Newcastle United 5 Aston Villa 1 – NBC Video Highlights – Plus Howe’s NBC Post-Match Interview

Here are the video highlights from NBC Sports of our 5-1 beating of Aston Villa this afternoon in our first league game of the season.

An (another) incredible performance from Eddie Howe’s side and we could be even better than last season, but of course, we have a lot more games to play this season with the Champions League – and we mustn’t get carried away.

Well, not too much, anyway.

🙂

But the result and performance in our first game of the season could hardly have been better.

We wonder what Sandro Tonali will be thinking tonight – he put in a world-class performance today, scored after 6 minutes, and it just how good our recruitment team is – led by Sporting Director Dan Ashworth.

Newcastle are in a good place right now – amnd it’s likelyto get better too – hope so.

Here are the highlights (you can put it on full screen by clicking at the bottom right corner after you hit the link) that will have the City Center of Newcastle buzzing all next week.

🙂

Here is Eddie Howe’s interview with NBC Sports after the game.

Eddie got the team selection spot on from the start then the substitutions as well.

BDB looked like he slowed down towards the end of the match, maybe cramping so hope it’s not an injury. Might see Target against City.

    @Taco

It’s interesting they mention a few missed chances they had totally forgetting we could easily have scored another 4 or 5 goals

Now because we have goal threat from all sides of the pitch it will be harder for teams who park the bus but teams who play an open game like Villa did could be in trouble!!

TTT, from previous thread. Villa fan comments are funny. To think one or two players missing, or one or two chances missed, is why they lost is naive. We missed chances too and could have started a number of different players and won. The squad mentality is why we won. This club, and the fans (most of the time) is so United! 🙂

Shameless repost since a bus came,

    I can’t resist…an amuse-bouche….

“Big steaming pile of sh*t. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for that cowardly performance”

“Media w*nkfest will all be about Newcastle, but if Watkins and Cash put those easy chances away then it’s a different result even if we were off it today. Season doesn’t end after one game , but Bailey and Cash need replacing and Pau doesn’t look like he has the pace to play this high line unless maybe it’s a back 3. Martinez and Diaby the only bright sparks , he looks like he will score double figures . Hopefully we still have a trick up our sleeve for the rest of the window. Let’s hope Mings isn’t out for too long , defence looks lost without him”

“Well played Newcastle, they were ready, we weren’t. **** the excuses. Not good enough. We will still do well this year, but this has turned into a pathetic performance. **** off!”

“Harvey Barnes isn’t good enough for Villa I heard.”

“Why do we have to do this in the first game of every season. That’s 3 years in a row now. Diabolical. Also, this is exactly why i wasnt keen on all this talk of “top 4, top 6? etc, we had that under Gerrard and look how that turned out, i would rather we did our talking on the pitch, we do too much of it off the pitch i reckon.”

“We have a lot to address. That was embarrassing.”

“Disappointing to see that Luton have a goal difference advantage in the relegation battle.”

“We gave it our best and very unlucky. Can’t compete with newcastle guys even though we beat them last season”

“Haven’t been this depressed and worried about Villa for a long time. Next two games very winnable but mentally it’s a long way back from 5-1. **** me.”

“As bad as it gets really. They smacked us about from start to finish, they’re a very good side.

Going forward we’ll be fine but a Villa defence without Mings is a nightmare. We’ve got a problem if we can’t sort that out.”

“At least we’ll be first on match of the day”

“Absolute f***ing shit show. I’m proper angry at that. Folk will say Newcastle are a great side and that’s true enough, but if we want to get to where we want to be they are direct competitors. I don’t expect us to beat them, but we need to go toe to toe with them, and that was an utter thrashing. Players looked half arsed, well they can all f*** off. Get f***ed Villa.”

I only got up to page 3 of 11 too!

I’ve no doubt villa will be alright this season. Emery is a good coach. And the more time he spends with his squad the better they will get.

But Eddie showed his quality both today and in preseason. He’s got the squad tuned to 500bhp. For instance, he’s got Jacob Murphy looking calm on the ball, which would have seemed like an impossible task after his first season with us. The way he delayed his through ball for Barnes’ goal was brilliant, he also selected the perfect trajectory and weight on that pass.

Enjoyed reading the Villa fans comments on the previous, i guess all clubs have a minority of fans who kick the toys out of the pram after one negative result mate!!! A hero one day and a villain the next.

I think I said previously with our signings we’d be about 20% better than last season..
Which would put us around 3rd..

    Magic,
Exactly mate. It is important to back your team through thick and thin in general. One loss is not the end of the world, despite many people think it is these days.

On the other hand side – to be hammered like Villa were today can be sobering.

    🙂

Luton could do with some premierleague ready reinforcements. I can recommend Hayden, Hendrick and Fraser.
