Eddie Howe’s Press Conference For The Aston Villa Game – He Seems Quietly Confident

Here is Eddie Howe’s press conference for our first Premier League game of the season at home to Aston Villa tomorrow afternoon at home with a 5:30pm kickoff.

Eddie comes across as open as he answers each question in his methodical way, and he’s just one impressive individual who is so good at his job of being a football manager.

Howe admits that he rarely goes into the Newcastle City Center and spends most of his time at the training ground and then at home.

Since he is a family man with a wife and three boys that’s understandable – Eddie has his priorities right.

As far as the summer transfer window, we feel that if we can bring in another center-back as cover and competition for Fabian Scar, this will have been another excellent transfer window for Newcastle.

We have brought in Sandro Tonali (£52M), Harvey Barnes (£38M), and Tino Livramento (£35M) for a total of £125M for 3 players who will be part of the first team squad this season – they will definitely strengthen our squad and are quality players.

And Eddie Howe says Fabian has trained well this week and will be in the squad for tomorrow.

In his press conference today Howe says he sees Livramento as a right back or on the right wing, although Howe admits he has played at left back – but long term the manager sees him as a right back to take over from the great Kieran Trippier further down the line.

Here’s Eddie Howe’s press conference in full, and I have a short update on my health situation after the video.

Personal Note – I had a PET scan on Tuesday and it shows a lot more cancer has spread in the bones than the previous (less accurate) cat scans had shown.

I met with Professor Wang at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill yesterday and I was given two choices – not to have any more treatments, the reason being that my health has been significantly weakened by the last two failed treatments since last November – radium 223 and a second chemotherapy.

My lungs have been scarred and my heart is deteriorating with the stress of the treatments.

Professor Wang would allow me to have the PSMA treatment, but I wouldn’t be strong enough to have any more treatments after that, and that treatment would need to start within weeks.

So that’s the situation right now – I think I will gibe the PSMA treatment my best shot.

🙂

Finally, I was really shocked to hear last week that Barry Sweeney, who tragically lost his son Liam in the MH17 crash in 2014, while on his way to Australia to support Newcastle during that summer.

Liam was one of two Newcastle supporters killed when the aircraft was shot down.

Barry Sweeney was only diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just six weeks ago and has since passed away.

Pancreatic cancer is an unforgiving disease and we send our best wishes to his family for this second terrible tragedy in their lives.

Rest In Peace Barry Sweeney – you are loved by many as a dedicated Newcastle fan.

I know I am going to beat TDS when we play. As I warned him before he lacks principals in FPL. GW1 when we play Villa and he’s got Watkins up front and no NUFC players!! The complete antithesis of how I play.

RULE 1: never bet against the Toon.

From a real football perspective though De Bruynes absence may assist NUFC in the next game.

Burnley were top of the Premier League “as it stands” table for 3 minutes, now they’re bottom.

Wow, think Kavin Philips is not doing great at Man City. Pep plays Kovacic instead…….Was so happy Newcastle didn’t went for him.

Just watched Episode 1 and the only thing that really bugged me about it was knowing we lost the Caraboao cup final after all of the euphoria of getting to the final.
Great watch for all of that though!

    EGB,
It was great. Amanda came across very well and really has EH’s back which is good to see.

The good thing about getting the final out of the way in Episode 1 is it basically all upwards from there.

Anyway we should avoid spoilers for those who cant watch yet.

Good on you, Ed. Keep on as long as you can. As you say, there is a quiet assurance about Eddie.

We have the toughest start, but there are no CL games until late September, so we can give it our best.

With 5 subs allowed we can attack games with increased intensity, if it’s possible!

I gave up catching up on the blog. Predictable shite. I can’t see the argument about the nufc tax. Yes there is probably a PSG tax too, but logically clubs think we are loaded, and try it on accordingly, hence the nufc tax. That’s not me feeling victimised, it’s just logic.

Nice to see ASM contributing to a goal tonight. He dribbled from his own half diagonally across the pitch to pass to Mahrez who lays it on for Firmino: https://twitter.com/goal/status/1690066881820938240?s=61&t=oE9r0YZuqCwo-geMmhvYtQ
