The summer transfer window in the UK will end on Friday 1st September at 11:00 pm local time.
With Sven Botman likely out for a few weeks with an injury he picked up in that disastrous 2-1 home defeat last Sunday against a 10 man Liverpool side, Newcastle may yet be tempted to go into the market for a center-back.
Craig Hope had reported that the injury was not as bad as first thought, so maybe Newcastle will not be tempted, especially since it’s really a right footed center-back we need as cover for Fabian Schar.
? Understand early indications are that Sven Botman has avoided serious damage to his ankle after injury suffered on Sunday. More news awaited ahead of weekend but I’m told it’s not as bad as perhaps first feared #nufc

We would assume that Dan Burn, who often lacks pace at left back, will fill in for Sven and either Matt Targett or newly signed Lewis Hall will come in at left back, although it may be a bit early for Hall to start.
Here is the transfer table as we see it – not sure if I have missed anything.

Comment #44Betty – I didn’t call you “far right” as that has very different connotations but I’d say that you’re in the 10% of people furthest right from what I’ve seen you post, just as Lesh is in the 10% furthest left. Compared to seriously far right or far left, you guys are moderates but from where I’m sitting in the centre, you’ve both got some totally bonkers standpoints.
All power to you both, you probably cancel each other out…

Comment #47I tend to agree that a Schar-Burn combo against Brighton is terrifying. I’m not biggest Lascelles supporter, but if he’s healthy after his boxing match, I’d hope he starts. It was disappointing the hear that Hall isn’t at full fitness. It would be helpful to have someone that can contribute more than Burn in attack.
On the whole, we have a team filled with excellent players and someone in Eddie who will figure it out. I said before the season that while I expected a top-4 finish, I wouldn’t be disappointed and complain if it didn’t happen (just because we’re no longer heading into a season concerned about relegation).
I do think Brighton is an opportunity for Eddie to try a little squad rotation. Give Murphy an opportunity over Miggy. Give Anderson a chance from the start.

Comment #49I’m going to post about football, as I thought this was a football blog…
It isn’t going to happen, but I’d like to see Eddie fool De Zerbi and play a completely different formation and lineup. I’d like to see a back 5 with wing backs – play the new kids in the backs, Trippier RCB, Schar CB and BDB LCB. I agree that Bruno should have a sub appearance, just to see what happens (again, I can’t see any of this happening) Big Joe back as a CDM, sweeping up, but with the attacking wing-backs creating an additional attacking layer on the press. Then a narrow 3, Gordon on the left, Tonali as a 10 and I guess Miggy on the right, but he’s so wasteful at times. I’d consider Anderson on the right of the 3, as after the U21 Euro’s, we know Gordon can play through the middle, so all 3 could be interchangeable. I’d start Wilson as he’s a pain for teams who pass out of defence, then Isak on at half-time.
Just a thought, but if Pep and Klopp can suss our 433, then DZ can.

Interesting! Burn and Schar were awesome together with Targett and Krafth during that period where we were top 4 form for half a season
It might make us a little bit more secure by not playing as high a line giving us a bit more balance
Brighton will have us on the back foot for a good bit so it might be better to sit deeper and catch them on the counter

Comment #52Uncertain – agreed. But I think the clean air zones barely affect anyone so far as they didn’t affect normal cars last time I drove into one. And they have nothing to do with the London Mayor either…

Comment #53I think now that we’ve got CL we should adopt the mentality that we can stay there. For me yes I’ve been spoilt so early on on PIF’s ownership by achieving CL but if we can start to foster a winner’s mentality even at the highest level, ie where we are now, I really hope we can become regular CL participants and not view this as a one off.

Comment #54Another thing that we also have to take into account is we massively overachieved!
Lots of other players over the last 18 months or so have had the performances of their careers
Bruno, Burn, Schar, Joelinton, Longstaff, Murphy, Wilson, Almiron even Trippier wasn’t as good at Spurs as he was last season!
That’s a lot of players that need to be even better this season with the more games we have and sometimes there is just a lull other teams have also sussed some of our tactics out
Qualifying for europe again next season might end up being a really good season
I look at West Ham they overachieved had a bad season last time around but look a much better outfit now they have sold Rice and bought 4 quality players

Not sure they did suss out our 433. Especially against Livarpool we just didn’t take our chances, plus HB didn’t pass to CW and MA hit the post. On another day…..

