In front of a sold-out St. James’ Park this afternoon, Newcastle put in a great performance, particularly in the second half when we seemed just too fit and determined for this talented Aston Villa side.
Our goals came from Tonali (6 minutes), an Isak brace (16 minutes, 58 minutes), Wilson (77 minutes), and Barnes (90+1 minutes) on his Newcastle competitive debut.
Diaby (11 minutes) scored for Villa to equalize early in the game.
New signing Sandro Tonali looked world-class and he took just 6 minutes to get his first goal for the Tyneside club, with an opportunist effort from aN excellent cross from Anthony Gordon.
This Italian International is going to be world-class for us and we now seem so strong in central midfield – the engine room for Newcastle.
Here is Sandro’s first goal for the club this l;ad could quickly become a Newcastle legend along with some players we have in the squad.
And minutes later Diaby equalizes on his competitive debut for Villa.
Eddie Howe will have to be pleased with this result and display, but the head coach will keep his feet on the ground – as usual.
Our next game is at Manchester City next Saturday afternoon (3:00pm KO), the hardest game in the PL over the last several years.

Comments are always welcome – especially after this terrific performance from our boys.

Comment #5When Barnes runs on to a ball he looks like he is going to score.
Not sure we have had that from wingers for a long time. Miggy has been brill dont get me wrong but you are 50/50 when he runs on to it.

I reckon we have a load of goals in our team this season, I actually said that several days ago.
Isak to be our TGS but we have at least five or more who will get double figures.

Comment #12So many highlights and standout moments in that match, one in particular i loved was that exquisite ball from Jacob Murphy to send Harvey Barnes through on goal, i honestly didn`t think Murphy had that in his locker HWTL.

Comment #16Away it’s harder, but I can see us doing that a lot at home this season. Great 11, great bench, great support, just non stop.
Isak, Tonali, Bruno, Trippier, Botman, Pope, Gordon, Barnes, Livramento, Burn, added to Wilson, Almiron, Murphy, Joelinton, Longstaff, Willock and Schar, with Anderson and Miley coming through, coached by Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall, in that atmosphere, bloody hell, you wouldn’t be dead for quids.

Comment #22Anyone got the stats from Rice vs Forest? Be interesting to see what prem proven gets you vs weaker opposition than Tonali faced in his debut.
I’ll bet Bruno’s stats were even better playing in the same role as Rice today.
If we can pull apart a well drilled Villa like we did I can see us going unbeaten at home this season. If we can keep away form to a similar level then we end up on more points.

Ref was excellent? Where was his consistency? Villa were constantly at the ref complaining, I saw no bookings. Bruno waving a card was deserved, but Botman got done after Martinez. Not one Villa booking for dissent that I saw all game yet they were at it for 100+ minutes.

They are saying Buendia injury messed with their prep for the match, and the Ming’s injury finished them off.
Fairly sure I called it that way earlier too 🙂
Too easy for them to admit we were better and battered them.

His archery celebration seems to be missing something. Does he actually release the arrow?
But, his game, top notch. Gordon was excellent but Barnes was even better, if that makes sense.
But, really, the whole team performed. Bruno was our “worst” player and he had a canny game.

Comment #31I haven’t caught up yet but what can I say. Wow, wow and a further wow. Tonali and Barnes quite super on debut, everyone else also superb. A couple of defensive lapses but for me that was a statement victory. I suspect it will be the first of many.

” We all knew this was going to happen eventually for Newcastle.
But even this looks like a giant leap forward, just from last season.

‘ Moving on up ‘
They certainly are! ”

It that’s true re. Buendia’s injury then it puts Emeries claim to be a good manager in a little doubt.
Wouldn’t happen under Eddie.
