Vask – considering some of the outlandish proposals on here, I agree with you! A couple of people were pushing Schar to be moved up front last season!

It looks like Gordon has a more accurate and well weighted pass on him than Miggy. The ball for Isak was verging on the exquisite. He is a good one touch finisher too. Does have a bit of a selfish streak in him though. A couple of time when he has cut in there has been players in good positions but he has chosen to shoot for an unlikely goal but I think he is not exclusive in that trait.

I do agree that he has shown more in his performance than the players you mentioned.

Still, I’m itching for Anderson to get on the pitch and show us what he can do over a full 90+ in a competitive match.

Why play Schar there when Anderson is the best striker we’ve got.

    Don’t worry…

Vask, agree on Gordon, the lad can only get better anarl, very exciting prospect.
I mentioned Anderson yesterday, what does this lad have to do to get a start, that`s where i think Wor Eddie needs to be a bit more adventurous in his selections.
I would start EA against Brighton , see how he does.

At first I was questioning whether it would be a good idea to try him out as a starter away from home. Then I thought it might be better than the pressure of a packed St James’ Park.

Then I remembered that Anderson scored a brace in preseason against them not exactly the same as a competitive match but I would definitely give him a shot to show us what he can do.

    Vask,

An away from home start for the lad would be a good idea for the reason you mentioned, and hey, if he does struggle then bring him off, but i think he deserves a shot , he must be chomping at the bit

    WL totally.

I think he could perform the role that Willock did so well in last season. Combine with Joelinton on that left hand side, rotating inside and outside with Joel. To accommodate that it would be Miggy that would miss out and, like has been suggested, Gordon moved across to the right.

Vask – while I’d love to see Anderson really succeed with us, I am forever amused by the attitude from some fans that it’s better to experiment with someone totally unproven in the hope that they somehow surprise the managers and coaches to play better that the more experienced player they replace. The idea of ā€œit can’t be any worse can it?ā€ Yes…yes it can.

I didn’t scroll all the way back after the match but I did briefly see a few comments including one calling for Hall, Livramento, and Anderson to start the next game.

I’m hoping all 3 of those will be top players for us so hopefully their times will come.

Indeed TDs. The SchƤr to DM thing of years gone by used to perplex me.

I agree that the management/coaching team have all the information possible on their players. I do believe, however, that showing a bit of faith and trust in one of your younger players can help them kick on. I’m not sure if there is an individual stat to show how well a youngster will cope with being thrown in the deep end.
Whether or not throwing three youngsters in at the deep end at the same time is a sensible idea remains to be seen.

TDS, so when does someone who’s “unproven” get their chance? I think Anderson has shown pre season and his subs appearances that he’s got what it takes. If he’s training well then he deserves a start IMO. If not Brighton then soon. šŸ™‚

Plenty of games after the International break.

How is Anderson unproven? Most of his sub apperances have been positive and probably the best player in preseason. Not sure how much more he need to prove…….

Aye tend to agree, Anderson is very far from ‘unproven’ these days.

Always tends to do well off the bench, which he’s now done plenty of times, played well in cup games, best player of pre season which included prem teams and good european teams.

He’s about as proven as he can be until he gets a few starts in the league. That’s the only way he can prove himself anyway, as he’s proved himself in every other way so far.

Underbody weatherproofing? Crikey, undersealing, that’s a term I’ve not heard for yonks. Such treatment was offered as an extra when new cars were sold back in the sixties but not to the luxury brands that came treated.

I suppose if you’re stuck, there are bound to be vintage/ classic car owners clubs that’ll point you in the right direction.

Even resulting in him getting a Scotland call up. So until he does get a run of starts in the league, he can’t really prove himself much further.

I may be wrong but it’s like deja vous, I seem to remember you and TDS both agreeing that Miggy tries hard, but bench him bless his limited abilities. Same re Burn too.

Then they had cracking seasons so the argument kind of subsided.

Now it’s back. Because many, including the aforementioned, haven’t hit the ground running, I’ll be the first to admit.

Then again, this is arguably true for every single position.

    Isak? Check
    Pope? Check
    Botman? Semi check
    Char? Bruno? Joel?

    Etc.

We’re still figuring it out. No asphyxiating press. No clever set plays as in the beginning of last season. Playing with fear against the big boys.

No worries, we’ll figure it out.

    lesh,

I ask because my old Cougar`s sills were shot and wouldn`t of passed it`s next mot, tis why i sold it.
The Honda cr-v iv`e got only has 71k on the clock but it`s underside doesn`t look to clever so i need to take action now.
I would of thought there would of been garages that do that treatment but there aren`t many .
I will persevere in my search

WLToon, Waxoyl is still available for DIY and they now do power sprayers to make the job easier . Borrow a handy son or son in law if you have one. Alternatively I would try your local independent garages. Mind Honda’s aren’t the rust buckets they were so does it really need to be done?

I’ll hold my hands up if that’s the case, but I remember always defending Miggy so don’t think i’ve suggested benching him in the past few seasons?

Only reason I suggest it now is that we have a talented squad with good depth, so doesn’t hurt to try out something new and see the results. Worst case, Miggy is the best option so we go back to him out wide.

Agree we’re still figuring some stuff out and it’s not been the easiest start to the season fixtures wise, but of all the players to swap in and out to try and make a little change, think Miggy is the most obvious at the moment to see if more direct wingers like Barnes and Gordon or Murphy even make a positive change.

    AGM,
i would love to do the job myself mate but my back problems wouldn`t hold up to the job, as far as my son doing it, right , nice try haha.
i`m sure i will find a garage somewhere to do the job.
Honda`s are cracking motors with the cr-v 2nd generation having bomb proof engines that can run for 300k easily, i want the bodywork to hold up, unlike the Cougar which was basically a rust bucket.

We would have been better off buying a right winger rather than a left winger.
We have more options on the left. Barnes will score goals but he does not look for the pass when he cuts inside. He sees two white posts.
Apart from last season when Miggy danced the white fandango with Bruno ( now sussed by defences), Miggy averages 3 to 5 goals a season. great work rate and enjoys his footy but he has his limitations. Is he a player who should start in a title chasing team? (Hypothetical question coz we are not)

AGM – the simple answer is when Howe sees him as the best option to start. Only a certain number of places he could take too. Joelinton has been decent in the attacking midfield role, I see no justification for him starting ahead of Gordon or Barnes on the left either. Could he start instead of Miggy on the right? Only Howe could answer that question and surely Murphy would be next in line?

I’ll be delighted if Anderson breaks through and becomes a big player for us but he’s got to earn his place in the team and then keep it.

Some might say he should replace Bruno and Joelinton takes a more defensive role but that’s no guarantee of success either.

The only person’s opinion I truly trust on the matter is Howe’s. We’re all just spitting in the wind really. Not that I’ve got any problem with that.

Vask – there will be plenty of games this season so opportunities for the younger players to prove themselves. Just hoping that one of them does better than the incumbents doesn’t make it so. They have to earn the right to play like anyone else.

This is what I meant really, I find it funny when fans are calling for unproven players to start in the hope they do better. I do say that Anderson is unproven because he’s never had a run of games in the PL.
