Here Is Eddie Howe’s Press Conference In Full For Brentford Test

Here is Eddie Howe’s Press Conference for tomorrow’s home game against Brentford.

It would be great if we could get back to our winning ways after three defeats in a row after beating Aston Villa 5-1 in our first home game of the season.

We have just 3 points in our 4 games so far this season – hope we can make it 6 points after tomorrow’s game.

It looks like Sven Botman could be available, bnut it is probably too early for Sandro Tonali to play and we would expect Sean Longstaff to get his first start of the season.

Howay The Lads!!

A draw against Milan will be the safest result to protect our travelling fans from pointy objects being thrust towards them and fiery things being launched at them as they leave the stadium. We beat them – carnage, they beat us – carnage.

Win vs Brentford, and draw against Milan – happy days for me.

Clearly Richard Masters and the EPL/FA brigade won’t allow this takeover to happen within 3 months , way too much to scrutinise and object to .
Not withstanding the at least 20points deduction heading Everton’s way for allegedly fiddling the covid books as reported in the press.

maybe a decision by late 2024 would seem fair, won’t it ?

Premier League Everton are set to have new owners after Farhad Moshiri agreed to sell his 94% stake in the club to American investment fund 777 Partners.

The takeover would bring to an end the tumultuous tenure of British-Iranian Moshiri, who first invested in 2016.

The sale is expected to be completed by the end of 2023, subject to Premier League, Football Association and Financial Conduct Authority approval.

    re the blue bindippers takeover.

Would you buy a club under investigation by the EPL under FFP rules when the case is being heard next month, or is the case already agreed (a fine), no points deductions (Reading FC got them earlier this week)?

And as the principal of 777 has been done for major cocaine trafficking in the past, how on earth can he be a fit and proper person?

    It smells sooooo much.

England striker Callum Wilson has signed a new contract with Newcastle United that runs until summer 2025.

The 31-year-old, whose previous deal would have expired in 2024, joined the Magpies from Bournemouth for about Ā£20m in September 2020.

Wilson has scored 40 goals in 79 league games for Newcastle, including 18 last season as the club finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League.

“I’ve been welcomed ever since I came through the door,” said Wilson.

“Now the club’s going in a fantastic direction and on a journey, so it’s nice to commit my future to being a part of that.

Afternoon all, First of all, good luck to Dr Ed, I fancy our chances tomorrow, think we,ll hit top form and win 3-0 against Brentford, Wilson (2) and Barnes to score and we will get a deserved draw in Milan next week. Positively, I think our season is about to turn and get back on track, as I said at the beginning of the season, runners up spot in the league for us……ps I havenā€™t started drinking yet, lol. Looking forward to my 2nd knee replacement in October (not) Enjoy the weekend folks, Cheers GWH

    Micky,

Aye it’s beyond iffy. If what Loch has said (they intentionally cooked the books to cover for Covid losses) then they could be in serious, serious trouble – if they avoid a points deduction for that then I can see absolute hell on – especially from any teams that have been relegated during or since they did the crime(s).

It could end up with Everton getting sued for loss of earnings from those clubs – which will just make things even worse. Why would any prospective buyer want anything to do with that?

My guess, the offer they’ve made is conditional depending on the outcome of the hearing. If they get a deduction then they would effectively be buying a championship club. Even dodgy companies like 777 wouldn’t be that stupid, I don’t believe.

Even if they don’t get the deduction and the sale goes through you only have to look at other clubs under the 777 banner to see how it’s likely to go for Everton….and it will be hilarious to witness.

I think we should be too good for Brentford tomorrow. Their main threat is the Cameroon lad Bryan Mbeumo. But I do not think he is that good as I have posted on here previously.

Need this win to get us back on track and to calm any panickers.

Iā€™ve done my Eddie bingo and hereā€™s my thinking behind it.

    Pope, no brainer
Tripps, because heā€™s effectively captain. (Personally Iā€™d play Livramento, but canā€™t see it happening)
Schar and Botman, no brainer when both fit.
Hall, because we have to start playing a natural LB sometime.
Longstaff, Bruno, Anderson. (Lobby for Tonali who has a strain, Anderson for Big Joe to get him fired up for Milan) Bruno keeps place as he seems to rediscovered his magic hat in Brazil.
Gordon – RW (for Miggy who got a knock) Wilson – CF, who is ā€œchamping at bitā€ and only ran around for 10mins for England, Isak played 2 x games. Barnes – LW.

    So line up is,

    Pope,
    Tripps, Schar, Botman, Hall
    Bruno, Longstaff, Anderson
    Gordon, Wilson, Barnes.

I worry about where and when Livramento is going to get a game, if Tripps remains fit and available.

