Eddie Howe’s Press Conference And Heartfelt Message To The People Of Newcastle After A Successful Preseason

Eddie Howe held his press conference after the excellent 4-0 win over Villareal this afternoon at home, and that’s 3 wins in a row in our last 3 games of the preseason, during which we didn’t lose a game.

In 7 preseason games, we won four and drew three.

We also won both Sela Cup games yesterday (against Fiorentina) and today to win the inaugural Sela Cup.

Here’s the video of Howe’s press conference in which he says the deal for Tino Lavramento is still not done.

Howe also says he is determined to win something for the people of Newcastle – that’s at around 8 minutes 40 seconds of the video.

A good press conference from the Newcastle coach, who seems to improve so many of our players due to his excellent coaching and motivational skills.

Comments are always welcome.

I’ve never known a supposed Newcastle fan be so anti Newcastle and big up other clubs more than the club he apparently supports…

    What a donut!

TDS it’s not the topic that’s the problem, you have to have the last word on EVERY discussion you are involved in.

On this one more player that Howe’s said he’d like, I think it might end being Solet from Salzburg.

Andersen would be great, would still prefer Guehi who I am sure is right footed. only slight concern with Andersen is a lack of pace but from what I have seen his positional awareness probably makes up for that.

I had wanted to end this conversation but TDS now you have stated that you will watch it but you won’t change you mind about your opinion. Pretty inflexible that isn’t it. It is also odd as I have pointed out that normally you listen to experts/people in the know but this time you will not. But that is not as odd as having such a clearly defined opinion on something which you haven’t even seen. Surely if anyone else was doing this you would be calling them out for it.

Look at it another way. Why would one of our directors say this to his colleagues in a board meeting if he didn’t believe it was true? What possible motivation would he have to do that? Do you think there is a deleted scene where they all laugh at him and say he is wrong? If not why not?

TDS, my point is that in any negotiation there are many factors at play, not simply price. Price is just 1 x factor.

However, I do believe that in football where ownership greed is an established fact, that if someone comes along with interest in one of your players, and that someone is known to front “the wealthiest sovereign investment fund in the World”, they will try it on. Simple.

Now people, including our fellow bloggers and one of our Clubs Directors have chosen to call that a “Newcastle tax” – so what? Maybe it’s more accurately a “PIF tax”. It doesn’t need a label, but it exists. The job of the buyer is to overlook the greed and negotiate the best price they can. Eventually a price and terms that are satisfactory to both will be achieved or the deal won’t happen. That’s selling 101 and I’m sure you know this, I just don’t think it’s necessary to force it down peoples necks, corporate greed exists and it can be called whatever anyone wants to call it and in a perfect world it is overcome by sensible negotiation between parties. 😉

    @OliverKay
on Newcastle’s hierarchy meeting with Daniel Levy:

“It came on a matchday when, walking into the directors’ lounge at a rival club, the Newcastle delegation encountered their frostiest reception yet. Hands were outstretched by the visitors from Tyneside, there to be shaken, but were conspicuously ignored by one opposition director, seemingly eager to make his hostility clear.

“The episode was so awkward that the Newcastle executive on the receiving end relayed it on the insistence that identities were withheld. But it will not be forgotten in a hurry.”

If you’re reading, i’ve looked into and looks like other posters were right. Can’t transfer the ballot ticket sadly. Sorry mate.

On that note, it looks like I can’ out it up for resale or anything either. Anyone know what the refund policy is or if it’s possible to get one? It’s a shame as it feels like a ticket going to waste at this point and would prefer it to be resold to someone. Did send an e-mail on Tuesday but not had a reply about it yet.

Eddie Howe says that Newcastle United still need one more signing before they can regard the summer as the “perfect” transfer window.

With Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Tino Livarmento all on board it is now a test of whether Howe can add another defensive recruit to the squad.

Howe played down talk of an extra forward coming in last month and bigged up the role of Anthony Gordon. Howe, speaking at his pre-game press conference ahead of the Aston Villa clash, said: “You never quite know. You think you’ve got the perfect squad and you get five or six injuries. I’d love one more player, I’d love one personally. Then I think we’d have the ideal depth then.”

According to you my friends, what kind of player does he want? Which position, starter or sub, etc…?

cleveleysbob – I just heavily dislike this attitude that other clubs or the media are singling us out or are out to get us. I find it very silly to be honest and I think it’s a poor attitude to have as fans. I see it on here often the idea that other fans are as obsessed with our club as we are (albeit from a different perspective) when that’s simply not true. For most fans, we’re just another team they want their club to beat. Though obviously a minority dislike us for some reason or another.

Last comment on the topic as I’m heading out and then busy, I just don’t understand how the examples of Carroll, Perez, Hjolund, Caicedo, Pogba, Rice and many others don’t demonstrate that there have been plenty of situations where a buying club has paid above market value for a player because they needed to buy more than the other club needed to sell. If Liverpool fans (for example) were moaning about a Liverpool tax I’d tell them to STFU and stop moaning. Definitely wouldn’t show them the respect I’ve shown fellow Toon fans today…

Why would Caicedo want Chelsea over Liverpool? Money? London? Chelsea’s interest all window rather than Liverpool jumping in when they’ve exhausted other options? Thinks Chelsea have a better chance of CL than Liverpool? Much closer to Brighton?

I imagine he wouldn’t even have to move house. Could drive to Cobham training ground easily enough from Brighton.
