Here Is Eddie Howe’s Press Conference In Full For Brentford Test

Here is Eddie Howe’s Press Conference for tomorrow’s home game against Brentford.

It would be great if we could get back to our winning ways after three defeats in a row after beating Aston Villa 5-1 in our first home game of the season.

We have just 3 points in our 4 games so far this season – hope we can make it 6 points after tomorrow’s game.

It looks like Sven Botman could be available, bnut it is probably too early for Sandro Tonali to play and we would expect Sean Longstaff to get his first start of the season.

Howay The Lads!!

Adamn, that was the issue, IMO….Wilson very clearly put his arm on Flekken’s left shoulder, as if to prevent him from rising to meet the ball. He tried to do it on the sly, but it was clear.

US broadcast just said “correctly ruled out for a foul on the keeper.”

on the second pen not given, didn’t burn have exactly given against him last season?

Adam – as I’ve said, I’d have to see it again to see what you’re saying. From every replay I’ve seen, it looked like a very soft foul to give and the keeper was basically weak.

Didn’t matter thankfully or there would be people on here up in arms that the ref/VAR had robbed us.

Ref did seem to make a few odd decisions though, not convinced that was a strong performance from him.

Definitely happy to get the 3 points….particularly with some big players being rested.

Credit to Bruno. He was better today.

Overall, the performance wasn’t without questions. We could have easily been down 2-0 early. It was still a rather disjointed performance. We’re lacking some free-flowing play. Important win, though.

    TDS,
I know I said the same a couple of weeks ago. Hall needs to be introduced very carefully. How and when you bring young lads into a side is key and needs careful consideration. Their price tag is irrelevant in the modern game.

The clamour for Hall to play is simply because Burn is not an attacking LB which ignores what he does do very well, and Targett hasn’t played much so some people now think he is rubbish.

I would also add that I think it is far, far easier to throw a young striker or winger into a game than it is with a defender for a variety of reasons.

Rotonda – we had a pen overturned against Arsenal last season for a similar reason. The ball was struck at an Arsenal defender and I think it hit his knee first before hitting his arm. The commentator today was saying the ball hit the defender’s head first and then the arm.

I didn’t know about that rule until someone pointed it out on here last season. Was convinced it was a pen but when someone mentioned that rule, it made sense why it was overruled.

A scrappy affair but it looked like we were more solid at the back 2nd half

Barnes and Gordon played well 2nd half

Lots of games will be like this lots of changes and opposition who are more than decent

Might find we have too much for AC who aren’t actually that good

Grrst win and a clean sheet! Well done boys! Second half was more like the Newcastle we got accustomed to seeing last season.

But we got a simulator penalty against us, ball hit the back og Burns head then into his arm which was over his head.

Taco – I agree. If we’re chasing a game or even trying to hold onto a lead and an attacking player is tiring, then it’s much easier to throw on a raw and/or newly signed attacker to try and mix it up a little. Much less chance that they’ll screw up and lead to a goal being conceded.

I think people forget how little experience Hall has of playing first team football too.

Continued to control the game into the second half and got what we deserved. Hopefully this kick starts our season.

2 shots on target, one of which a penalty.

Last season we were getting many more.

But what was needed today was three points and readiness for a scrap. Check on both counts.

No real MOM, but lots of effort.

Honourable mention, the whole back line when it’s a clean sheet. Bruno, Wilson, the two wingers.

Playmaker – I don’t remember that one mate but either there was some other factor involved or someone made a mistake.

Best player was Wilson. Held the ball up very well. Longstaff looked lacking game time. Should be stronger after that.

Ok, I am ok with the VAR decision btw, as long as it is consistant going forward

The second was never a pen, the first debatable but there’s no bloody consistency with them, another time and each could have been givenbor disallowed 😕
Gordon’s was a pen all day long.

Agreed I think we lose a bit of that with Isak as he doesn’t play that good with his back to goal yet although he can learn it

Wilson is a bit of a warrior though when he’s fit love the guy

    Strange scrappy game.

    – Our front 3 all individually played reasonably well, without really gelling.
    – I had Gordon as MOM, basically for his energy.
    – Burm is in the team because he’s a good no nonsense defender.
    – Still have to be convinced by Longstaff. I’m not buying the thought that we looked worse without him in the team. We won today, but I don’t think he made the difference. Just blocking a pass with an outstretched leg doesn’t work at the top level as the opposition regain the ball, recycle and press on.
    – Botman does make a difference.
    – Silly ill discipline in the extra time from Gordon, Wilson, and Bruno all gathering cards. The boss needs to have a word

Is it just me or has Klopp gone full on scouse now? His post match interview on Sky amused me….

    LFC cap.
    LFC trackie top.

I presume he was wearing trackie bottoms and huge, shiny white trainers to complete the ensemble.

Klopp to his personal shopper: Where is the balaclava?

    😀

I’d give my vote to Gordon if we had a MOM poll, never stopped scrapping and made the pen for Wilson.

Burn had a terrific game solid at the back and Yes he does support the attack contrary to many viewpoints on here.

Taking him off with ten minutes plus would have been a big mistake.