I’d love to see Livramento get a lot of games this season, along with Hall. But Livramento especially I think is here to be Trippiers long term successor. Think he even mentioned learning from Tripps in his first interview after signing.

Probably get some cup games and sub appearances, but not be pushing for a starting place for another season, maybe 2.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Trippier play left back (as he did for England the other night) and Livramento right back tomorrow though. Think Livramento is pacier than Hall, so still keep the captain on the pitch but have the pacier option to deal with Brentfords fast counter players.

I think sticking with the defence that got us 4th is the best option until Livramento and Hall get minutes under their belt for us, and up to Howe levels of fitness.

This is assuming that Botman is indeed fit to start šŸ˜€

Adam, yeah that would work, but on a personal level, Iā€™d be pissed off if I was a natural LB and we played Tripps there.

Weā€™ve got Hall, Targett, BDB and Dummett for LB position!!

Dazzler, I agree that Eddie will almost certainly play Burn left back if Botman plays, but I want to see us progress, not stand still. Hall is the future @ LB so I want to see him playing there asap, not ā€œmaking doā€ with a converted centre back, however well heā€™s done.

Iā€™m playing Eddie bingo, more as a ā€œwhat Iā€™d like to seeā€ rather than what I think heā€™ll do.

Just means the 1 x point Iā€™ve got will have to suffice for the Season. šŸ˜€

    Bob,

The risk is that a player like Hall isn’t ready for that pressure just yet – He played a handful of games for Chelsea last season and looked good, but I think Howe is more likely to take his time with him and make sure he’s introduced organically.

I reckon in the next 6-12 months the left back spot is his with Burn reverting to back up CB. Livramento is a little different – I think he will be replacing Trippier by the end of this season. Trippier is already 33 so I can see him stepping back over the next year or so and Livramento and Ashby will be the main two RBs.

Unfortunately I am unable to provide a summary of views from Brentford fans for our upcoming game as they don’t have any views. The only thread they have is regarding what formation/team they should play against us and all posts only mention that, nothing about us or what they think the score will be, just a big discussion about whether they should play a 3-5-2 vs us or not.

    TTT,

    I found some snippets:

“Checking the form only played them about 15 times. Not beaten them in top flight. Not beaten them at away since 1934 in the league and only won about 3 times in total. Something’s got to change but is it now? there form is a little shaky.”

“Their form is shaky and theyā€™re away to Milan in the CL 3 days after they play us so could well be distracted. Itā€™s a good time to play them and I reckon weā€™ll get at least a point.”

“I think we can beat this lot but we need to have good shape at the back.”

“Keep the crowd quiet by not folding and conceding early and then catch them on the break as they overcommit forward.”

“This 100%. Newcastle coming into the game with three consecutive PL defeats. Need to keep it tight for as long as possible and then you will hear some of their fans getting on the players back. What we canā€™t do is concede early.”

“I have this suspicion, probably ill-founded – that Brentford have a tendency to lose games when the opposition are looking to arrest a bad run. The first quarter of the game is vital for us and we must avoid giving them anything which inspires them with any confidence. We have the players to do this before Neal comes on to score in front of the Gallowgate. I also hope that Jason Tindall gets in a touchline spat with Zanka – only one winner there.”

There was more arguments about whether the doormen/staff at the Union Rooms are rude scum or not šŸ˜€

The defence that got us 4th was with how we initially played. When the goals dried up, we changed things and started scoring again, but at the expense of conceding more regularly too.

I just think as much as I love Burn, Brentford are likely to set up to break with as much pace as possible against us. Having Livramento in the back 4 somewhere would give us a little bit extra security. Right back is his natural spot, Trippier played left back for England only a few days ago, so would make sense to move him there for Livramento.

Ultiamtely, I think it’ll be the same back 4. Just saying i’d be tempted to go for that this match, purely to try and nullify Brentford’s counters a bit better šŸ™‚

“They’ll come out of the traps at full pelt with the crowd behind them given this is their most effective tactic in unsettling teams up there.

As important as the team and tactics TF employs is our general reaction to all of this blood and thunder noise before and after KO.

Let’s not get undone by acting all surprised when it actually happens.

(just in case some snooping Mag gets upset by my analysis I’d like to add that this approach is enacted by a very good and well coached team).”

“I certainly think pragmatism over all-out attack is the way to go. Henryā€™s going to have his work cut out keeping Trippier under control.”

A bit more. It’s nice to see some fans actually acknowledge our strengths and not call us overrated or reference blood money and the like. I still hope we thump them though šŸ˜€

    Adam,

I think given our recent run I’d prefer the stability of Burn at LB and tell him to hang back and defend. I wouldn’t want to disrupt much on the right considering Miggy is already a doubt. Just my personal opinion mind you šŸ™‚
