Here is Eddie Howe’s press conference for our fourth league game of the season at Brighton tomorrow afternoon: we really need a win with a win and two defeats so far in the league this season.
And yesterday we were drawn in the same group as Borussia Dortmund, PSG, and AC Milan in the Champions League – every game will be very difficult.
But it does give us a chance to measure how close we are to the top teams in Europe at the moment.
Some great Eurpean nights ahead for our fans.

Comment #45PIF rumoured to be prepared to pay £200m to Liverpool for Salah (not a whisper of Sports Washing). That’s 2/3 of what they paid for us.
Theory Time…..
PIF, unable to pour unlimited funds into Newcastle, decide to change tack and decide to dismantle one of their rivals player by player.

200M for a nearly 32 year old. I’d snap their hands off. Gives them a serious warchest. I don’t see how that helps anyone but Livarpool. They already have Nunez, Diaz and Jota.

Comment #47Lesh – you trying to stir things up? I’m sure you know that clubs are seeded into pots for European competition so the clubs with a better track record in Europe in recent years get favourable draws. We’ll be delighted with that in future years when we move up the seedings.

Comment #52Disappointed we haven’t bought a quick mobile RCB tbh. Shar is fantastic but is sometimes not great getting round on the cover with his lack of pace and I can’t see him playing every game. Thought it may have been a priority position.
I guess SL can do the 6 role when selected but he’s not really a typical DM.
I think for RW we are OK, especially with the emergence of Murphy but Diaby would have been next level.

Comment #54Lesh – if we’ve just won the CL, how would you feel if a totally random draw puts us with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich in a group? How do neutral football fans feel knowing that 2 of those teams are going out?
Face it, most fans want to see the big boys get the the latter stages and have some big games. They don’t want to see the Austrian champions get smashed in the quarter finals by Barcelona.
You want to take your point further though? We finished in 4th place and we’re in the CHAMPIONS League but there are some champions of European leagues who aren’t in it.

SSN were yesterday claiming the Saudi team had offered Salah a salary of £1M PER WEEK.
I’m seriously hoping this is total nonsense.
European teams moan @ PL because we offer salaries of between £75 – 250K to players.
What they going to say about Saudis offering £200M. (Or more in the case of a Neymar or Mbappe) for the player and salaries of £1Million per week.
What I don’t understand about this and hopefully there’s a clever chap or 2 on here that can help me out. PIF are an investment company. They need to make a return on investment.
What is the return on spending a couple of billion on a bunch of aging football stars to pad out 4 of the teams in their league? Their total outlay for teams + players looks like being in excess of £5,000,000,000 or £5Billion if you prefer. I just don’t get it.
The Saudi pro league is never going to reach the standards of the French, German or Spanish leagues and come nowhere near the Italian or PL. The best they can hope for is something like the Turkish league and even then they are unlikely to get accepted into EUFA so won’t get CL entry. Dominating Asian football might be nice for them, but @ what price? They’ll never recoup – surely?

Comment #57Not long ago, I seem to remember
Bill’s said that his birthday was the 1st September
Have you forgotten or do you not care
That he’ll have his head in his hands in total despair
With no messages, cake, or even a card
But at least he has this from the Bensham Bard….
Bill’s son is back, it’s your birthday, Yay!
I hope you enjoyed being younger yesterday
Because now that you’re 70, that’s likely to be
The last 69 that you’ll ever see!

Comment #60I’m happy with the draw for champions league.
While we are there playing we could also be scouting some players for transfers.
Play the best in the world is another bench mark to see exactly where the team is and what we need to to improve on. Be it play style or players in certain positions.

@54
You’re justifying the Champions League’s seedings and thus ensuring that its top clubs, remain so and those clubs without history’s chances of winning it are lower.
Isn’t there a school of thought thar VAR etc favours the Prem’s so-called big six and thus maintain the status quo?

Comment #75Surely 200m for Salah is in breach of EPL rules that were put in place to stop us selling players above market value – Salah’s almost 32 ffs
On another note – think we did well on the travel front for ECL games, not just for the fans – nothing more than 3 or 4 hours travelling time for players rather travelling to istanbul etc… – will help that EH can be back in office thursday mornings ready to prepare for weekend game

Comment #78You think paying 200 million for 31 year old Salah is dismantling dippers?
Well if they paid 200 million for Bruno they could dismantle us as well.
Salah is desperate to go. Footballers are greedy and always follow the money, hardly ever the club unless it’s boyhood club.
Mercenaries. Does Salah want top flight footy and 300k a week or 2 million a week and a kick around?

Comment #79Lesh – next you’ll be saying that higher prize money for the top teams or bigger sponsorships is unfair. It’s a business, what do you actually expect? The Premier League has 4/5 qualifiers for the CL but other European leagues have 0/1. Are you saying we shouldn’t be in the CL because we finished 4th?
It’s a bit rich when fans complain about bigger/richer/more successful clubs than theirs getting preferential treatment yet they’re quite happy to get preferential treatment compared to other clubs.

Follow the club. The players suit themselves
