Eddie Howe’s Press Conference For The Aston Villa Game – He Seems Quietly Confident

Here is Eddie Howe’s press conference for our first Premier League game of the season at home to Aston Villa tomorrow afternoon at home with a 5:30pm kickoff.

Eddie comes across as open as he answers each question in his methodical way, and he’s just one impressive individual who is so good at his job of being a football manager.

Howe admits that he rarely goes into the Newcastle City Center and spends most of his time at the training ground and then at home.

Since he is a family man with a wife and three boys that’s understandable – Eddie has his priorities right.

As far as the summer transfer window, we feel that if we can bring in another center-back as cover and competition for Fabian Scar, this will have been another excellent transfer window for Newcastle.

We have brought in Sandro Tonali (£52M), Harvey Barnes (£38M), and Tino Livramento (£35M) for a total of £125M for 3 players who will be part of the first team squad this season – they will definitely strengthen our squad and are quality players.

And Eddie Howe says Fabian has trained well this week and will be in the squad for tomorrow.

In his press conference today Howe says he sees Livramento as a right back or on the right wing, although Howe admits he has played at left back – but long term the manager sees him as a right back to take over from the great Kieran Trippier further down the line.

Here’s Eddie Howe’s press conference in full, and I have a short update on my health situation after the video.

Personal Note – I had a PET scan on Tuesday and it shows a lot more cancer has spread in the bones than the previous (less accurate) cat scans had shown.

I met with Professor Wang at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill yesterday and I was given two choices – not to have any more treatments, the reason being that my health has been significantly weakened by the last two failed treatments since last November – radium 223 and a second chemotherapy.

My lungs have been scarred and my heart is deteriorating with the stress of the treatments.

Professor Wang would allow me to have the PSMA treatment, but I wouldn’t be strong enough to have any more treatments after that, and that treatment would need to start within weeks.

So that’s the situation right now – I think I will gibe the PSMA treatment my best shot.

🙂

Finally, I was really shocked to hear last week that Barry Sweeney, who tragically lost his son Liam in the MH17 crash in 2014, while on his way to Australia to support Newcastle during that summer.

Liam was one of two Newcastle supporters killed when the aircraft was shot down.

Barry Sweeney was only diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just six weeks ago and has since passed away.

Pancreatic cancer is an unforgiving disease and we send our best wishes to his family for this second terrible tragedy in their lives.

Rest In Peace Barry Sweeney – you are loved by many as a dedicated Newcastle fan.

Really impressive support for Luton ahead of their first match against Brighton.

Brighton away is almost as bad as Man City at home.

Damn that cash rich country of Chelsea & Kensington, buying up players from under the noses of other clubs and letting their own people perish in impoverished tower blocks.

    clinath@ed,
Last season, Saka after an early assist got taken off injured, his replacement, Rhys Nelson absolutely tore Forest apart on the left with two goals and an assist in his 70 minutes on the pitch, that would have and should have been Saka. Just saying……

I had a nightmare earlier in the week that Villa beat us 5-1 after we went a goal up.

Seriously, I’ve been uneasy about the game ever since.

I just hope we go 2-0 up so that I can then rest easy and enjoy the game.

    Great story from Luton.

I hear Sunlun are planning something similar and stockpiling paint for their reintroduction to the PL.

One tester pot a year should just about do it.

Finally matchday!! PL and CL football this year makes it one of the most exciting seasons for decades. Cant wait!

Seems like many pundits and fans are underestimating us. Here is why I think we will manage top 4 once again:
-we have one of the best coaching staffs in the league
-we have a great squad of players with a lot of quality on the bench, hence rotation will not be a problem
-our players seems to only Get better an better under this regime
-cant remember the last time we had more promising youngsters
-the togetherness and spirit in the squad is second to none
-we had one of the best defences last year and our defence will be even more drilled now
-not many teams in the world can match our midfield and attack. Pure class and a lot of versaitile players

We’re gonna win today at our fortress against a strong Villa side with a few important injuries

    2-0, HWTL!!!

Lochinver if willock was fit he would be in midfield with Joelinton left wing. Eddie could still do that and play Tonali in midfield but I wouldn’t as Villa is a difficult team and we need the known balance in midfield we have with long Bruno joelinton. Wilson always scores opening day and is our top scorer no brained he starts. Schar likely get customary head injury or hamstring tweak and lascelles will come on around 10 to 20 minute mark.

Heard it here first. Shake ya booty and hope to live 😀

Taco He messed mine as well with De Bruyne injured I’ve also lost my back up keeper Fraser Foster – he’s also out injured! So I’ll have to dip into the “Transfer kitty” already!

On the plus side Haarland came up trumps for me but he did the same for the opposition!

    Happy match day all,

That was some wait but it’s finally here. I’m not going to even attempt what team Eddie starts with, however if I was to really have a pop I’d say all the new signings start on the bench today. Who knows apart from Eddie and his team? Whatever team goes out there will be right up for this game and what better way to kick start our season than a Saturday evening kick off at the cathedral on the hill under the floodlights.

We have a score to settle with Villa and I think we will really put them to the sword. 3-1 or 4-1 to the toon.
