The following policies should be taken into consideration before commenting:
I had a PET (PSMA) scan on Tuesday 8th August and it shows a lot more cancer has spread through the bones than the previous (less accurate) cat scans had shown.
The PET scan has only been available for just over a year here in the US and gives much more accuracy on where the prostate cancer cells have spread.
I met with Professor Wang at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill yesterday and I was given two choices of treatment.
The first was not to have any more treatments, the reason being that my health has been significantly weakened by the last two failed treatments since last November – they were radium 223 and a second chemotherapy.
My lungs have been scarred and my heart is deteriorating with the stress of the treatments.
Professor Wang would allow me to have the newly approved FDA PSMA treatment, but I wouldn’t be strong enough to have any more treatments after that, and that treatment would need to start within weeks.
So that’s the situation for right now – I am leaning towards giving the PSMA treatment my best shot.
Again, many thanks for all your support on this through the years.
It is as it is - and (yet) another challenge in life.
I am at peace with the situation.

It may be an extreme but it does prove the point. Lot’s of money, people’s livelihoods etc in top level football are all at the mercy of someone who is arrogant and bent enough to deem that they are personally above the law and who is so unprofessional to let friendship get in the way of making the right call.
If you can’t trust officials to do the right thing, no matter what, they have no business being in those positions.
It says a lot about you that you seem to get off trying to go against public opinion and obviously suffer from a massive superiority complex where us lesser mortals’ opinions don’t mean anything to you and are not respected in any way.

Comment #83Rotonda – eh??? I’ve got a massive superiority complex yet you’re the one resorting to insults and dismissing my opinion??
No, I don’t trust officials to do the right thing no matter what as I live in the real world and that’s an impossible reality. I do expect there to be accountability for mistakes though and I think he should receive a length ban from refereeing after admitting this. Might not have any effect whatsoever though as he’s already retired from refereeing I believe but probably nothing else that can be done.

Comment #84He literally said he has respect for Mike Dean because he admitted a mistake…
It wasn’t a mistake, it wasn’t something that was overlooked or not clear and obvious, it wasn’t even done because of incompetence. The decision was made solely based on the fact he didn’t want to give his friend anymore grief…
How can anyone respect that in the rules of the game?
The fact many on here have said this happens over and over and the same lad calls us all out as conspiracy theorists but now one ref admits he hasn’t followed the rules of the game and now he respects them…
Picks and chooses to be confrontational because he has nothing better to do

Comment #85I think the newer refs don’t have the in built prejudices that Mason, Dean, and Marriner have. The new refs having had time for them to build up the old mates network yet.
I do fear for Howard Plebb influence though because is definitely in the old boys network.
He found it funny that he contributed to our relegation in 2009.

Comment #87Dean also stated that he wasn’t happy with VAR intervention. He doesn’t seem to realise that it is there as a tool to help referees arrive at the correct outcome.

Comment #89Novo – I agree with that comment about newer refs. I’ve no doubt there was more corruption in the past but the modern world is more strict on that sort of thing, not to mention everything being more visible in the form of things like camera phones and social media. Can’t get away with as much these days.
I think it’s also different that most clubs have powerful and influential people attached to them now so it’s not like there are a few clubs at the top who are connected and have powerful owners but plenty of others who aren’t.

Comment #90There are many layers to corruption. Dean has admitted refs were reluctant to give decisions because of the risk of being removed from games.
This will impact on their income.
Juventus were found to be exerting pressure on refs. Ferguson did this to great effect aided and abetted his media allies.
The authorities have washed their hands of this for too long. Bans will be the only effective way of preventing this continuing.
Refs will make mistakes, fine, everyone can accept that however the decisions should not be influenced because of fear or they may be black balled.

Comment #91Enjoyed episode 3. Great to re-live the Disunited and Spurs wins (not that I haven’t re-watched that opening 21 minutes at least 21 times since.
The biggest spoiler I can’t believe hasn’t been mentioned….Gordon sleeps with 1 (thin) pillow and is on a 1 man mission to convert the other players.

Comment #92Novo – those examples aren’t corruption though. Incompetence perhaps but not corruption.
One issue they’ve got is that it’s bloody hard to get new refs into the game due to the abuse the existing refs get. Who the hell wants to be a referee anyway?? So we’re sometimes stuck with a lower quality than we should have.
I don’t have the answers but I sure as hell know it’s not simple to resolve…

Fence sitters are the absolute epitome of people that make any kinda claim to being “awake”, mate!
They are the one’s that erplore, Abhore and shun change in any and every single form…as they perceive it as a possibility of “losing out” or “giving up” some piece of entitlement or privilege…
The antithesis of fairness, compassion and human nature.
A detestable nadir!

Comment #95ottowa…I have heard 1 pillow is the way, but I’m a 3 pillow person. 2 to use as actual pillows and another for fighting, hugging and throwing to the other side of the room, mood/dream/nightmare dependent.
Not sure how I’d get on with memory foam pillows. Have a good memory foam mattress though.
Do you think we’ll get away with this as being footy related? HWTL! 🙂

It is the lunch that I am planning that will make the key difference on Sunday. Homemade tomato soup with notes of fresh basil, fresh green chillis (both from my back garden) a hint of dried oregano, and a tad of Worcestershire sauce. Then seasoned to taste.
Sourdough being delivered on Saturday (I need to learn to bake)

Comment #107How does one say it’s not corruption with a definite tone…?
How the foot would he know?
How many examples do bloggers have to give of events across world football to prove there is and has been corruption in the game? How many charges against clubs, players and refs have to happen for one to believe it’s not incompetence but corruption?

Comment #108Hibbit…Ha ha, I don’t think this one was aimed at me, although I did nearly pipe up with an “ouch” 🙂
I agree that a stand needs to be taken to bring change. My view is that I don’t think everything needs a strong stance and if I don’t have one, I don’t feel compelled to make one up to meet some criteria.
Only a defense of fence sitting (at times), not the discussion at hand which I’m out of.

Comment #112Dean was stood down for 2 months after that mistake if I remember the article correctly. VAR clearly wasn’t the right job for him if he couldn’t handle correcting a colleague’s mistakes. Considering that’s exactly what the VAR’s job is.
