Eddie Howe’s Press Conference And Heartfelt Message To The People Of Newcastle After A Successful Preseason

Eddie Howe held his press conference after the excellent 4-0 win over Villareal this afternoon at home, and that’s 3 wins in a row in our last 3 games of the preseason, during which we didn’t lose a game.

In 7 preseason games, we won four and drew three.

We also won both Sela Cup games yesterday (against Fiorentina) and today to win the inaugural Sela Cup.

Here’s the video of Howe’s press conference in which he says the deal for Tino Lavramento is still not done.

Howe also says he is determined to win something for the people of Newcastle – that’s at around 8 minutes 40 seconds of the video.

A good press conference from the Newcastle coach, who seems to improve so many of our players due to his excellent coaching and motivational skills.

Comments are always welcome.

    Clint,

I wonder if that’s true of every club. The thing that blows my mind is that we have people picking fault with defenders following a 4-0 win – The players didn’t concede yesterday, but they were somehow shite šŸ˜€

It’s noticeable how often we cry on for “one of our own” to do the business but how fast they are launched under the bus the minute they don’t meet ridiculous standards set by a bunch of fat blokes who’ve never kicked a ball in their life.

Probably true re: other clubs fickle fans, mate.
Super sad re: our defensive team.
    It’s like some weird sin/obsession.
But, probably, no matter what level of quality we achieve over the next few years, someone will not be good enough.
Defenders can seem dull, yet very effective, but that still ain’t enough.

dazzler@42. TV fans mate, when people don’t see the whole picture they completely miss the off-the-ball contributions and work rates involved. Theres a fella at work who insists Longstaff & Willock are amongst the worst midfielders he’s seen in his life? He then sites lack of goals as evidence, without seeming to understand that both players roles have changed significantly under EH. I refer to this gent as a TV fan, as when I ask him when the last time he regularly attended games was, he says when Keegan was in charge. The first time.

Bruno back to being mint yesterday.

Think Tonali will start at weekend. Its why he played with Tripps and Miggy in Saturday, building up relationships down that right channel. Sean was not upto speed yesterday. Couldnt get thru 90minutes.

Pope, Tripps, Lascelles, Botman, Burn, Tonali, Bruno, Big Joe, Miggy, Isak, Gordon.

Until they just stop the clock, there’ll be problematic thinking about time wasting.
The committment to lack of transparency is quite unnerving, isn’t it?

    G,

I disregard anyone who doesn’t see how vital Longstaff is to our midfield almost immediately, I don’t even give them an opportunity to justify their position anymore šŸ˜€

Willock in 22/23 was Howe’s pet project IMO (like big Joe in 21/22), the level of improvement to his overall game is insane over the last 12 months. Until his injury he was sailing towards an England call up, hopefully he can pick up where he left off.

The thing with added time is that it is entirely arbitrary and no-one knows how long is left in the game until the 90th minute when the 4th official holds up the board.
In general, it will be good thing as we will see players just getting on with the game instead of attempting to run down the clock. However there has to be an independent timekeeper with the match clock clearly visible to the players, coaches and supporters.

G; It has nowt to do with TV supporters. I watched every match on TV last season and it is clear to see the contributions Longstaff and Willock made to the team.
I reckon your workmates issues lie elsewhere. They both could do with brushing up on their finishing though.

    Novo,

Same – I didn’t get to a single game last season, watched 99% of them though and I don’t get what people don’t see.

I don’t often find myself paraphrasing a gravy guzzling conman but here we are: If they were called Longstaffio and Willockinho that same “fan” would be ripping the head off it to them.

Mund, didn’t get to the ground but watched match courtesy of Redifusion but in Black & White, which has long been my favourite colour combination. šŸ˜‰

The black panther as he was known had a pretty good game but 1966 was notorious for the best players getting literally ā€œkickedā€ out of the tournament. Some of the tackles would have got you a jail sentence for assault these days. šŸ˜€

Eusebio and Pele both suffered. Our group game against Uruguay should have been x rated it was so bad.

.com had him at both matches – I am sure I saw a photo on their website of him at the Fiorentina match.

Glad it’s all but done now, and that the medical staff are happy with his ACL injury/recovery.

£32m is a half decent price for a 20 year old English player who could/should be playing for his country soon enough.

Here’s my Eddie bingo team for Villa.

    Pope,
    Trippier, Lascelles, Botman, Targett
    Tonali, Bruno, Joelinton
    Miggy, Isak, Gordon.

    During match,
Lascelles will make way for A. Murphy
    Tonali for Longstaff &
Gordon for Barnes. All at about 65 mins

    Targett for Burns &
Isak for Wilson will happen approx 80mins

Anderson will come on as well for a Cameo, replacing Joelinton who will get a standing ovation for his contribution including 2 goals.

    You heard it here! šŸ˜†

Fantastic buy, he’ll be great for us. Dazz agree re willock and lobby.
I wrote a bit re Lobby last year , think it was after the arsenal game away but cud be wrong. He cleverness off the ball was something else. And Willock is just the man. Probably my sons fav player too. I don’t know if it’s possible to have a fav anymore, as we have such good guys in the shirt, but Willock and Joel would be mine. Then Isak Miggy and Bruno and Lobby šŸ™‚

I think we’ll get one more. Maybe the rcb. Anderson is interesting but I’m not sure he’s better than Schar. Very similar, and looks about the same pace wise, which isn’t great . Lots of other qualities but I’m wondering if he wud just bolster us, but not add speed in central defence?

    Munster,

Pretty much all of Lobby’s game is spot on for the role Howe plays him in, he’s not the quickest but he makes up for it by reading the game and knowing where to be, and when. His catch and release is great too – he always breaks up play, retains the ball and plays it forward – it’s rare he makes a challenge and doesn’t come away with the ball at his feet.

Willock is the opposite IMO, he has pace to burn but isn’t as clever at reading a game. However, it doesn’t matter as he’s rapid so can make up any lost ground easily. Once he’s passed you there’s only two options: give up or concede a foul – it makes him one of our most dangerous players on the counter.

Both need to work on their shooting, but then again nobody is perfect šŸ™‚