Comment #57I have no beef with clean air zones, I was around in the 50s when we all had coal fires and smog.
I’d also love to see really clean rivers, again I remember the Tyne as an open sewer.
I’d also like to see Murphy starting on Saturday!

Comment #58It may sound simplistic and certainly won’t raise any tax revenue for anyone, but lining busy roads/streets with trees, cleans the air an absolute treat, and everywhere looks nicer too.
A scientific properly conducted experiment on this was carried out in Lancaster a number of years ago and the results were extremely positive.
The air quality and sound reduction inside houses that were “roadside” after the trees were planted compared to before was immense.
This was done on the A6, the main trunk road through the centre of Lancaster.
There are green solutions to green problems without taxing the population to the hilt. 🙂

Yeah mate, they don’t affect normal cars as far as I’m aware, yet!
We know what council’s are like and they’ve just lined themselves up for a future charge from normal car users. When Labour have secured the election the Labour councils will charge no doubt. Tories would do the same if roles were reversed. Murky politics, shenanigans!
But the USA politics is where it’s at, it’s like a TV show pal.
It’s just a shame when there’s a sneeze in America we tend to get a cold across the pond.

Agree on the 4-3-3 system. It wasn’t overcome, we just didn’t take our chances. I think it was probably overcome in the Citeh game though with Pep putting bodies in his midfield.
Just need to be more clinical I suppose. Curious to see at Brighton whether Eddie will change the starting 11 because of that or will just go again with them hyper-motivated. Bearing in mind the calibre of Citeh and Liverpool I’m now thinking he’ll go again with Miggy. No disrespect to Brighton.
They are rapid on the counter, Miggy might also be seen as the legs required as opposed to Murphy maybe or an experimental risky change there.
Was thinking AG might get an England call, very possible, fingers crossed for the lad.

Yeah I was reading a West Ham thing and a couple of their fans thought overall it might make them a better team without Rice as everything went through him but that meant that it slowed their play down a fair bit
The players they have bought look like they have made them more pacy and direct
I do wish we had looked to sign Alvarez before West Ham got him he would’ve been the DM we needed

Comment #65The only thing crazier would be Starmer getting in here, but I guess we’ll all have to batten down the hatches for that unless there’s a collective “awakening” of the electorate and we dump the sorry arses out of the 3 major parties and their “groomed for politics” idiots that currently occupy Westminster.

Had an issue with my new Ninja dual drawer airfryer pal, was blowing the socket ring circuit on fuse box!
Moisture getting in the socket, moved it onto fridge where there’s more space and airflow round it and seems to have cured the issue thankfully.

Comment #72CBob – I’ll say it until the day I drop dead but people constantly complaining about the politicians at the top when some of them don’t even vote is just ludicrous. The average person on the street can’t change the system by typing a few words online. Get involved with local politics and make some small changes. Sorry if that isn’t sexy enough to make some big changes but it doesn’t work that way.

I see the potential when folk on here suggest different players and formations.
I think it shows we now have the squad to be able to try different things. It’s a definite positive for sure.
Was thinking AG must show no evidence in training he can play on the right as we haven’t seen him there in games. I think Isak is the only one who can perform anywhere across the front 3, but it’s the old playing him and Wilson together scenario.
I remember reading an Everton article when Ancellotti was there and he thought AG would probably end up as a 10.
He doesn’t look out of place when he’s driving through the middle trying to open things up.
I can’t see wor Eddie deviating from 4-3-3, but I wouldn’t be against it if he was to try something different.

Are we being a bit biased?
I was thinking, he’s playing regularly and performing so should be in with a shout.
Probably the players already in the squad are also playing and performing so he’d struggle to usurp any of them. Should try him in a friendly though or against weak opposition, keep him hungry.
