

Barnes certainly is accurate, tries to hit it hard and low across the keeper.
Wilson and Isak will get some tap ins no doubt when the keeper gets something on them Barnes shots.

    Fully acceptable pre-season

Who know’s what wor Eddie’s starting 11 for Villa will be. This shit’s just got really, really interesting 😆

The Saudis now want Mo Salah
    Please make it so.
Worth it just to hear Klopp’s reaction.

Looks like any decent player over 29 is now fair kop for a pay day in the football wilderness.

Best bet is to produce youngsters and buy under 25’s to get 5 years out of them before trade in and scrappage schemes kick in.

What I was actually asking for was to see the highlights of the other SELA cup games that did not involve Newcastle! 🙄

    My attempt at Eddie bingo.

    Pope
    Trippier Lascelles Botman Burn
    Longstaff Bruno Joelinton
    Murphy Isak Gordon

    Assuming all are fit.

Who he has on the bench is going to be a tough guess.

Talking of shit…Sky are full of it

Apparently we didn’t play today yet alone win according to their results pages.

They also dedicated acres of space to their beloved manTown club, pages of shit. Talk about man love, they excelled themselves with so much drivel.

However I don’t see your need, as we won everything and drink Carling from the trophy 😆

As egb alluded to, people possibly missed the last part of Martoon’s predictions post:

“NOTE in previous years I have missed poster’s predictions so this year to save me having to hunt for prediction posts could you all post your predictions in the comments section of here:-

    Almiron Wilson Isak

Very difficult though and easy shouts for Murphy, Longstaff, Andersen, Gordon, Barnes to be included

Awesome to see the depth we are beginning to create. Clear we need more at CB and would be great to have more quality in left back but the rest of our positions have good depth

There’s a nice piece on us in the BBC on our friendly yesterday which I understand will upset the “oh poor me brigade” unfortunately the article does exist and makes for canny reading.

    AP,
Eddie H has made it clear he knows what position needs strengthening but won’t say out of respect for current players (in that position) we would have to assume he means either CB or LB, more likely CB I think, although BDB hasn’t got that attacking element to his game he was absolutely solid last season.

Can I ask why we are writing off Matt Targett as an option, he was very reliable in that first season, so much so the club spent £15M on him, excellent play helped set up Bruno’s excellent winner against Leicester and he never put a foot wrong. Is it because he couldn’t dislodge BDB from the team we now think he’s not good enough.

Enjoyed the pre-season games. Some points worth noting, when Mr & Mrs Milley got together, it was no bad thing. Ritchie, Dummett, and Lascelles all looked sharp. Tonali will take a bit of time to get used to PL, so don’t expect to see him starting many games yet, but think EH will bring him through the same way he did Bruno, and lastly, I would hate to be the person responsible for picking a starting 11 out of our lot. We look in decent shape for the year ahead. Not expecting a top 4 finish, maybe top 6-8? However as a mate of mine pointed out recently, his prediction is we drop out of CL at Group Stage, drop into the Europa L, win it, then back in CL next season!

    G,
I think it all depends who we get in our group, two big guns and we might struggle but if we get a kinder group I think we can get out of it, Leicester got out of theirs after losing key players.

    Starting XI this Saturday

    Pope
    Trippier Schar Botman Burn
    Joelinton Bruno Tonali/Anderson
    Migi Isak Gordon/Barnes

The lhs midfield is the conundrum, I reckon the rest of the team picks itself.

Regarding predictions, who’s everybody fancying for the drop, and the sack race?

I think Luton, Wolves, and Sheff Utd for the drop, and David Moyes to be Sack Race winner.

There seemed to be a few people sticking the boot into Lascelles yesterday – one mistake he made all game – one. He was solid all game beyond that. Same with Dummett. I think these players get pelters just because it’s the fashionable thing to do. A bit like Longstaff until he made a mug of everyone slagging him off.

Aye neither are the best players in our squad but neither had bad games yesterday either.

I think Longstaff will get the nod ahead of Tonali and Anderson, and it’s the toss of a coin between Gordon and Barnes, Wilson and Isak, and Burn and Targett. Pope, Trippier, Schar, Botman, Bruno, Joel and Miggy pick themselves, if fit.

    I quite like this 11…..

    …………………….Pope…
    Trippier….Schar……Botman….Targett.
    ……………………Bruno.
    …….Longstaff…………..Joelinton.
    …Almiron……….Isak…………..Barnes.

Brentford are in the clarts with Toney and his lengthy ban. I expect them to be in a relegation battle until he comes back.

Fulham have replaced Mitro (before he leaves) with a like for like player – so assuming they’ve strengthened I think they should be OK.

Everton have been playing that old Villa / Sunderland role of somehow surviving for years despite looking gone – it eventually stops working in your favour, and I reckon they could well go down this season. Luton and Sheff Utd to be the other two IMO.

Agreed Dazzler. Think our old-guard did very well pre-season. As did the youngsters whom played, most have impressed. I would hate us to throw them in the Prem just yet, but theres a good few of them that will have given EH something to think about.

There ALWAYS has to be a scapegoat/scratching post/whipping boy or 2, doesn’t there?
The less fashionable usually get it. Lascelles, Krafth, Dummett, a.n.other Geordie, first player to miss/make a mistake.
Nowt will change on that one, mate.
