Here are some interviews, including with Eddie Howe, and commentary on our 8-0 win at Sheffield United today.
Here is what Eddie Howe said, speaking to Sky Sports:
“I thought we were really good from the start and when the goals came I felt the confidence in the team returned.”
“The big thing for us was that we really wanted to score and we weren’t content with three and I want that mentality to run through the team.”
“We shared them around a bit today. There were important ones there for Alexander Isak to score and Sean Longstaff, for me he is a goal-scoring midfielder.”
“So some really important ones for the individuals.”
“It is a welcome return to form in that regard because we were so good defensively last season and we weren’t as watertight at the start of this one.”
“It is a welcome boost for us because we know we have top quality defenders.”
First of all, here is a video of Eddie Howe’s comments immediately after the game today:
And here is a video of Eddie Howe’s comments to NBC and also it includes an interview with a very happy Anthony Gordon – who seems to be getting better with every game he plays for Newcastle, after starring for the England U21 team in the European U21 Championships where he was voted the best player of the tournament.
And some decent comments on Newcastle from former Newcatsle striker Michael Owen.
Warning – this is a 23 minute video but the interviews are first up.

Comment #2Just checking in after my drive in to work. What a game. Glad to see the goals go around and a league record of 8 different scorers let alone the team records today. I am sure the lads will be smiling and in good spirits going into the cup game. If Pep truly does play his youngins then hopefully we can know off a competitive team straight away. HWTL!

Comment #11Yeah, I agree with Eddie Howe that Sean Longstaff is a goalscoring midfielder. He needs to convert more of the chances he creates for himself of course, that’s the flaw, but if he can, and he appears very capable of it, you really do have an elite midfielder on your hands. He adds the goals, then he is a complete player, and a huge huge asset.

Excellent – I had not realised the ladies won 9-0 (despite an NUFC player being sent off)
A good day all round.

Comment #16It’s probably L8 in England now, I was a little Ira8 at the start of the game, thank god for Gordon when he came on to initi8 the fight back. I didn’t anticip8 us scoring that many then the floodg8’s opened and we manage to opera8 and estim8 all things needed to oblivi8 and we didn’t indiscrimin8 on who scored the goals.
It was good to see Eddie demonstr8 how good he is and accommod8 the players he had and use subs if needing to not overcomplic8.

Comment #17So maybe it’s not just through black and white eyes.
Mrs Davas, who has less than zero interest in football, just said that it must be annoying for Newcastle fans as the commentators were saying they only won because Sheffield United were so poor.
She also said she could hardly stop herself from laughing as the commentary was so pathetic. 😀

Great to see Amanda Staveley joining the team for the celebration photo. Little things like that speak volumes about how the club is being run.

Longstaff is worth his weight in gold. He has things to work on but all players do.
The reality is that he is a local lad who is 100% committed to NUFC, no transfer move is better for him even if Real Madrid come calling (which they wont)
He is also a club trained player, which makes him even more valuable to NUFC.
If someone wants him they can start the bidding at £200m.

Comment #21Sheffield United had only been beaten by one goal before tonight, and they have already played city and Spurs.
They collapsed tonight but it is not a given that every team will go there and win.
Superb performance by us

Comment #22A fantastic result and I’m absolutely buzzing so this is probably going to sound negative but anybody think that Miggy was having an absolute shocker until he scored – every time he got the ball he lost it – no matter though as it didn’t affect the result.

Comment #27Yeah Taco, I’ve always believed in Sean, as I have Joel. They are my two favorite players, although Trippier is forcing his way in to, he’s just such a top notch player and pro. I like Barnes and Murphy too, and this kid Miley. You just see qualities in certain players I suppose, and not just ability wise, character, personality too, that strike a chord.

Comment #34I just love seeing the local lads, and I include Murphy in that category, perform well. The longer they can all stay with us on this journey the better. I get more from that than seeing a £60m player do well. Can’t think there are many other top teams with as much local talent in their team. Perhaps City.

A good squad comes down to far more that having 25 Galactico’s.
Trips has been absolutely key for us ever since he signed and he still is.
Having players like Longstaff, Burn and Anderson is key too. They live the dream now and when they don’t play they won’t throw their toys out of the pram.
I am not saying this because I have had a few beers or due to todays spectacular win. I say it because no squad can work without players like this. It is always a balancing act.
