The summer transfer window in the UK will end on Friday 1st September at 11:00 pm local time.
With Sven Botman likely out for a few weeks with an injury he picked up in that disastrous 2-1 home defeat last Sunday against a 10 man Liverpool side, Newcastle may yet be tempted to go into the market for a center-back.
Craig Hope had reported that the injury was not as bad as first thought, so maybe Newcastle will not be tempted, especially since it’s really a right footed center-back we need as cover for Fabian Schar.
? Understand early indications are that Sven Botman has avoided serious damage to his ankle after injury suffered on Sunday. More news awaited ahead of weekend but I’m told it’s not as bad as perhaps first feared #nufc
— Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) August 28, 2023
We would assume that Dan Burn, who often lacks pace at left back, will fill in for Sven and either Matt Targett or newly signed Lewis Hall will come in at left back, although it may be a bit early for Hall to start.
Here is the transfer table as we see it – not sure if I have missed anything.

Comment #8Have to reply to Lesh’s sarky comments from yesterday.
Still puzzling over why he felt the need to make them.
Anyway Lesh regarding my Man, who exactly do you mean. Is it the Lying tax dodging Multi millionaire masquerading as a Prime minister.
Or the pseudo working class titled leader of the Labour party.
Please clarify if you would.
As regards my newspaper, yes I do read The Telegraph but if you really think that I believe every thing that written in it then thanks a lot for giving me no credit for having any sense of discernment.
Any more than I would think that you would believe in everything that is written in The Morning Star.
Plus my missus really enjoys the crosswords in the DT as they are more of a challenge than your pseudo newspapers.

Comment #9I’m going to stick my neck out and say we need another striker.
What worries me is that with the CL matches that will mean more outings for Wilson and Izak and more chances of injuries.
We don’t want to enter the Christmas schedule with either or both in the treatment room.
Good to see Ed posing again !

I said the same a while ago as the big fear for me is that if Isak got any kind of significant injury then Wilson will not be able to play every game without breaking down himself. We do have Gordon and Big Joe as emergency options I suppose but that then just weakens us in other areas. Also we don’t have any good U21 option to play up front either.
I can’t see us buying a striker at this late stage though so I will just hope my fears don’t come true.
Right now I am just hoping we can get Hendrick and Hayden off the books before the window shuts. Ideally Manq and Dubs too, but not sure if EH sees Dubs as number 2 since he always names him above Karius whenever given the option.

Comment #12Vask – I think a lot of faith has been shown in Anderson by him being part of our first team squad this season and being given the opportunity to push for starts. The rest is up to him. Similarly, the money spent on the likes of Hall and Livramento shows faith in them too and an opportunity for them to nail down a starting place.
It’s up to them to prove they’re better than the starting players in their position(s) though. Of course they’re doing well in training and well when they play a few minutes but that doesn’t mean they should start yet. Obviously the players who start are also doing well in training and Howe believes they are a better option.
What I meant by cup games is that we’re going to have a lot of games this season and there will be injuries, suspensions, and rotation. The likes of Anderson will have opportunities and it’s down to him to take it when it comes around. If Anderson is keeping Joelinton or Miggy out of the team then that’s fantastic.

I would start EA ahead of Bruno, two reasons, firstly I think he is raring to go and more than capable, secondly I think Bruno would actually benefit from coming off the bench for a couple of games.
Don’t think that that is going to happen as Eddie has a lot of faith and hope in the Sandro/Bruno combination.
In fact it wouldn’t surprise me if the only (enforced) team changes are in the back line. with BDB moving inside and Targett at LB.

He’s spoiling for a ruck everyday and gets the lip on when there is bad press for ya commies and socialists.

Comment #17It might not be the end of the world if Botman is out for a wee bit!
It will certainly mean Burn goes in at CB which means we put Targett or Hall in for a run of games
For me I hope that suddenly becomes a bit of a light bulb moment where we look much better balanced as a side overall
Saying that its up to Targett if he gets in to make it count defend well concentrate and make good use of the ball in attacking areas to give us another dimension

Agreed. Howe only discovered that big Joe could play as a midfield enforcer when his hand was forced during the Norwich game a few years ago. Whilst I’d love to finish top 4 again this season, I think it will be much harder. I expect this season to be a transitional one where Eddie beds in the new players and experiments with different formations and personnel. The odd short term injury will allow Eddie to shuffle his pack without upsetting any egos. So we might be less consistent but will reap the benefits next season. So for me top 6 would be an excellent achievement, with a couple of good cup runs. If we’re lucky perhaps another final, and who knows…

Comment #22Always nice to see wor Dr Ed back in the room.
The Hayden loan to Luton breaking down is a shame. It’s possible Hayden is not prepared to drop a division and I don’t blame him. He is good enough for the EPL. He’s a reliable player.
We’ll probably see more of Anderson in the run of games after the Brighton game where he’ll have the opportunity to really push on hopefully.

Comment #23Lesh…….. Why do you hate folks so much that show any signs of being even slightly right of centre…… To be so obsessed with someone’s choice of newspaper and so ridiculously judgemental of them based on that choice makes you a very bigoted and dangerous individual….

To respond to two of your posts but it was you who referred to the expansion of London’s ULEZ as a money grab and that’s the language thar the likes of the Telegraph is using. By coincidence, the Tories are using the same language but they seem to have forgotten that Shapps had tried to get Khan to increase the ULEZ levy in 2020, to generate additional revenue.
Before anyone gets on their high horse about the Blog and politics, it wasn’t me that raised the subject.
Oh, and one more thing…… I’m surprised to see that the Morning Star’s still being published.

Ulez is fine in high congestion dirty air inner city areas, as it’s just the logical right thing to do.
I think it appears as a money grab when it’s rolled out in suburban boroughs where there’s no scientific or medical evidence to suggest it’s going to have an impact on already good quality air. It’s just not required in these areas.
And it doesn’t matter which party Kahn works for he’d still be an utter bellend 😆

Comment #34In politics it’s really quite simple.
You get what you vote for.
Whether that’s ulez, brexit, Scottish independence, whatever.
Trouble is, most of us aren’t clued up enough to vote for what’s best for us and the country.

Comment #39What forever astounds me about politics is why do people who are so far to the left (like Lesh) or so far to the right (like Tuff or Betty) think they are in the right when 90% of people are to the right/left of them? If you’re part of an extreme minority, maybe consider your stance?
I think you’re all bonkers whether looney left or nasty right.
I also think political discussions on ULEZ aren’t even slightly relevant to here as it really doesn’t affect most of us. Speaking as someone with a diesel car and I now can’t drive to Heathrow without paying £12.50 a day due to bloody ULEZ…
