How Will Newcastle Fare At Manchester City – Can We Get Our First League Win There In 23 Years?

The hardest fixture in the Premier League is a trip to meet Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

And after Manchester City’s triple last season, they won the Premier League – they have won five of the last six PLs, the FA Cup, and the Champions League – they are undoubtedly right now the best team in the world.

So it will be a tough trip for our lads tomorrow when we will kick off the game at 8:00pm.

Here are some facts from the BBC on our record at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City have lost just one of their last 31 Premier League games against Newcastle (W25 D5), going down 2-1 at St. James’ Park in January 2019.

Newcastle have never won in 18 Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium (D2 L16), with their last away league win against Man City at Maine Road in September 2000.

It’s the most any team has played at a specific venue without ever winning in Premier League history.

So what better way to motivate the boys than for Eddie Howe to point this stat out.

Newcastle are in form and we are determined to show the rest of the Premier League we are a team to be reckoned with – right now.

    Eddie Howe on Alex Isak:

“I think he’s coped with the move really well, especially when you consider he had an injury early on which was a hugely frustrating period for him. Sometimes the price tag can weigh heavy but I don’t get that feeling with Alex – he’s taken it all in his stride.

He’s performing really well, and he has done through pre-season so I’m hopeful he’ll have a great season.”

    Eddie Howe on injuries:

“I don’t think we have anyone returning from injury but the majority of the squad are in a good place.”

Eddie Howe on Jurgen Klopp’s recent comments on #NUFC:

“I think the (technical area) rules do impact us slightly more than other teams just because of the way we work historically. I thought we dovetailed quite well last week — it wasn’t too bad. The design from us isn’t to annoy people, it’s just to win.”

Mund…No matter what he’s asked, Eddie always has a calm and classy answer. Couldn’t be more impressed with him as manager and he’s showing up so many others, on so many different levels.

Manager who has won a trophy with a national team (and could win B2B trophies as of tomorrow afternoon) > Manager who bottled a final, and who’s only experience prior to that was effectively ruining boro.

The manager in charge of the women’s team is better than the manager of the men’s team, gender/sex aside.

It’ll never happen, which I pointed out yesterday – because (older?) people will lose their tiny minds over it, and I don’t think high level male players are ready to take instructions from a woman.

But based on credentials, one manager stands out above the other, and it isn’t the bloke (despite his waxa waistcoats).

He is fantastic isn’t he mate

Not only do I feel lucky and humble for what we have with the new owners, I also feel so lucky to have Eddie Howe at the helm. Honestly the man can walk on water for me as he is simply brilliant. I completely believe he is the best manager in the league and one of the best in the world. That has to be proven for others but that’s how I feel.

Like you say I love the professionalism from him and so calm and respectful in his answers. We have a true gent at the helm but one who is so so talented.

I still see pundits saying he will be replaced in the long run but they have no idea that Eddie will conquer all

Genuinely think we can get a win tomorrow. Man City haven’t looked their usual imposing self against Sevilla the other night, or in their opening game against Burnley.

It’s a great time to play them at their place. They aren’t up to speed yet with momentum on their side, few injuries and we’re riding high after an amazing win. Get stuck into them, keep the intensity going and we should create a good number of chances. Also think our midfield should edge theirs.

Isak has that air of Ibra about him without the outward wall of arrogance. He knows how good he is, and doesn’t worry about anything else other than playing the game.

I never get the impression he’s trying to impress anyone, he just plays the game and he’s really, really good at it.

Newcastle have agreed a fee with Chelsea for Lewis Hall
    £28m + £7m in performance related add-ons
The deal is a loan with an obligation to buy (deferred payment due to FFP restrictions).
Hall will be in the North East for a medical later today #NUFC

    Mund,

You can always rely on Keith Downie! He never says owt until it’s real. Now I will get excited!

You have to think if we’re doing loan first that he’s going to be getting game time, which makes me wonder what the plan is for the rest of defence. I can’t see Burn being dropped and moved to back up LCB, so where does that leave Targett? It’ll be a shame if he goes as he’s never put a foot wrong, and got shafted by injuries last season.

TDS……I think we agree that this discussion is totally unnecessary at this moment in time which was my main point ….
Why can’t the women’s team manager just be respected and congratulated for the wonderful achievement of guiding the girls to a first ever final which hopefully we win ….It’s totally inappropriate to start linking her to the men’s game right now and I’m sure she would agree ..
She needs to focus on her current role and not getting embroiled in a discussion about the men’s game ….

Man City didn’t look great against Sevilla. They are going to miss Gundogan and Mahrez. Haaland will suffer this season. They are not going to play a promoted, gung-ho side like Burnley every week.

3 points from the next two games doesn’t seem a stretch.

If Man City win… it will be by slim margins.

Liverpool looked one-dimensional against Chelsea. It looks like Liverpool are going to squander possession this season to play counter-attacking football. And against Chelsea, it was give the ball to Salah every time. Even Chelsea’s stitched together team figured out Liverpool’s singular game plan in the 2nd half.

Tino and Lewis will turn out to be the best fullback pairing in Toon history.
    Popey is the best keeper.
Pearce has tipped us to win the league. We are not favourites but 16 to 1 is a steal.
This team is our best ever.
How many from 96/97 get in this team?
For me only Albert Shearer and Ginola for Miggy.
The problem is the other teams are much better.
With luck Pearce is right we can win it. We need a fast centre back . Also I hope we do not focus too much CL. If we focus on league we can win it

    Pug,

Did you have them sedate you or did you think you could handle the spray only to realise what a terrible mistake you’d made? I’ve had the camera down a few times, the first time I thought I’d be OK – traumatising. Second I was sedated but it didn’t kick in until they’d already started – less traumatising.

    Glad everything was OK though.

Which is worse, the stairs at SJP or reaching the toilets at Weatherspoons?

You should invest in a radar key for downstairs toilets at Wetherspoons! Well worth spending a few pennies on eBay – Some of the stairs at their locations can be very cruel.

Regarding women managing men’s teams, my view is there’s no point in crying over milk that could hypothetically spill otherwise we might as well sit around discussing and being outraged whether or not hamsters should be allowed to play for England. Which I’m all for providing they’re born here.

I think we will see a much improved Man City tomorrow. They will raise their game against us because Pep knows, this season we will be their biggest rivals.

If no CB signing, perhaps Livramento can offer additional cover at RCB? He can play there according to Transfermarkt.

Backup options of Burn, Lascelles, Livramento, Dummett, Murphy and perhaps Krafth?
