Eddie Howe’s Press Conference And Heartfelt Message To The People Of Newcastle After A Successful Preseason

Eddie Howe held his press conference after the excellent 4-0 win over Villareal this afternoon at home, and that’s 3 wins in a row in our last 3 games of the preseason, during which we didn’t lose a game.

In 7 preseason games, we won four and drew three.

We also won both Sela Cup games yesterday (against Fiorentina) and today to win the inaugural Sela Cup.

Here’s the video of Howe’s press conference in which he says the deal for Tino Lavramento is still not done.

Howe also says he is determined to win something for the people of Newcastle – that’s at around 8 minutes 40 seconds of the video.

A good press conference from the Newcastle coach, who seems to improve so many of our players due to his excellent coaching and motivational skills.

Comments are always welcome.

Sean was off the boil yesterday, seems a bit behind fitness wise. Out of sorts.

Think Tonali will be in next week. Could be wrong tho. Still searching for that elusive golden ticket..

I hope he’s not teaching the coaches tactics! I don’t think I’ve met a mackem who enjoyed the Ross style of football. Some of my Mackem mates described him as a Scottish Pardew 😀

I think we’re all agreed that we need a young RCB to replace Schar at some point.
We also need a young potentially World Class LB at some point.

However, none of this can be achieved in one transfer window, largely due to FFP.

As I said yesterday, I wouldn’t be too bothered to start this campaign with what we’ve got.

We’ve got a World Class goalie with good cover
We’ve probably (when all fit and bedded in) got the best midfield in Football with amazing depth.
We’ve got excellent wingers for both sides & 2 x top strikers (one of which we’ll need cover for at some point).
We’ve got a great defence already that needs a youth injection as stated above.
Alex Murphy although naturally left footed can play RCB as he showed on Saturday. He is a natural understudy for Botman, but as we’ve already got Burn there & Dummet, he could save us a fortune over the next 12 x Months by being 3rd. Choice RCB until next Summer.

That leaves us with 1 x key position LB. I think patience is required here. We need to get the next “best LB in the World”, so if it’s not obvious who this may be yet, we can play this season with Targett, knowing we’ve got Burn as automatic back up + options of switching Tripps etc.
We don’t (in my opinion) need to go out and buy a LB right now. If the right player exists for our future development, sure go and buy him, but if not I don’t think it’s crucial at least not yet!

Above all else, we have to remember that our “project” is still only 22Months old and realistically about 18 months since we made our 1st purchase. This is only our 4th Window.

    Patience paduan. 😀

Clint – didnt think they were that bad. We were just as ‘clumsy’. Sean didnt half clatter into one of their lads.

Seeing the lads so happy to be back at the Toon and St James’s was cool.

Was an all round good day out, lots of younguns getting a first trip out to the toon. Strawberry Corner sang a bit an all.

Think that Standing section will create a constant noise this year. Should lob one in the Leazes corner an all.

Jack Ross , so far as I’m able to ascertain is not “coaching” any players.

His job function is to supervise all the coaching staff through all the Academy levels to ensure that there is a coordinated approach to teaching all the kids from juniors up to U21’s the Eddie way to play.

So long as he’s ensuring the coaches teach the kids the Eddie way to play and not the Jack Ross way to play.

I like Targett to me he just still looks a little rusty but as we have seen previously he can perform to a good level I think its also taking him a while to get used to this high line that we play now so there is always the danger he gets caught out

But then Trippier gets caught out so many times he got destroyed by Watkins last season so he isn’t totally invincible either

Targett does use possession well though I imagine having Joelinton and Barnes/Gordon on his side we will see a lot of chances being created this season so all of our action isn’t on the right hand side

Burn as well has shown he can do a job you also get that extra ingredient with him being a geordie all pumped up gives him an extra 10 or 15% performance over other options

We have already seen how difficult it is to get rid of players from the Ashley era so if the club don’t think the right player is available it would be better not to just buy someone for the sake of it

We’re apparently talking to the agents of Anderson @ CP. according to Romano.

Not sure I want this but for purely selfish reasons. It’s bad enough having 2 x Murphy’s, but to have 2 x Anderson’s as well is gonna confuse the sh*t out of me.

How am I gonna know who you lot are talking about? I’m an old phart and these things need to be considered, maybe we need a rule that Eddie can’t play 2 players with same name @ the same time, or during the same match, I marine the confusion if Murphy is taken off and Murphy is brought on?? WTF? 😆

    Predictions for the season?

I’m feeling a little disappointed on the transfer front, I was hoping top 4 last year would enable us to bring in a couple of world class players, guess that’s FFP so no-ones fault. I just don’t think we have improved the team by much, probably Barnes is an improvement but that’s it. Tonali may come good or could be another Viana from what i’ve seen. Tripps still likely to be first choice right back

People excited by Anderson and Miley, as we should be, but Anderson had a good pre-season last year, and Miley still very young. I don’t feel like they’re new signings!

I’d imagine Liverpool will be improved this season, and Chelsea (unclear by how much and it was a pretty low bar!). We were hanging on in the end and Man utd were pretty poor last season, I think top 6th for us this year, would absolutely love top 4, just looks very hard

Not sure it’s in Eddie’s dna to buy worldy names, mate!
    It’s more about the team.
Ffp seems to give us the perfect position to improve and build a very cohesive team/squad, rather than the usual splash for disparate names that don’t necessarily gel.
    ie manu, cfc, spurs etc.

    Shaun,

Anderson had a bang average pre-season last year IMO though was improving with each appearance, and then got hampered with little injuries that held him back.

This pre-season has reminded me of Miggy’s last year, where each game he looked better and better and took that form into the season. I think we could see similar from Anderson, and I would not be overly surprised to see him get the nod over Tonali early doors in the season to try and capture the lightening in the bottle.

I get that Clint, and I’m not bothered about ‘names’ as they’re often prima donnas, rather the proven quality. It’s a catch 22 though, with FFP it’s very hard to build over time because you need the additional revenue from getting in Champions league, commercial position being at the top will allow etc Finishing 6th etc each year will just mean further and further behind….in summary ffp is a joke and designed to keep the fat cats fat and prevent anyone else being able to catch them….ever…I hope the Saudis just do a liv golf at this point and get rid of UEFA, another Fifa and corrupt imo….rant over!
